1061  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are "Stakes" in Bounty Campaigns? on: October 16, 2017, 08:10:44 PM
Can you please guide me what is the term "stake"?

Bounty campaigns are using this word/term and reward the bounty participants with stakes.

I would really appreciate if anybody here could guide me. Why don't they reward the participants in crypto currency or their own token? Why use this term and not simple points?

Thanks
Stakes are some kind of coin, if their project runs POS, instead of calling a coin a "coin", you call them "stakes" see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proof-of-stake

because they are self-rewarding,
Quote
"a share or interest in a business, situation, or system.
"GM acquired a 50 per cent stake in Saab""

If you own a stake, you own a part of the mining process.

A stake behaves exactly like the way a normal coin would do, but you get interested on it, because of the mining your "stake" does.

Oh, so that is same as in "Proof of Stake". If participants have more stakes, they would definitely be able to do more data mining. But now another follow-up question is, does the specific coin, say WaqarCoin running bounty campaign, provide stake for the mining of WaqarCoin only? Or does it provide those stakes for mining some other cryptocurrency?
Secondly, is the stake usually equal to the amount of coins which can be mined by node?
Thirdly, it seems like that bounty campaigns are not directly rewarding the participants by giving them coins, rather they are providing them stakes which can be used to do more mining and thus earning more. Is that correct?
Lastly, if the above third point is correct, how do ICOs pay for allocating the stakes to the participants? Usually ICOs reserve 2% or something for the bounties, but how do the ICOs pay for the cost of stakes? If they simply pay in their tokens/coins, it would make complete sense to me. But how does that work with stakes?

Stakes are a means of measurement. let's say Company A is releasing token B and there are 8 people in their bounty campaign, they have allocated 1million tokens for this.
lets say person 1 has 1300 stakes, person 2 has 500 stakes and the rest of the people combined have 4000 stakes.

Then the total would be 5800 stakes

(1 million / 5800)*amount of stakes you have. in case of person 2 that will be : 1 million/5800*500 = 82,6k of token B.

A campgain will only reward you with the tokens of the company they promote or they should specify otherwise.

The comment above is talking about POS which is also a system of stake. Stake would be best defined as a share you hold.
example: ''JP Morgan discredits Bitcoin because they have a stake in taking it down.''
''I don't like to see my investments going down cause I have a direct stake in them and would lose money.''
''I have staked my coins and now can't acces the funds but I by having this share I get rewarded with more of the same coins (POS).''

So POS = Proof of Stake and it means that you submit an amount of coins that become inaccesible untill you cancel the staking to receive more of the same coin and also help that same coin being able to run the network of transactions.

Sorry but you should completely ignore the comment of the other person that replied as he isn't accurately explaining it to you and only making you more confused probably.
1062  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ChaiLink will be huge or another sht coin? on: October 16, 2017, 07:20:26 PM
Can't really answer your questions but I think you shouldn't look so much at dollar value. I think you should just focus on proper investing regardless of $ value.
I think and I think that allot of people see under 1$ coins as the ones that are going to give the most profit. And although most of the coins in the top 100 did start out that way I don't think you should make that your only consideration.

Damn anyone know how ABN AMRO feels about this?

I know someone who's with ABN and he uses Bitonic. So I guess there isn't much of an issue. But the OP did tell the bank that it was bitcoin related
and I'm not sure if you should tell your bank unless they start asking for it.

Goedeavond,

https://www.bitfinex.com/posts/227

Should we expect another dip? Will other exchanges follow? Why? Do you guys have any answers?

SEC has made an anouncement to crack down on exchanges and attempt a full on crash of no recovery with Bitcoin. I think they are just butthurt.
They can't really find an institution or body to talk to about this because everything is decentralized (hahahahaha) so they see harassing exchanges as their only option.
1068  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Metaverse (ETP) The new NEO on: October 16, 2017, 06:16:03 PM
I set my limit buy order at 0.00065 but seems like I missed the train Sad
Yeah you probably won't get your buy order executed at that price, but I wouldn't say you missed the train at all, this thing has a lot of room to grow still.  Would you buy NEO at $3 ?

That is hindsight though, ask anyone now and they will answer yes.
1069  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Which are the best exchange house? on: October 16, 2017, 06:08:03 PM
Started on Coinexchange and really liked it but had problems with excecuting a sell order(bug lasted 1-2 days), contacted support and they were generally unhelpfull, sarcastic and overall not very friendly.
Since then I haven't used it anymore and moved all my business to Bittrex.

