861  Economy / Economics / Re: COVID is dead, "long live the new COVID". World economy get ready? on: December 07, 2023, 03:32:40 PM
It is not about any new pandemic or virus, but about the fact that years of crazy measures such as wearing masks and isolation and high levels of stress have led to the fact that people (especially children) have lost their natural defense against diseases to which they were otherwise resistant. Otherwise, it's not only happening in China, but everywhere in the world - the focus is only on China, considering that everything started from there, so most people assume that the next "world virus" will also come from there.

Benjamin Cowling, an epidemiologist at the University of Hong Kong, is not surprised by the wave of illness. “This is a typical ‘winter surge’ in acute respiratory infections,” he says. “It is happening slightly earlier this year, perhaps because of increased population susceptibility to respiratory infections resulting from three years of COVID measures.” The rebound in common respiratory diseases during the first winter after the loosening of pandemic measures — such as mask-wearing and travel restrictions — has been a familiar pattern in other countries. In November 2022, the number of people hospitalized with flu in the United States was the highest it had been for that time of year since 2010.
862  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The message remains consistent from January to December on: December 07, 2023, 02:44:58 PM
The consistent message throughout the year, from January to December, persists: Get your coins off exchanges.

To people who don't understand what Bitcoin is, it's pointless to repeat what's wrong and what's right - it's like saying something to a rock, completely meaningless. But I don't see what the problem is at all, if someone wants to entrust their property to someone else for safekeeping, let them do it.

He called out CZinance after his account, holding over fifteen thousand USD, was inexplicably deleted. Despite the assistance of an alleged CZinance support staff in restoring the account, the coins remained missing, and the account history vanished without a trace.
Again I say, safeguard your coins by removing them from exchanges. Do you ever trust that they will be safe there.

But sir, aren't the funds SAFU? If the big leader has $4.3 billion to pay for his freedom, how come he doesn't have $15k to help the poor bastard who just listened to him and kept his coins where the big leader advised him?

If you are wondering where to move your bitcoins to after taking them off exchanges, here is what Charles-Tim advises:

Hardware wallets like trezor and ledger nano are recommended...

Still advising people to use Ledger? Then I guess you agree that these same users should use the recovery feature and share their seed with Ledger and others to whom they will pay $9.99 every month for that "service"?
863  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WHY PEOPLE ARE NOT TAKING THEIR PRIVACY SERIOUSLY. on: December 07, 2023, 02:14:25 PM
What do you say? As of today, only El Salvador and the Central African Republic have bitcoin as legal tender. In the rest of the countries it has been regulated as a financial asset.I don't see how you can conclude anything about privacy from that, which is false.

Actually only El Salvador has Bitcoin declared as legal tender, CAR supposedly had it for a while and then they gave up on it, because who the hell cares about BTC when 90% of people in that country don't have access to the internet.

As for privacy when it comes to Bitcoin, I believe that most people are not even aware that there are services like mixer, and besides, I don't think most people really need it, because they invest in BTC exclusively for profit and have nothing to hide. Also, some still think that Bitcoin is actually a private online payment method and we can see that by the fact that many so-called hackers sooner or later end up behind bars.

Privacy is almost impossible to achieve these days anyway, especially in the online world - from the devices we use to the pages we visit and the software we use, everyone is spying on us in some way. Those with powerful surveillance tools can very likely find out anything they want about any individual anywhere in the world.

Please tell me, what are the regulations in your country that trigger this kind of thing?
Is the bitcointalk account too public?
I am very curious about this condition, they are great people.

Why do you conclude that someone leaves this forum because of some laws/regulations in the country where they live? These accounts are real people with real life problems, and most of them put their real life before what they do in the online world. I don't want to speculate at all about why someone left the forum, but I know several reasons for which I would do the same, although I hope that none of that will happen to me in my life.
865  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers on: December 06, 2023, 03:51:10 PM
Spain,Italy,Croatia and the newcomers Albania who are only here for the second time in the same group, what the f*ck UEFA,Italy should have not been in the Pot 4 as all social media is boiling or was boiling with posts good luck with the ones who will get Italy as a Pot 4 team. This is a group of hell for Albania and if they get one single point in here that would be a huge success and achievement for them, they are playing against World Champions or at a minimum a finalist in the World Cup meanwhile they don't have this experience, would be fun to watch these games.

I am not at all surprised by this outcome as far as the group looks, because you must know that the people from UEFA wanted to avoid Albania and Serbia, or Serbia and Croatia, being in the same group at all costs. Those would definitely be matches of the highest risk considering what happened in the Balkans 30+ years ago.

