Tied up in a legal dispute all week with a neighbor contesting my official signed and stamped survey. Had to retain a lawyer and officially get the Sheriff's Office notified and on-site for a day next week.

How much land is in dispute?

I'm sure you'll win. Modern surveying is pretty accurate. People get funny ideas in their heads about where lines are though.

read through some old deeds (like 50+ years).. stuff like "pile of rocks at the base of the oak tree" and "tree stump at the creek bend" - pretty vague stuff all over.

of course nowadays they get it to inches (or less.. basically a mathematical zero width point)

My current fuck you status projection (presuming $2million as entry level fuck you status) does show that in 10 years (august 2031), it may well take 13.5 BTC to reach fuck you status

10 years to 148K/btc??? since when did you become so bearish?

10 months now.. i can see that as a fairly reasonable guess (SOMA analysis mode of course)

interesting.. so (say) the government could mandate that history books that you bought and own on your kindle can be "revised" - just pressure the author or whatever.

no thanks.

whats on my Nook never changes. my history and scientific stuff will never be "improved" to match the current political climate.

The reason that I prefer the physical books and some newspapers in my library, is they cannot be revised.
History especially is being continually revised to change inconvenient facts that contradict current ideology.
A recent read of George Orwell's 1984 is even a more accurate vision of the future (2021) than when I first read it in 1970.
A favorite quote "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past"

yeah that quote is so true.

i also prefer real books, just something about the heft, the feel, texture of the paper etc. and any artwork really doesnt translate well on a greyscale epaper reader. plus of course the text will never change.

but i cant carry around 2000 books everywhere i go so i actually have sometimes bought both the real and ebook versions of the same novel lol. some may say thats a waste but hey some things are worth having multiple copies of in different formats, for example no eletricity to charge your devices?  all i need is daylight or a candle to read a real book.

and yes i do have a smallish solar cell setup that can charge my phone/nook etc but thats beside the point really.

<snip>

wife has a kindle. it works but its part of the amazon ecosystem that im trying to distance myself from. you know for sure your kindle is reporting back everything you do with it, the Nook, not so much. at least from what ive read on the matter. ive also read (not confirmed it myself) that amazon can change the text of your ebooks on the kindle and also remove them arbitrarily. this was a while ago, maybe its true maybe not.

<snip>

Actually they did that already in 2009, ironically they deleted George Orwells 1984 and Animal Farm from users devices. Also in some instances it was reported that Harry Potter magically disappeared from people's devices:

https://gizmodo.com/amazon-secretly-removes-1984-from-the-kindle-5317703

I didn't find any exact information on what telemetry information the kindle collects and reports back to device-metrics-us.amazon.com but I am pretty confident they know everything about your reading habits.

thanks for the link. did a real quick search but couldnt find anything.

yeah how soon until language in mark twains huckleberry finn is changed to switch to "politically correct" terms in place of what are currently considered offensive terms. being public domain at this point i wonder if they could just do it with no legal repercussions.

They can change the text but they will not because the author of the book could sue them for changing their rightful property. Amazon are a marketplace and the authors sell their creations on it. The only way Amazon could change the book contents legally is if the author went through Amazon's book publishing otherwise they would open themselves up for legal battles.

>and stay away from kindles... amazon trash

I love my kindle.  its what, 5 years old, battery last forever, has wifi.  I use it with Calibre, download and read the Economist for free on it every week or any book/magazine/news you find online for that matter.  I never paid for a single ebook yet and dont plan to.  Thats how I live my whole life.  Renting/subscription models can suck my satoshi

but anyway i also use calibre  its awesome for ereaders to organize stuff and convert between formats.

both the kindle and nooks have great battery life even with the reading light on.

Nook also takes standard SD cards for memory expansion. the kindle (at least the one my wife has) does not. both my Nooks do have SD card slots.

Nook also seems to have a better user interface to me.

edit: i do buy a lot of ebooks through the Nook but the bulk of my stuff is free or like 99 cent sales and such. of course you can also side load anything you find if thats your thing.

i dont mind working on the XJ Cherokee, its kinda soothing in its simplicity. real switches, real transfer case, real everything. well there is a computer but its pretty limited.

I really miss my 1990 Vanden Plas, they don't make them like they used too. Sad
I've looked a few times for one but one in good condition is rarer than hens teeth, only car I ever had stolen.

thats the xj make i thought you were referring too.[/size]

yeah thats why i clarified with "cherokee" later - all (most?) jeeps have 2 letter codes, XJ is the Cherokee (not the Grand Cherokee thats a different model).

always did want a XJ Jag just because looking over that mile long hood with a V12 under it.. well hell yeah.

but im a 4x4 guy at heart.

edit checked out the vanden plas, classy looking stuff. didnt know the history.

wtf try to install better than original parts and the computer says "nope"

Tell computer that you like peeps better, and such computer should take a flying leap off of the nearest cliff.. See if it understands that level of beauty.

Who needs a damned computer telling the actual real peep what to do, unless such computer gets more "yes" into its vocabulary.

