Wow these crazy “future human” Robots from Boston Dynamics got some software update.

But can they mine bitcoins?

no those things will force US to mine for THEM

i for one welcome our new robotic overlords
963  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will not be able to stay above 45k for ten days in a row ever again. on: August 18, 2021, 05:44:10 PM
^ First attempt at >45k already invalidated in the last few hours making yer heart flutter hon? 44k as I woke up (really, really early, but well into Asian afternoon) but disappointed in the bears that they're not pushing it more enthusiastically towards 40k right now.

Bitcoin can crash to $30,000 tomorrow, but zoom out, nothing can challenge the fact that it’s on a very long term trend to $100,000. Then you zoom out BSV and prepare to laugh. Calvin Ayre’s miners are dumping to buy Bitcoin. The Flat-Earthers were scammed. Haha. Cool

When I zoom out what I see is a final ATH of ~$64k, and then the classic collapse and dead cat bounces which are going to take us back below $10k which is the proven max price bitcoin can sustain.

so according to that paper "you" and that other guy wrote (which one in the credits was you?) linked in some post or another of yours its value is actually zero, thus 10,000=0 ?

dude/dudette, you need to show your work here for credit.
964  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Things I wish I knew before starting my crypto journey on: August 18, 2021, 02:44:04 PM
Shit happens and we got to move on, I wish I knew about BTC before going for shitcoins, I never learn about BTC instead I went after shitcoins end up wasting many years for nothing but we learn the hardest way some times

the bolded part is kinda surprising, i would think bitcoin would be the 1st hit in any search about  "crypto".

i agree with everything else, alts are largely a way to lose money. and i learned the hard way too, although i started in bitcoin i got lured into alts for a bit.

Do you guys really think people will use their BTC to pay for cinema halls, paying their Mortgages and shit? No fucking way.

spend and replace. thats what i try to do if i buy something using btc.

more adoption is more adoption. always good.
966  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there merit to a fixed supply increase rather than fixed supply cap? on: August 18, 2021, 12:30:51 PM
seriously? THATS your argument?

preeeety sure the devs can handle that. maybe base it on something to do with blockhight or whatever.

wow
so not only do you not care about bitcoin rules
so not only do you not care about scarcity of bitcoin
so not only do you not care about the philosophy of bitcoins reason for creation

but you are willing to also not care about the auditability or the bug risks..
all so that you can get your other network to be more compatible..

dang..
here is a solution for you
mess around with LN. make LN bitcoin compatible. make LN fit the bitcoin rules
LN has no consensus. so LN can be changed easily to fit. so go change LN to match the bitcoin rules
stop trying to change bitcoin to meet LN's flimsy unstructured rule

seems the same rules to me. and most everyone else gets this. it would be extensively tested and being open source anyone can audit it.

originally i didnt trust segwit either so i kinda know where youre coming from. the if it works dont mess with it till its absolutely necessary mentality. so its likely 2nd layer will be the thing as time passes.

i dont do lightening atm. ill wait for moar testing, just like i did with segwit.

anyhow peace out  Grin im done.

edit: btw we are talking about just adding "decimal places" not increasing the supply now. i FIRMLY oppose that. that would NOT be bitcoin and i would bail if that happened.

967  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there merit to a fixed supply increase rather than fixed supply cap? on: August 18, 2021, 12:09:43 PM
the funny part is when validating a transaction value in a raw tx data
a value from a 2015 transaction of 6.25btc is
100101010000001011111001000000  /100,000,000

but if you put that same /100,000,000 to the deluded 6.25 of the millisat
1001000110000100111001110010101000000000 /100,000,000
you would get 6250btc

think about it. if you change the /100,000,000 to /100,000,000,000
you also break the old transactions by making 6.25 become 0.00625

so the code has to be ripped apart and changed and then using different cludgy math to try to not cause a bug where 6250btc is created when it should be 6.25btc
or avoid a bug where 6.25 old tx is then deemed 0.00625

seriously? THATS your argument?

preeeety sure the devs can handle that. maybe base the tx validation code on something to do with blockhight the tx is in if/when this is implemented.

however you slice (hehe) it adding more bits would require a hard fork (or would it?) so the code would be changed and tested anyway. just like any other new version.

even you know that the block halving events is not technically btc/2 but binary -1bit
[...]
your top down delusions is just your avoidance tactic of not understanding/ignoring/dismissing the real rule of bitcoin

the way i understand it the same bit would still be used (8th). (or whatever it is im not a programmer). not the NEW least significant bit, the OLD least significant bit would still be the one used for halving.

IOW you do count from the "top" (most significant bit) not the bottom (least significant bit). its just easier to use the LSB at the moment as its simpler to code in binary arithmetic (just a single opcode? pretty sure all CPUs have a "number=number-1 opcode).. the code would simply not use the LSB anymore and use the 8th MSB (or whatever the term is again not a programmer but the idea seems pretty simple).

Ok.  I google searched and came up with this:

>>>>Why are black henna tattoos bad?
Image result for what is wrong with black henna
The extra ingredient used to blacken henna is often a coal-tar hair dye containing p-phenylenediamine (PPD), an ingredient that can cause dangerous skin reactions in some people. That's the reason hair dyes have a caution statement and instructions to do a "patch test" on a small area of the skin before using them.<<<<<<

Fair enough.. fair enough.

wow are you brave. ive learned not to do image searches on terms in dont know that are posted here. needed new glasses a couple times as the frames melted.