I personally like that Croatia will play Spain and Italy because it will be excellent duels and an opportunity for a rematch from the last European championship, when one of the most dramatic matches that I personally watched was played. I just hope that this time the Croatian players will not go to change their boots or to refresh themselves in the middle of the game, because the Spaniards certainly know how to punish that.

866  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A real salvation for traders! Flash Loan Arbitrage Bot - $40,000 in a day on: December 06, 2023, 03:21:47 PM
I understand that you have a product that you want to advertise, but you are obviously far from a professional when you promise as much as $40 000 a day, which would mean that anyone can become a millionaire in less than a month - and then why would you bother for some ridiculous fee that you charge for your service when you can get rich very easily with your magic bot?

Such trading bots can be of help to someone who knows how to trade, and for those who don't know how or are complete beginners, the result will only be a loss.

Where the mixers will promote their projects?

Is this forum the center of the internet universe? Of course not, which means that there are countless possibilities that mixers are already using, and now they will be additionally motivated to explore some new ones. As things have turned out, I would not only focus on currently banned services, but also on the fact that we can expect that in the future any service that does not have KYC and can in any way serve for illegal activities will be banned on this forum.

I have no doubt that someone will come up with the idea and make bitcointalk V2, of course in such a way that they will not have to be afraid of Big Brother and the consequences resulting from their actions.
868  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers Signatures : A challenge or Respect on: December 06, 2023, 02:38:00 PM
Why this new topic? Theymos already made everything crystal clear in his post on the mixer ban on the forum, anything campaign managers and their participants decide to do before the 31st of this month is their choice/decision, why are you concerned about it?

It is more than obvious to me why - he is not the only one trying to profit from this topic and get some merits. He (and everyone else) who have some doubts about questions concerning this topic could have asked those same questions in the main topic, but the irresistible desire to be OP is stronger from themselves.
869  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you deal with the exponential appreciation of Bitcoin? (for the oldest on on: December 06, 2023, 11:46:49 AM
@Don Pedro Dinero, when you look at things from an objective angle, you see that most people believe that the value that Bitcoin has at some point comes from the fact that the max supply is only 21 million and nothing more than that. Who cares anymore why Satoshi came up with the idea to invent Bitcoin, and it's certainly not for the reason "buy cheap, sell high", and therefore every transaction that goes in the direction of being caused by trading goods or services shows the true value that Bitcoin have.

If we continue in this direction, in the future Bitcoin will be a toy for the rich who will trade it through ETFs, and considering that they will have millions of BTC in their possession, they will be so powerful that they can influence miners and developers, and when you have them in your pocket, then it is very easy to change one line of code and add a few million new BTC to max supply.
870  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beware of Clipboard Virus! on: December 06, 2023, 11:21:15 AM
Only solution is to always memorize your address (the last part).
The only solution is the check the entire address. Address reuse is bad for privacy anyway, so memorizing the address doesn't make sense.

Exactly, because some clipboard malwares have gone a little further than simple address replacement - they already try to replace the original address by searching in their database for the one that most closely resembles the owner's address. I know I once read about it here on the forum, and I think hackers will become even more inventive, especially now that they are using AI.

When it comes to checking addresses, those who know the risks leave nothing to chance, right?

871  Other / Meta / Re: I have no more merit left to give! on: December 06, 2023, 11:02:44 AM
What do you think it would be like if everyone who doesn't have sMerits opens a topic like this? The fact that you don't have sMerits should be exclusively your problem, which you can solve by creating better content that others will reward with merits, or publicly show interest in becoming a merit source.

For those who give merits for such topics or posts, I have only one question - do you think it is right to encourage members to ask for merits in this way? Not that I'm going to get into what you're going to do with your sMerits, but there are hundreds of quality posts that fly under the radar (accidentally or on purpose).
872  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Bitcoin Bar in Sofia, Bulgaria looks Interesting on: December 05, 2023, 05:00:26 PM
~snip~
To the people who think this is both bad for privacy and security, i still disagree, a criminal wouldn't follow you home for a $5 wrench attack if they are not sure you own a lot of BTC's and if you keep your mouth shut and don't go bragging in that bar, how would one know that you're rich in BTC. Take note that this bar also accepts fiat currency, so it's possible an attacker wouldn't even be sure what payment method you used.

This is your opinion and I respect it, everyone can have their own view of a situation in different ways. However, as I have already written, it is about the bar and what people do there - so although some will drink coffee or tea and go on their way, there are also those who will behave irresponsibly and say something they shouldn't - and those who seek opportunity to do something bad are always nearby and listening.