It's seems like the computer forgot (or has not been properly trained to know) that you happen to be the one with "fuck you" status, not some inanimate piece of metal, wires, tubes, silicon and gobbledy-gook language skills.

well basically i solved the problem by buying a new vehicle that already had all that newfangled stuff from the factory.

BTW: Lately I've had this urge to ditch my smartphone completely, who wears an "ankle tracker" willingly when all you get on it is propaganda and useless notifications in return? Wink

I've been calling these things personal trackers since the 90's. Almost never take one with me, it would be stupid to make a pattern and then break that pattern one day! Cheesy

with cameras automatically tracking license plates, using any credit card or show any ID at any location they already have you pegged if they want. they sure know my favorite weed dispensaries lol

the phone "tracker" has far far evolved beyond just tracking.

Money can't buy you happiness they say. But it can buy so many nice things (including lambos, hookers and blow) that can make your life at least a tiny bit happier...  Grin

sure, money lets you avoid a lot of misery. but happiness is where you find it, and can cost nothing.

4000 lumen LED lights for the hi beam

i tried to switch out my rear brake/turn signal lights on a 2010 jeep for brighter LEDs. the computer didnt like the different current draw so threw errors (blinkers went super fast, normally an indication a turn signal bulb died.. the LED didnt draw enough to convince the computer it was working apparently). wtf try to install better than original parts and the computer says "nope"

also heard putting HID (think thats it) headlights on a lot of computerized vehicles causes problems too. wrong current draw.

love my 2000 XJ, i can fix/upgrade most anything and all it does is keep running.

BTW: Lately I've had this urge to ditch my smartphone completely, who wears an "ankle tracker" willingly when all you get on it is propaganda and useless notifications in return? Wink

my original reason for having the phone 24/7 was for calls from my wife. period. of course then smart phones come along and now theyre full out computers so its too easy to whip it out at any downtime to "catch up" on the news/social media/whatever ... as if you could ever keep up with all the garbage on the net anyway.

my solution:

i bring my Nook with me everywhere now. couple thousand books at my fingertips and no reason to go to the net for "info" or entertainment.

https://www.gutenberg.org/

start there if youre new to e-readers, everything there is free and can be read on a Nook. or any computer for that matter.

and stay away from kindles... amazon trash

damn, I deleted my impulsive post to LF as I subsequently thought it was kind of douchy of me.
Didn't mean to start a shitstorm...lol

Apparently, a free bottle of 90 proof Peach Schnapps makes me excessively post.   Cheesy

GO BITCOIN

if i drank that stuff it would 1) cause me not to see straight, 2) not be able to control my fingers to type, and 3) the keyboard would be covered in puke anyway. therefore no typing while drunk.

ergo luckily no one sees my drunken musings.

......- she said that on the internet, they call people like me stalkers.   Grin

dude if you're a stalker, I'm afraid to think what I am....

(My 13 year old daughter just begs me to not embarrass her while we are out in public....)

Wow.  My daughter is the same age!

Awesome!! Is this a wo bro bonding moment?   Cheesy Cheesy

edit...nohomo

plot twist: xhomerx and sirazimuth are alts of each other.
997  Other / Meta / Re: Is Bitcointalk.org losing user base? on: August 06, 2021, 01:18:06 PM
I guess this thread can be read in parallel to this one:

What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk?

Asking current members why they would leave the forum could hint us what led past users to walk the same path...

as long as the WO exists i will never leave *

998  Economy / Reputation / Re: LoyceV vs theymos (and get your own Merit graph: up to 20 users per graph) on: August 06, 2021, 01:02:03 PM
Plot twist2: @Theymos is @o_e_l_e_o
If I add Merit earned by confirmed alts (LoyceMobile and theymos_away), I would be on top by now Cheesy

I had a 50 merits bomb ready for @theymos_away, just because. But I guess those merits would be irremediably lost, and this is against my principle.

had the same idea heh.

might be interesting having a "merit carpet bombing" thing between them, see who wins. bit of an merit abuse thing tbh but you know maybe the Bossman will let it slide, i hears pretty cool and hes got a sense of humor, or something that passes as such.

of course next time i log in i may not be a merit source anymore  Grin
999  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will not be able to stay above $35k for 10 consecutive days ever again on: August 06, 2021, 12:43:08 PM
This is too easy
well your wrong because it seems like bitcoin had already stays in above 35k for 10 consecutive days.
but what i was looking at about @philipma1957's thread that bitcoin will never stay above 40k again this year.
Ding, Dong!! The witch is dead!

hahaha , indeed mate , it was now and maybe will never be alive again for the whole 2021  Grin

LARPs never die; they just get more creative in maths and science.

Doctor Who, I liked David Tenant one. I haven't actually seen any before that doctor and after that.

yeah Tenant was ok.

Tom Baker rocked it as dr who in the old series. although once douglas adams got involved it went down hill imo. grab some Tom Baker episodes for a glimpse of what once was.

i loved Christopher Eccleston as the 1st doc in the new run. pity he only stayed one season. liked Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi too.

favorite companion: Zoe.. had a crush on her as a child heh.
