Right you are. Unless there's a condenser holding just enough charge to keep something still on for minutes. Or hours.

yeah supercaps are getting more and more common (like in consumer SSDs etc) so its gonna be pretty cheap and easy to include in even base model phones and such.

big brother never sleeps

are there any situations when having battery in, but phone off can affect anything?
A genuine question.

if the battery is in, some part of the phone is on, even if its just something that looks for the power button to be pressed. who knows what else could be powered when the battery is in it but "dormant" (idle) waiting for some trigger.

no battery is the only way to be sure its really, really off instead of some kind of "soft" off mode.

Damn right I do. It's none of anyone's business if my wallets are lost or it's just my choice to not touch them.

The only problem with that unspendable utxos impose a burden on the bitcoin network (the rest of us). The only way to deal with that is by cleaning out the utxo set periodically.

Quote
I would argue that the nearly 400GB of block data would be a better point to argue from. Block data grows linearly while UTXO doesn't necessarily have the same growth.

yeah that really needs to be looked at because BTC. Let alone ten times that.

400 gb? geeze you should see my steam folders size.

i run a full unpruned node, gave it a 500 gb ssd, which will last until a 1tb ssd is the price of dirt..

anyway i like my old UTXOs thank you. and the network will still have them ready for me years from now. thats how bitcoin works.

Love him or hate him, Jbear is a very interesting individual. He and I had several long discussions on music and vintage musical gear. He owns some gear used by Joe Walsh, Elton John, Rick Derringer, Billy Joel. and Michael Jackson.

I won't go into details because he told me this privately.

Yeah I chatted a couple times in this realm as well... I wrote him privately after breaking down and buying a piece of Behringer gear and falling in love with it (Wing) to my great surprise.

The only piece of gear I own with anything like a pedigree is a used mic I paid 100$ for that was supposedly tried out on a J-Lo track and rejected. lol.

As I said I hope he's OK and just got tired of being picked on for BSV...

yeah i hope he and his are ok too. but he always struck me as someone who covers their bases well. very knowledgeable on a variety of subjects. definitely miss him..

Wow, that is really nasty. It can really go in any direction. MA200 can move down or MA50 can move up. Now it's just a question of which player does what.
I'm assuming the worst. And pull out my network cable...

COWARD!! come BACK

it is traditional around here to celebrate 85% loses dips with toasts and memes.

Hello friends! I haven't written for a month because a series of unfortunate accidents which happened to my father during our vacation. His life was in a great danger and it is not over yet. I experienced a big shock and I still haven't completely come out of it. May God save us! I have the support of my faithful friends who have helped us tremendously and continue to do so. Regarding Bitcoin, I am not as happy as before, of course. But when I have a chance, I continue to buy. I will perhaps write more in a few weeks. Stay strong and hodl as long as possible!

sorry to hear that.. best wishes and prayers for your dad and very glad for your friends support and faithfulness.

I'd think if a mirror breaks down, all you have to do is place a fresh disk where the failing one was? That's the whole point of mirroring, or am I missing something?

I think software mirroring (by RAID or other system) is better, since the details can be reproduced easily on different processing hardware.

Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

i know when i ran mirrored 1 TB spinner drives when one tossed errors and failed the other kept on trucking. threw another 1 TB drive in (wasnt an exact match) and i had to run something in the built in raid bios (intel) and the mirror was back in raid 1 mode. this was on a Z97 intel board on windows.

so for sure a single drive from a mirror runs fine alone. i just had drive failure notices popping up in logs and status icons till i fixed it.

On another note, I am waiting on 3 new 1TB SSD drives and a dedicated UPS. Will be running them in RAID 1 with one spare, not much progress for now. box setup will be i5 (8th Gen) and 16GB RAM

cAPSLOCK, did you have your bitcoind running on the same box as lnd or they are separate?

I am planning on running this on Linux not Windows. I haven't had a full time linux box in the house since Slackware 13.37.... hmm just notice Slackware last major release was 2016...

Real servers run real UNIX (or Linux).
I would reconsider the SSD and use spinning discs. SSD's are shitty when it comes to data recovery and "disk crashes". i would also change the drive firmware to less frequent head parking values, to minimize wear on the drives. Lately, espicially since introduction of "green drives", manufacturers try to save power by parking heads in much shorter intervals.

jBreher would know a lot more about that, iirc.

three SSDs in raid 1 with a hot spare.. seems pretty solid setup to me but im no expert.

as far as data recovery with lightning wouldnt that be useless anyway? as by the time you could recover the lightning data the channel would be closed on the other end anyway. wouldnt it? not too familiar with lightning.