Nowadays, thieves are very resourceful and can use various methods to collect information, you don't necessarily have to say something in a bar, maybe you wrote something online, and it's very easy to take a picture of someone and search the internet for information.
873  Economy / Reputation / Re: AI Spam Report Reference Thread on: December 05, 2023, 04:11:16 PM
WhyFhy

Bitcointalk, a place of decentralized ideologies, has banned the use of mixers starting Jan 1 2024. This decision presents a fascinating irony and raises several questions about the core values of Bitcoin and the broader crypto community.

The Ideological Conflict:
At its heart, Bitcoin is a decentralized currency. Mixers, which enhance transaction privacy, seem like a natural ally to this cause. Yet, their banning on a platform dedicated to decentralization is contradictory. Does this signify a shift in the community's values, or is it a necessary compromise?

Legal and Ethical Considerations
The rationale behind banning mixers often revolves around legal compliance and preventing illicit activities. While these are valid concerns, do they justify stepping away from the principles of privacy and decentralization?

Community Response and Impact:
How has this decision been received by the broader cryptocurrency community? Does it affect the way we perceive and use Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies?

Speculating on Satoshi Nakamoto’s Perspective:
If Satoshi Nakamoto were to witness this, what would their reaction be? Would they advocate for absolute adherence to privacy and decentralization, or acknowledge the need for some regulatory measures?

The Future of Decentralization and Privacy in Cryptocurrencies:
Looking forward, how do we balance the ideals of privacy and decentralization with the practicalities of regulation and legal compliance? What developments might we anticipate in this domain?

875  Economy / Speculation / Re: So I guess we sell at $48626 ? on: December 05, 2023, 03:41:07 PM
Because the 68.2 Fibonacci level is always right. Even though in 2021 we broke higher to $69K that area originally had a significant pullback. Also the $48000 area is where that pivot is which was the high on March 2022. Not investment advice but its either a coincidence or this fib level is crazy accurate.

I'm not an expert in such things and TA is definitely not my forte, but we should always keep an open mind and take into account that $48k will be some kind of barrier that will stop the current growth. Realistically, there are two reasons why the price is currently rising - one is the very strong belief that the SEC will approve the spot ETF in Q1 2024, and the other is the pre-halving effect that generates the final phase of accumulation.

However, even if we stop at $48k, is it realistic to expect more than a 10% to maybe 15% correction?
876  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can't understand why Korea is in speculation on: December 05, 2023, 03:16:48 PM
I think that, above all, one should respect other people's decisions to invest their money in what they want, as long as such investments are not illegal and do not contribute to endangering other people. If some people (and even the majority) think that investing in something other than Bitcoin is more profitable for them (and that is the main reason for their investment), I don't see why they would be seen as someone who is doing the wrong thing.

Theoretically, if you invest in BTC, it is realistic to expect that you will earn x5 or in the best case x10 in the next 2-5 years, and some altcoin can result in much more than that in the same period. Of course, there is always a risk that things will go downhill, whether it is Bitcoin or even more so with altcoins. People simply like to gamble in a way that they invest a little and get a lot, and that is exactly what the owners of these altcoins promise them.

~snip~
Koreans don't buy bitcoin, thinking there's no difference between bitcoin and altcoins.

Is that your opinion or is there any research to back it up? It's kind of hard for me to believe that most people don't know the difference, but I guess there is some truth in that, because a lot of people have a very wrong perception of what Bitcoin is.

It's not that I'm an expert on South Korea, but I watched a documentary a few years ago and it seems to me that it's the only country where, in addition to knowledge, young people must also have a certain physical predisposition to get a job, which means that many go for medical procedures to look more acceptable to the employer.

Can they even accept btc legally as a payment method in Bulgaria? If so, than at least it wasn’t for nothing completely.

Bulgaria is one of the EU members, and as far as I know, none of the EU members prohibits the use of Bitcoin as a currency, moreover, in some countries you can pay practically everything you want with BTC, and also some countries have 0% tax with some special conditions (if you sell BTC one or two years after purchase).

I can't say how good a business idea such a bar is, but I can agree with @Rikafip that it's not a good idea when it comes to the privacy of anyone visiting such places.
I don't see a problem with patronizing such businesses, except the person goes there and starts bragging about the million dollar worth of BTC in their hardware wallet at home, or if they pay with an address that stores majority of their funds running into hundreds of thousands or millions.

The privacy risk is the same as walking into any bar, everyone can tell you walked in, but they don't know what you own, except you give that info away. You can be robbed or traced back home right after coming out of a bar thar accepts only fiat. I feel if you do what's right and don't do too much, you can have a beer and pay with BTC without any problems.

