gasoline sucks as it does not store well if I had my way you would see almost no gas.

I think this depends on the gas. I had ethanol-free gas I kept in my basement for 5 years and it ran like fresh when I dug it out. I've also had ethanol gas that was unusable after a season.

The blockchain grows about 50G per year, so you're good for another 10 years. 1T sounds like the right choice.

I agree. SSDs have a sweet spot and 1T is about where it is right now unless you have specific needs. I've never found upgrading to be much of a pain, particularly for data drives. In fact, keeping system drives as small as possible helps keep upgrades snappy.

$50K is being such a tease right now.

Keeping me from my comfy bed...

Re: Propane vs gas. You need 1.38 times as much propane as gasoline for the same energy by volume (assuming liquid propane) and for 20lbs of propane, the container weighs about as much as the fuel it contains

Why does the ethanol mix not store well?
Pure petrol stores well, as you said, I have also used really old petrol from 20 liter cans I had stored in my garage.
And ethanol also stores well, I have 40 year old vodka that still works fine. So why does the mix not age well?

i thought it absorbed water or something. even with fuel stabilizer it wont last really. hate it as i keeo a good reserve of gas for the generators, as much as i rotate and try to blend old and new i have found gas thats iffy when used. and thats NOT want you want to hear in your genset powering your house after a disaster.

may go with phils idea and buy a new genset that runs both LP and gas, i think there may be retorfit kits too,, unsure.

stop teasing us and give us a new ath, that up and down around 50k is unbearable

That's because we are badly accustomed to to the profitability of Bitcoin. Before it existed, such high returns could only be obtained with very high risk assets, so the potential profitability was coupled with a very high potential risk of losing your money, if not outright scams. To despair when the price of Bitcoin has "only" gone up 500% in the last year is very funny.

And it's happened to me too, eh, but if you think about it, it's a good laugh.

so you mean we are getting bored?

man never thought having 100s of percent  profit year after year would ever be boring but i guess one does get used to it..

And I built myself a electric fan, got a universal fan from Biltema (40-ish bucks) and a relay and attached it to the old fan protection thingy and removed the original visko fan. And that old fan was a lot heavier than I thought, it's gonna be interesting to see if it makes any difference on the gas consumption.

watch out how you wire that electric fan up, a bud of mine swapped a monster pontiac 472 cu (?) into a chevy el camino (originally had a 350 cu i think) so the stock 472 fan didnt fit in the engine bay, so he pulled it and wired electric dual fans in front of the radiator on a manual switch. well the wires melted as well as (aux) harness. bit of a fire resulted.

but that car could snap necks like no bodys business. well except when it was on fire.

no real damage but a lot of re working and rewiring.

well worth it though heh good times in that car.

but my day is made as proundhons 45k thread is dead.

I really wish the mods had left my locked slots of threads  alone.  no fucking sense of humor or history on their part.

The unexpected 2FA notifications led some customers to panic sell everything.

coinbase fuckery finds a new level.

never got that email. not sure why. didnt even find out about it till the ars article yesterday (im a regular reader there).

one guy panic sold like 60k of coin. as to why he kept that amount there instead of in his own wallet is beyond me. exchanges are for money/coin  you intend to have ready to go via buy/sell ladders. and its money/coin that you should be prepared to kiss goodbye anyway, not you keys etc.

949  Other / Archival / Re: PsychoticBoy account for Sale. Ex staff member, donator, extreme legendary on: August 29, 2021, 11:24:31 AM
iirc donators can change their screen names at will

so if sold the buyer could change screen names at will also. adding to the confusion.

and it seems selling accounts is fine with the management. of course depending it can also be neg trusted and and red flagged depending on whats done with it.

i imaging a donator account is worth some decent coin. so perhaps if a donator account is sold then perhaps  it could lose it name change capability? at the very least.

then again its his account to sell i guess.

never got the account selling bit though.

a while back there was a calculator that told you what you might get as a price if you sold an account. checked mine and it wasnt anything to sneeze at.. i was impressed actually. but im not that kind of person. if i leave i will do something like set my pw to something like 1000 characters or maybe ask peeps to neg trust and red flag me to prevent anyone from wanting it or hacking the account. iow NO ONE will get or want my account after i trash it rep wise.

952  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner 5.7b: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux) on: August 28, 2021, 05:04:15 PM

AMD 6600 XT just came up right now so most probably Phoenix miner which has an history full of issues for the Big Navi 6000 series it appears to have the same problem.I have been suffering big time with Rx 6800 XT until the latest release 5.7b which I have a record it running for 75 hours without problems so far.I am pretty sure based on this that in future versions the 6600 XT will be fully supported without problems in Phoenix miner.

thanks for the info. been using my 6700xt fine for several months on phoenix, guess i was lulled into a false sense of security.

gonna have to pay more attention.. im used to my rig staying stable for months and months with no updates or reboots.

but shoulda known, new gpu architectures means new learning curve. duh.
953  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner 5.7b: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux) on: August 28, 2021, 04:12:16 PM
so whats up with cl error -11 and -41.

this only started when i installed a 6600XT, the 6700xt in the same rig was fine.

rig is an onda D8P (G4400, 8 gigs ram, 120 gig ssd, 2x g3 evga 850s) with 1080ti, 1070ti, 1070, 6700xt - ran fine on all that for months

using phoenix 5.7b

then added the 6600xt no joy it fails and exits the program.  pcie plugs is connected. i changed slots no joy there either.

installed latest win update 21/h1 (i think have to check but its what win update just installed), amd driver is dated 8/25/2021 so its the latest. swap is 64 gigs.

i know people are mining on the 6600xt, so what am i doing wrong?

edit mining eth

EDIT   switched to nbminer.. works fine with NO other changes. dropped it in and it just ran... so much for phoenixminer

sure, my wife knows my hot wallets passwords.

as for cold storage wallet seeds,  she knows their locations and how to recover wallets from then. i made her do dry runs on test wallets i created. she also knows how to do it securely (ie all electronics off/next room, security cams off etc)

seems to me without my family being able to recover my coins when im dead is damn piss poor planning.

Ohh nice, not gonna donate to the team when you kick..real good job there bud! Cheesy

the "donation to all" bit? nah, plenty of others doing that. family come 1st.. even my fur kids.

ive even have in my will  provisions my for my cats, they will continue live in luxury when we pass.

Should I be worried about my holdings on Coinbase?

https://www.techradar.com/news/coinbase-customers-up-in-arms-after-hackers-drain-crypto-wallets

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/24/coinbase-slammed-for-terrible-customer-service-after-hackers-drain-user-accounts.html

It looks like it only (potentially) impact folks that use 2FA over SMS as the hack involves SIM swapping to intercept SMS messages.  In other words, if you use Google Authenticator when logging into CB, you should be ok.

yeah sim problems and weak/no 2fa on email and such were the main problems afair. i use coinbase so have followed this over the years.

coinbase can now use a yubikey and so can gmail. ive used yubikeys for a couple years now, they work great.

and for the record ive had zero issues with coinbase and have been with them 7 or 8 years now.

edit: not recommending coinbase per se, just posting my experience.

And also, I had no idea cars doesn't have distributor caps anymore.

Yep. Haven't had a distributor since 2000 and that was my wife's mini. My current car doesn't even have spark plugs Cheesy

i dont miss distributors.. use to keep a can of WD40 (or wire dryer) in the vehicles to spray the coil, cap and plug wires when they got wet.
