my tandy model 4P (Z80 cpu, 2x 5.25 floppies, 128 megs ram bank switched) had a 1200 built in, as well as my tandy 100 "laptop" with its 300 baud <- that thing rocked, keyboard is still better than prolly 90% of the keyboards on anything today, laptop or desktop. excepting the original IBM keyboards. freakin tanks those things (they weigh more than some entire modern computers) and i still have a couple. retro build here i come 5.25 MFM hard drives for the win! well perhaps not but still..

CP/M, win3.11... dos 3.3  good times

I had no idea that Tandy was still producing TRS-80s up till that 90s. The 4P looks pretty sweet, did you actually use it as a luggable though? I wonder how many luggables were actually moved around. Now, the Model 100, that was sweet. I have its competitor, the Epson Hx-20, I don't use it as much as I should but I get it out several times. In fact, the embedded dot matrix printer is what I use to print my wallet seeds (encrypted of course). I keep wondering if I could ever get it to create them natively rather then me just typing them in.

yup lugged that sucker all over the place. man it was heavy. but its nice big screen (vs a kaypro i had, ugh), dual floppies, modem, spots to keep maybe 10 floppies safe in the case, decent kb, standard parallel printer port and the ability to use the extra bank switched 64k as a ramdisk made it pretty useful for that period of my life.

the model 100 doesnt have a printer alas. as its kinda the ultimate in minimalist full sized keyboard computing. runs on 4 "AA" batteries. beat that nowadays lol

Good morning Pacific Time Zener's
Well that's a good idea.. I have two accounts so I'm gonna buy $30 x 2 = $60 (it ain't nothing but honest work)

Well, why not... I was thinking about doing it too. But, as you say, $30 is too little. Maybe add a 0 or more depending on everyone's circumstances?

I'm in.

Well this $30 is not about the money but about bringing more people to bitcoin.

Also to me I think one person buying in bulk let say one person or entity buying $1million worth bitcoin or 10,000 people buying $100 each is more valuable and effective than a single entity.

i have a couple exchanges ill buy at. but i figure that ill do multiple individual $30 buys in a row on each. that way they stand out more. otherwise a single larger sum (even if multiples of 30) might get lost in the normal transactions. not that a large tx is bad but i want to make sure those multiple 30 dollar buys stand right out there.

edit prolly messed the quotes up sorry

edit2 mmmmm just in time for a dip too

cant help but laugh at the "connect to the internet.. in MINUTES!" and today my main gear stays connected 24/7 lol

my external usr 56k couldnt ever manage full speed (crap POTS) but even 33.6 was magnitudes better than my 1st 300 baud for my c64, and later a 14.4 that you cradled the handset on the acoustic coupler.

my tandy model 4P (Z80 cpu, 2x 5.25 floppies, 128 megs kilobytes ram bank switched) had a 1200 built in, as well as my tandy 100 "laptop" with its 300 baud <- that thing rocked, keyboard is still better than prolly 90% of the keyboards on anything today, laptop or desktop. excepting the original IBM keyboards. freakin tanks those things (they weigh more than some entire modern computers) and i still have a couple. retro build here i come 5.25 MFM hard drives for the win! well perhaps not but still..

Eventually the "McDonalds" will be a series of smart contracts running the restaurant with an algorithm as the "owner".

And there won't be stand-alone restaurants anymore, only ghost kitchens for delivery. McDonalds et al will only exist as a brand on a phone app.

The future will be a combo of Idiocracy and Wall-E.

well a Wall-E unit is at least useful for finding discarded stuff. like Ramon noodles and ammo.

Oh noes! We crashed down to 51.5k. Better call Proudhon....

doesnt someone here have him on speed dial or something?
927  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the stupidest thing you have bought for BTC in the past ? on: September 06, 2021, 11:44:50 AM
i bought lots of "stupid" stuff but back in 2011-2013ish coins were cheap, and when they went up in value (like ~1000) it was hard NOT to buy new toys and such. after all i started mining  in 2011 on GPUs just barely understanding the white paper. i made btc while i was sleeping basically (coming from folding@home and SETI i was used to donating free electric and computing power to various projects). bitcoin was basically just another project i ran, even at a loss (like when it crashed to ~2.00 USD). i mean its not like i made money at folding either, thats was just for the warm fuzzies.

so yeah "upgrades" happened here and there, after all bitcoin is made to be USED.. not hodled forever.

i think my most expensive (in todays btc price of ~52k USD) "useless" buy was like 5 games when steam took btc. 5 games, maybe 100 grand in todays value, maybe more. lol. i even played a couple of them, basically i just picked 5 that seemed interesting (turns out they really wernt) as i just wanted to support btc on steam.

and no real regrets. i feel i helped (in my very insignificant way) btc along its journey by early mining (it sure looked to be on deaths door around late 2011) and buying stuff. sure if i held it all today i would be, well pretty flush. but since btc has already allowed me to retire years early i dont worry about it. i achieved my goal. however you need achive yours, go for it.

both of us were at 87-89 oxogen levels you could feel it. She had 2x pneumonia but she got better.