I would not agree that the risk of entering a Bitcoin cafe is the same as a normal one, because I think it is much easier to "convince" someone to hand you a piece of paper with a seed, than to rob their bank account. In addition, people go to such places to have fun and relax, and this includes drinking alcohol, maybe even drugs - and under such influences, people often say what they would not otherwise say.
878  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beware of Clipboard Virus! on: December 05, 2023, 11:37:39 AM
I also have only 8 GB of RAM
But why? RAM is cheap! If only my laptop could handle more, I'd add more Smiley

For the reason that I don't feel the need for more than that, everything works flawlessly and in fact I always have a surplus of free memory. In addition, I didn't even check how much max RAM I can add, but I assume that it is more than 8 GB because the laptop is not older than 5 years.

It's a 5 year old laptop which originally belonged to one of my relatives. But yes it's quite old. And trying to fix this might make it worse. So I rather use it how it is, until, I can effort to buy a new laptop or pc. I don't store anything important on this device, so there is nothing to worry about.

Maybe it's a low-quality device or your relatives didn't take good care of it, because I have a laptop that's almost 15 years old and it's still almost as functional as when I bought it (but I paid quite a lot for it) with the note that I installed an SSD and generally cleaned it, but I couldn't find the right RAM, so it stayed at 4 GB.

What I want to say is that there is still a significant difference (or at least there used to be) between premium devices and those of lower quality. Fortunately, I can afford to buy such devices, which, combined with careful handling, can last a very long time.
879  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beware of Clipboard Virus! on: December 04, 2023, 03:25:12 PM
I do have these but still it's not enough. You can say it's a decent device and it works without any problems. The only problem is it cannot handle excessive load/multi tasking. I believe if an electric device starts to show symptoms of problems, no matter how much we try to fix it, one problem after another would come. I already had to replace the HDD to SSD. After that, the colling fan started to make noises and now having problems with the sound system. It is still running but might shut down any second.

Yes, I really need to buy a new computer/laptop now
.

Then it's something else, the power supply or the motherboard (I assume it's a desktop computer) and maybe a professional should do diagnostics and determine what the problem is. I also have only 8 GB of RAM, but even when I open two browsers with a dozen tabs and everything else running in the background, I have no problems with slow work or freezing.

BTW I really liked what you did with the quotes. The resizing thingy. Looks very cool. Saves up a lot of space and highlights the reply.  Smiley

That was my intention, and you are the first to notice it in a positive sense. It seems to me that some others think that it is not right to minimize their words, but everyone has their own opinion.

by that I mean a really new one from the store, not a used one.
I think I share my love for old laptops with philipma1957 by now. And with "old", I mean at least 8 GB RAM and SSD. Wipe the laptop and install your own software.
I guess it depends on where you live though: here, corporate laptops are replaced every few years, which makes them cheap and abundant on the second hand market. You can find a decent laptop for less money than a new hardware wallet.

I'm one of those who don't want used things, no matter how well-maintained and in good condition they are. I like to buy new devices that have a guarantee and service provided in case there is a need for the same. I assume that there are such laptops in my environment as well, but I have never paid attention to such things.
880  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you deal with the exponential appreciation of Bitcoin? (for the oldest on on: December 04, 2023, 02:47:04 PM
let's assume that you bought BTC at 10 dollars, obviously over time it has appreciated in value numerous times compared to fiat, how do you feel about this, not in terms of increasing your purchasing power and having improved your life with this etc, of course, but in terms of the fact that if I had bought it at 10 dollars, any amount above that I would feel like I was paying "expensively"... so what is it like to deal with this, for example, doing your DCA at a price of 30, 40 thousand dollars, knowing that it is still low, but compared to its initial price it is extremely "expensive"...

Do you think it's expensive to take a fund of 15 thousand compared to what you paid in the past? how do you deal with this?

You only think about Bitcoin in the context of investing because of the profit and the price, which is the main factor, but Bitcoin is actually much more than that. Even if you think that 10+ years ago someone paid only $10 for 1 BTC, maybe even then they considered it an expensive investment considering that they could mine even 50 BTC per block with their personal computer.

Of course, anyone who has invested at such low prices can regret from time to time that they didn't buy more, but I don't see the slightest logic in anyone seriously breaking their head about it, and at the same time not learning anything from it all.

Even today, Bitcoin is actually very cheap considering the potential it has, but again I note not only because of the price compared to fiat, but also because of its characteristic that it cannot (at least not completely) be censored. I personally have no problem with what you are asking, I bought and spent BTC when it was only worth a few hundred $, and I do the same today.