I do visit smaller exchanges for some coins that aren't on Bittrex but overall I generally prefer Bittrex. And unless its something special I don't really bother with other exchanges.
1070  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Decentraland(Mana) on: October 16, 2017, 06:04:51 PM
I'm new to the forum and coin trading. One of the alt coins I stumbled on is Decentraland(Mana). I was looking at the biggest percentage losers of the day on Bittrex and Decentraland was some over -100% for the day. When I checked it out, it actually sounds like a really cool concept with a lot of potential down the line. https://decentraland.org

I'm sure the recent big losses stem from the coin coming back down to earth after their ICO, however, in the long run Decentraland sounds like an interesting concept with a lot of potential. I've bought about 90k in Mana as a long term investment. Just wondering what others think of it?

They got listed on Bittrex and it spiked and apparantly as you say has gone down again. I think it is interesting aswell but I also think it bears allot of risk.
1071  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Decentralization part of God/Nature's Plan? on: October 16, 2017, 05:49:57 PM
What would our World be like without Decentralization?

Imagine humans had only one Food source.,one Water source, one Energy Source, even "fire" source is hidden from us etc.. Fortunately everything was decentralized for us without Nature assuming we would destroy ourselves even with the fire.   No single entity has overall  control of these things, meaning they cannot be easily taken away whenever the single entity wants.

Seems Mother Nature knowingly provides ALTERNATIVES with built-in Checks and Balances to increase our chances of survival,,
If Nature were our current human elites, it would have had Centralized Food sources, a Centralized Water source, one Energy Source etc which can all be taken away easily if it wishes.. Our secret-loving human elites just want ABSOLUTE control which is totally against Nature's or God's plan.

Remember the Story of the Tower of Babel? What were the intention of those men?  To Centralize resources for building of world's tallest structure where humans will live together and reach the heavens. This would have centralised power which could eventually lead to intolerance & stagnation. He confused them, they all ran away and became decentralized again.

We Must be Wise!

Hm, on Babylon's tower I think it was more that they tried to build a tower and reach heaven, I can't really say centralisation is part of it because for any building you need to ''centralize'' resources.. and there's an abundance of it anyway so it doesn't really make sense.

I think Babylon's tower is more that of a parable teaching heaven as an experience not expressed by words. On their way in the tower to heaven everyone started to misunderstand eachother, which could refer to the many interpretations you can have on religious texts/spiritual texts or texts in general about heaven.
So they failed to build their tower and reach heaven. I think the tower is a symbol for transcendence, getting away from earth and reaching to the sky.
Since words are not transcendent by nature you can't explain heaven, getting to heaven (building the tower higher) with these words so people misunderstand eachother.

Also I can't really say I agree with your theory. As in the desert water can most often only be found in specific places and in terms of centralisation or decentralisation you'd have to say that water is centralized in location. Anyone can make use of it.. if you know where to find it that is.

Nature is a force of development. If there is such a thing as centralisation and decentralisation in nature it surely had to be both.

Balance is more a fill in the gap type of thing. ''Panta Rei'', high pressure fills out low pressure area's (weather).

If we look at nature and animal species it is as common to see a centralised government with apes and lions for example as it is to see a decentralized type of system such as penguins, fish and birds. No one takes a leading position and everyone fills in the gaps left behind by the previous and thus constantly flowing.

Penguins make large circles to centralize the heat to the middle in very harsh, cold envoirments. The group then without any leader naturally rotates this circle so every penguin can benefit from the generated heat and not die from hypothermia.

I think that sums up all the arguments I have.

1072  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Future Social Media ? on: October 16, 2017, 05:34:37 PM
There are so many social media's available now a days. You may have heard or used ORKUT and Twoo. When they were started people were saying these are the best social media platform but when Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Telegram and Insta etc came into the market they rocked or you can say change the era of social media.
What do you think these are the best and last social media??? Or in some year we will have another social media ?

I don't think at all that these are the best I think they are the most succesfull. Social media is peer focused. If you have a celebrity using your social media then you can expect their fans to also use that same platform.
If you have your friends on one platform then you naturally also join that platform.
If you then have celebs and other people on your platform naturally businesses will want to join your platform to sponsor, advertise and so on.

I think there will at some point be a social media shift, generations change and often when it comes to social platforms its the young generations that will set the tone and pace for where and what platform. If young people suddenly think privacy is important then they will migrate from facebook.

Businesses will just go where ever young people go because they know they can profit allot from that group of consumers.
Parents will go where the young people go because they want to be up-to-date with their young ones internet activities and possibly moniter them.

I think that when these platforms first arrived that it was very hyped and everyone's friends were doing it. But you hear it more and more that people are generally dissatisfied with facebook and their policies (from young people). Some even regret making an account in the first place. It can still take a while though because the conveinience is that everyone uses these platforms. So it will take some trendsetters to migrate.