Picked up a pulse oximeter when this whole COVID-19 shebang started.

O2 levels are at 95% and heart rate is pretty steady at 70 bpm. Usually run close to 59-62 bpm when healthy. No fever right now - totally normal. But burned up to 101.x last night before heading back down.

Not anticipating any issues fighting this off, based on how I'm feeling presently. I have to think the first day of infection is the worst, provided you don't come down with secondary infections. The 24 hour Advil I took is starting to wear off, so starting to feel a bit cruddy again. Body aches and chills slowly starting to return.

I'm actually a little bit upset the fucking horse paste is taking so goddamn long to arrive...

glad you and Rick are doing ok so far.

get this
https://www.amazon.com/Voldyne-5000-Volumetric-Exerciser-Each/dp/B000PAR7KQ
helps with breathing correctly.

if that horse paste thing wasnt sarcasm (hope it was) im sure you can do conversions from horse and sheep dosages to human. dont forget diapers and please report any other "interesting" effects. hope you dont take that wrong but well we both have thick skin (although i havent worked my way up to titanium plates yet, yes im a wuss) and very odd senses of humors. well me at least.

i wish you both the best in recovering.

Reliant robin.

didnt top gear (the REAL top gear not the american posers version) do a stint on these things. it was hilarious.
933  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin, I salute your final ATH. on: September 04, 2021, 11:44:30 AM
I don't know why but I feel like this thread be occasionally be bumped so when the prices start breaking the current ATH, we will be able to celebrate it in this thread so @proudhon can see how wrong he/she is and just to add insult to the injury.

i think youre missing the whole point of proudhons game.

But what is proudhon’s game? There’s nothing he can do anymore, especially not move the price of Bitcoin with his trolling. I believe he was one of those OGs who held more than 1000 coins, but who sold too early. 7 digits would have made him a billionare.

i think the object of his game is to figure out what the object of his game is.
934  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] The most generous users giving merits on: September 04, 2021, 11:09:56 AM
I gave this 3 merits it was good.
I dont give high merits to legends as they most likely dont need them.

I prefer giving guys like you 3-6 merits.

Lower ranked.
Not new.
Well written quality posts.

In fact when I find a good post from someone that ticks the boxes above I often will read all their posts.
End up 🆙 giving 3 or 4 merits a few times.

Below is a quote from a reputable legendary who also share same understanding with you.
Quote

...don't give me merits in the future--save them for lower-ranked members who need them to rank up, especially those on any local board you might frequent.

[...]

legendaries still deserve merits so they in turn can give them out. so i do merit legendaries but i try to only give 1 unless its really up there in info/quality.

so i do tend to give move merits to those who can use them to rank up.

disclosure: im a merit source so i try to spread them out. but when legendaries make 90+% of the good posts well..

From the time Music was Music and called the Real shit

"Real Shit"? I think it's safe to say you are very young, I have a pretty good idea about many, many varied types of music. I have been playing "Real Instruments" longer than you have been alive. And they pay me to do so.

moog? extra credit if you built it yourself.

or a cigar box guitar maybe, same bonus applies

either way beats me, i "play" bass, uke, and harp. if you can call it "playing".. cats hide when i go near my instruments. come to think of it so does my wife. but with her playing her violin and flute, they come sit and listen. me? they hide for days

Another failure to sustainably penetrate $50k while alts are getting most of the attention. This is the predictable outcome of a failed cryptocurrency. Expect to see mostly lower prices for the rest of the year (and ever).
He did it again.... dafuq??

well, maths and science obviously. duh

its just not clear what planet/dimension that that peculiar maths and science originated from.
937  Other / Off-topic / Re: will we witness a blockchain based election in our life time? on: September 03, 2021, 11:35:14 AM
while its a good idea, good luck selling it to the masses. to many/most blockcains are black magic (ask the average voter what a blockchain is, tehn post the best/funniest answers here), even though with a blockchain (done right of course) it would be the most open, auditable election there could be.
938  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: South African Man Loses $900,000 Worth Of BTC After Accidentally Deleting Keys on: September 03, 2021, 11:28:06 AM
It is better to store BTC in an online wallet, such as COINBASE .
Are you kidding me?

yeah, absolute worst advice ever. only time coin should be stored at an exchange is if maybe trading (good luck) or if you have an amount laddered there for automatic sells/buys. and then only enough to cover those orders.

then be prepared to lose it all at any time. seriously.
939  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 03, 2021, 11:11:21 AM
so you mean we are getting bored?

man never thought having 100s of percent  profit year after year would ever be boring but i guess one does get used to it..

Yes, that's what I mean. We've just touched $50,400 btw, let's see if we break it today.

yeah i guess 50k(ish) is pretty boring. im taking a nap now wake me at like 60k or something. or 40k.