Farmers sometimes place luminous tubes next to electric fencing to check if it works, when there's a power pulse the tube lights up.

CB/armature radio antennas will light florescent tubes up when held near them on transmit.

If BTC hits 250k$, I will achieve financial freedom. Cheesy
I think everyone in the thread would achieve financial freedom if it hit that high. I have had my hopes reinvigorated recently because of the rise of Bitcoin price it really was a bad time for me when it hit the lows we were seeing. I held onto my Bitcoin just in case it recovered but I will be honest I was not expecting it to but I was in a bad place. I am glad that I was proven wrong it recovered and hoping now it will rally to new heights.

If I was to ask everyone here the realistic chance of it reaching 250k do you think it will happen and when?

some here already have reached financial freedom so the current price doesnt really matter, and some wont even @ 250K USD. all sorts here. and dont forget bitcoins famed volatility. +/- 75% or even more seems a recurring theme, just depends on the timing.

as for if/when.. while its probably a not reasonable price at some point, some here have reasoned (fairly well) that it could be 1/2 that (150ish k) in a decade.

IOW no i personally have no clue. we are still at an early stage in this grand experiment imo.
972  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 16, 2021, 11:24:21 PM
OT: a strange thunderstorm yesterday in H-town. Lightning mostly at a very sharp angle, instead of usual where most lightning is typically close to the right angle.
Lost power for a while, but then some strange electrical event occurred.
Some bulbs, especially those that are 'new' (economical) type started glowing in red (not white or yellow) and several electrical outlets (I assume those with fuses) started a slight buzz (which I recorded) for a good 15-20 min, then stopped.

I am not an electrician, but what could have caused it? Some residual charge in the air? It was very weird, never seen/heard anything like that.

something like ball lightning? does weird stuff.. can travel along wires and is not always visible.

ive had my outlets sizzle during close (500 feet maybe) strikes that have taken out several tress along the edge of the lawn. now i have a whole house surge suppressor, wont tame a direct strike but hopefully will help.

A heat pump water heater never made sense to me: Because it pulls the heat from the surrounding air it makes the air in that room cooler. Which the main heat system has to re-warm up. So it's just making your main house heating system work harder, you might as well just power your heater with gas or electricity anyway.

A house heat pump pulls the heat in from outside, so is more efficient than a straight electric heater (there is almost always heat outside even when cold). Geothermal makes optimal sense as it pulls the heat from the ground around your home which is warm-ish even when it's truly cold.

But I don't see the logic in a heat pump water heater. Even if you exhaust the cold air outside it still pulls inside air through it which creates a vacuum in the house which just pulls air in from the outside (which is um... cold). So wut....

unfinished, unconditioned basement where my heat pump hot water tank lives needs cooling and dehumidifying anyways in the summer. lets my basement dehumidifier work less. and in the winter its still always above 50-55 F even pulling heat from the air as its mostly below grade (floor/bottom 80% of the walls are 50-55 F in the winter according to my IR temp gun). again unfinished, unheated, un-air conditioned basement, so i dont care about the temp as long as its about 55ish F or above. so it works out. only annoying thing is the noise, depending on house layout.

having geothermal HVAC plus the hybrid DHW rocks imo. i heat/cool my house with dirt.

edit: agree on the outside exhaust for a hybrid DHW.. kinda stupid drawing outside air in elsewhere in the house. its like those portable AC units that run an exaust duct out to a window.. that particular room may be cooler but the other rooms suffer as they get outside air drawn in.
979  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 15, 2021, 11:15:29 AM
Yeah, efficiency drops off quickly the lower the temps but they have made serious gains in efficiency the last few years. My intent would be to replace the ac units and have it to augment the furnace. I haven't decided whether to get a geo one or not.

A Geo one *will* work in lower temperatures as it draws heat from underground as opposed to air. Much better system to be honest.

Now that I think about it maybe I should replace my natural gas unit with a geothermal. I wonder if it's worth it. Hm......

i have geothermal for heat/cooling and it also has a desuperheater so when the AC is on it dumps extracted heat into a 50 gallon water tank that feeds the hybrid hot water tank. 2000 feet of pex loop in the back yard to sink the heat/cold.

if you can diy it thats like 1/3 the cost probably. you also need really good ducting (as in BIG diameter runs and everything insulated/sealed or youll likely just waste any savings.

love it.
980  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 14, 2021, 10:21:06 PM
About as off topic as it gets but just thought i'd share for anyone e thats interested.

I switched all my bulbs over to LED, replaced my old 60 inch backlite TV and replaced my hot water heater with a heat pump heater and this year my electric is less than half what it was last year!

If anyone is thinking of doing this I highly recommend it. Smiley

You know your old when you love your hot water heater.

yeah i have a hybrid hot water heater set to heat pump only mode (can do hybrid or burst electric etc yours prolly has several modes).. dehumidifies and cools my unfinished basement when it fires up. my dehumidifier in the basement works less, so free(ish) hot water as the dehumidifier comes on less. gotta dehumidify the basement in the summer anyway so win/win.