Businesses actively track social media platforms userbase and look out for where the trend is going and what platforms are favored.

hi
is pos working ?

Developer says that they're currently still in POW phase and that POS will begin once that is finished.
1074  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Virta Unique Coin Launch on: October 16, 2017, 03:00:42 PM
I spoke to the developers by email (took less as a day for them to reply) and they said they're currently engaged in developing a product and service.
From what they said I think it sounds promising and I look forward to hearing more.
They said they will be updating the site soon aswell.

1075  Economy / Economics / Re: BITCOIN misconceptions on: October 16, 2017, 02:15:16 PM
Well you also have to understand that some people here come from countries where a signature campaign might be half their rent or something for the month.
So with all the bounty's you could potentially make a living on it and why not? Translating can be a full time job. Some people also quit their jobs to go 24/7 on social media. If you can do that and you like it and its better paying and quality work as opposed to your previous engagements why not?

I hodl and spend bitcoin. Sometimes I just like to order some food and I use BTC. Or when I made a profit on some altcoins and I put some of that BTC into a ''reward'' for myself.
I think its fun using Bitcoin to buy such things.

I would much rather see a future where fiat currency becomes obsolete, where the current system of debt slavery vanishes and where Basic Universal Income becomes a standard.
Less jobs that mean nothing to society and more self-development. I think people can add more value to society if you give them that freedom.

I think Bitcoin is a cataclyst for such changes to happen.
1076  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is a hard fork on: October 16, 2017, 11:49:39 AM
A hard fork is a software upgrade that introduces a new rule to the network that isn't compatible with the older software. You can think of a hard fork as an expansion of the rules. A new rule that allows block size to be 2MB instead of 1MB would require a hard fork.

Could you please explain how can this affects the market price?

I'm not very familiar with BCH hardfork, but it is obvious that people are going to withdraw their funds from altcoins (leaving them to drop) to put everything in BTC as to get as much of the new coin as possible (free money). So BTC price increases whilst all other coins find a decrease. Only more established coins like ETH can potentially withstand this.

I think and this shouldn't be taken as final. That during the actuall fork BTC price dropped significantly and made a recovery in the days/weeks after.
Most likely this is because of that the tokens are received and so people rush to buy up the altcoins they left behind for a cheaper price.
You can also take a look at marketcap history to see what happened before and after the last hardfork.

IMO hardforks are a bit of a shame to witness as it is essentially a community split. Especially since BTC is still rooting itself in the world it also sparks confusion to newcomers.
It can be intimidating especially when you try to get into BTC during a hardfork since you don't know what everyone is talking about.
1077  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Electroneum, going to invest what's your thoughts? on: October 15, 2017, 09:54:11 PM
Hi All,

I'm hoping to invest $100 dollars into electroneum as I believe this coin is going to pump rapidly when its launched into the exchanges.

What are your thoughts? What's your price prediction on release and in the near future?

Thanks

I wouldn't be so sure about pricepump, electroneum has huge comission bounty's for referrals and bonusses on purchases. I'm not advising against participating but there might be a solid dump of investors looking for an ROI. I will be holding it hoping it becomes somewhat succesfull.
1078  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: My Perspective on Electroneum on: October 15, 2017, 09:27:27 PM
I'm too curious and suspicious about the over hyped Electroneum ICO. Good things doesn't require a large advertising. But its time that will make everything clear.

Hype comes mostly from the fact that people are icentivized to share it trough comissions over purchases by referrals aswell as that everyone hopes that more people = more profit.

But advertising and marketing is important, there are allot of projects that are fantastic (afterschool for example) but fail because there's a lack of exposure. Afterschool did something about it though and they're ICO is a succes now. It is a solid project with a committed team that really wants to mean something out of their own experience in the industry they're involved.

Advertisement is HUGELY important you have no idea how much this affects people. Everyone loves McDonalds right? And thinks Mcdonalds is great? They still advertise.. they want you to think of them else burgerking would appear everywhere and people forget about McD. People also expect commercials.

Netflix is huge aswell but they sure do advertise. Coca Cola is great, they advertise. I can go on and on..
1079  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Newbie question: What is an airdrop and are they worth participating in? on: October 15, 2017, 09:17:39 PM
Its when the devs of a project give away free tokens to attract an audience/community. Some also choose this over ICO's.

They are worth participating since it is essentially free money. But it depends, I don't really participate in aidrops because most of the time its too much of a hassle.
ANN pages that are spammed with people asking questions that are explained in the ANN to which they're posting, downloading wallets, getting my computer rights back from AVG because it sees everything as a virus etc.

Honestly I'd almost invest in it as a form of payment for giving me a really good laugh.