You should know that no one else has the mind capable of crunching the numbers that Proudhon does. He is a god among mathematicians.

That is true. People say Niels Bohr and Max Planck are the founding fathers of quantum physics but I know better. I know it was Proudhon.

pretty sure proudhon was also involved with the discovery of imaginary numbers too.

man if a 55% dip scares you, well you are in for a rough time.

so just strap in, get used to it and enjoy the ride.
916  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin become Multivac? on: September 08, 2021, 12:52:27 PM
Huh  wut

bitcoin cant become some AI. its a clearly defined protocol, it only obeys rules. not create new ones on its own.

but an external AI could certainly use btc. i mean AI vehicles and bots will want to buy life giving energy, life extending maintenance, upgraded stuff like chrome spinner wheels and sneakers that light up, you know all the stuff the cool AI wear  so to earn coin it could rent itself out (package delivery, play a song and dance whatever) and get paid in btc.

Well shit I just sliced my goddamn toe and blood everywhere!

I dropped a hammer on the tile and have been too busy (lets call it busy because I hate to admit to being lazy!) and was soaked after a shower and just slipped right into the sharp edge dammit.

Toes Bleed ALOT!!!

I cut my hand badly on a tile doing bathroom reno once. Definitely not fun and I was on a time crunch so it was just wrap it in a bunch of tissue paper and keep going. I got some sturdy gloves ASAP after that.

i wound up buying special cut/puncture resistant gloves when i did some tear out and remodeling. well worth the money (and they are pretty cheap anyways).

also have those protective chainsaw pants too. another well worth it purchase although ive never needed them thankfully.

guess cut resistant socks are next. somebody should step up and make a fortune. well maybe not but looks like at least one person here may buy a pair.

I used to love starflight/art of war and a ton of others I can't recall anymore. I remember being blown away when I found I could hack the palette on the cga.  And upgraded to evga just for warlords. Me and a buddy spent untold hours on warlords and I still to this day spark up a game of warlords 4. A few years ago we still had 4 guys playing warlords 4 pbem. I should get int ouch and get another game going. Smiley

Starflight was incredible, great story and a pretty fun game. Likewise I got Starcraft and spent a week solid playing it. As in I didn't bother to go to work, barely slept, etc.

When I got the first Everquest game I played it locally, then at the end of the adventure I was facing that big door with the button that said "Click here to join online". I thought about it, popped the CD, and tossed it in the trash. Because if I had played on my life would have been OVER.

Holt shit you almost described me exactly!

I never played a MMO because of that as well!

I had 8 systems setup 24/7 (4 upstairs and 4 in the basement)  and had people over or months on end only leaving to goto work playing starcraft and a few others (halflife/quake).

remember tbase-2 network cables and bmc connectors for lan parties? fairly regularly had 4 people either here or a buds house and man those parties lasted forever.  oh man nothing compared to all night drunken drugged pizza fueled fragging and racing.

then we all got married. while thats just as much (more even) fun i do miss the lan parties.

The issue I seem to remember with the later Tandys were they cost a shitload and their latest model that I remember looking at at the time still had CGA so you had to do a EGA upgrade on it right out of the box. Was that the T1000 (Cyberdyne model) Huh

Funny you have MFMs around, I made a living off of converting MFM's to RLL's, can't remember how many st-225's I converted to st-238's. I remember having to goto Ms-dos from cpm for games on my Zenith 5150 back then. I'd love to have that old system now just for the gold recovery, That whole board was gold including all the trace lines!

yup still have my ST225 that i bought a RLL controller card for (came with a MFM controller).. took the ST-225 in MFM mode from 20mb to 30 mb in RLL mode or something like that. presto instant 30% increase.

had an paradise  EGA card in my IBM XT, kinda funny the card had 1 meg memory and the computer itself only had 640k. (going from memory on some of those numbers) but yeah tossed in an AST 6 pack card for expanded memory and persistent time/date, an original soundblaster with 4 watts speaker level outputs and a rotary volume control in the slot plate, no amp needed.

some of the best games i can remember were on that IBM XT and later an AT. wing commander, mech warrior II.. man until doom and later GL quake nothing could touch those early games for me.

edit still buying 30 dollar chunks
