Fantastic that Norrie won, it's been a great couple of months for us British tennis fans. Smiley

Norrie's career has been very different to Raducanu's, a slow rise up the rankings over the years... but he has had a fantastic 2021, and is closing on 50 victories for the year! He even has a chance now of making the tour finals at the end of the year, particularly with Rafa unlikely to take a spot.

Weird. I haven't heard anything about Boeing forcing their employees "to be injected with deadly spike protein cocktail".
It sounds quite alarming, if true.
Are you sure you're not confusing this with them making employees take the safe and effective Covid vaccine?

I don't think Cristiano Ronaldo has changed anything because Manchester United and Leicester city looked alike in the game from first half uptill second half.
Right now am so pissed at manchester united who could not atleast win Leicester city now that they need the three points very importantly.

I think Man United are overrated, and Ronaldo doesn't address their weaknesses. It's not a surprise that Leicester beat them. I think Man United may struggle to secure a Champions League place this season. And Solskjaer may be a fan favourite from his playing days, but he needs results to start improving, or people may turn against him.
1124  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: October 16, 2021, 04:39:34 PM
I think the winner of the tournament is very likely to come from the bottom half of the draw. Both Tsitsipas and Zverev should beat both Dimitrov and Norrie.

Just yet another reminder - the way to make money is always to bet the opposite way to me Cheesy
Can't believe Tsitsipas and Zverev both lost.
I'm tempted to back Norrie now actually, given the way he dismantled his (higher ranked) opponent in his last match.
1125  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are unvaccinated people purebloods? on: October 16, 2021, 02:35:58 PM
It seems that the description "pure blood" is being used by some unvaccinated people to counter the attempts to force them to conform to an unscientific global policy. The media is attempting to block this, and this is tempting me into adopting the description. What do you guys think about it?

If I had to distill my thoughts on people describing themselves as 'pure blood' into a single word, I'd probably go with: 'moronic'.

Also, to which 'unscientific' policy are you referring? Does this by any chance relate to the created-by-science, proven-by-science Covid vaccines?
1126  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The vaccination issue is not bipolar on: October 15, 2021, 01:07:33 PM
Vaccines should be used to prevent infection, and not as a cure.

That's what they're used for, yes. They're preventative. It's even in the official guidance: "Do not attend your vaccine appointment if you feel unwell with symptoms of coronavirus."

more and more evidence appears to confirm that it is not protecting most people.

Where is this evidence, though?
The vaccines aren't 100% effective, and protection wanes over time... neither of these things are in dispute. But I've not seen any evidence that the vaccines don't protect most people. You need to give sources and numbers, otherwise it may as well be a BADecker post.

It really has been a tournament of upsets but still on the mens side #2 and #3 seeds are yet to play
their Q-finals.

I think the winner of the tournament is very likely to come from the bottom half of the draw. Both Tsitsipas and Zverev should beat both Dimitrov and Norrie.
The best chance Dimitrov or Norrie has really is if Tsitsipas and Zverev face each other in the semi and play a long, exhausting match so they're not 100% fresh for the final... but this is not so likely in a best of 3 sets match. If it was a slam and best of 5 sets, it might have more of an effect.

It is a requirement by the law. All players in Spain need to have release clauses inserted into their contracts due to some kind of work legislative.

A lot of players have extremely high clauses - the clubs know they cannot be triggered and are protecting themselves like that.

Barcelona is extremely careful after Neymar's case, whose clause was put to 200 million - also so that no one can trigger it (it was unimaginable when he signed the contract) - but PSG did a few years later.

Thanks, that explains it. I thought it seemed bizarre thinking that someone would actually trigger it, and it must just be a PR stunt. I hadn't realised it was a legal requirement. This makes perfect sense now. Although it does seem almost like they're exploiting a legal loophole a bit... if a fee is going to be set at such a level that it will never be triggered, then it can't practically be considered a fee at all. Although as you say, who knows, no-one ever thought Neymar's would get triggered.
1129  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: October 14, 2021, 03:26:07 PM
I've just seen that Pedri has signed a new contract with Barca. The release clause? 1 billion Euros. I know Barca need a cash injection, but that's absolutely crazy. It should put him beyond the reach of even PSG and Man City... in which case, what's the point of even having the clause? Presumably Pedri's agent believes that someone somewhere would actually consider paying up such an amount. Or is it just a PR exercise, they have no belief that anyone would ever trigger it, and it's purely about making news, and saying "look how good he is, he's worth a billion!"?

I think a lot of people are losing bets because of all these upsets.

There are some upsets, but the main thing I think is that we don't have the dominant stars anymore. We have been used to it for years, where Djokovic/Federer/Nadal always win on the men's side, and Serena always wins on the women's side. That time is going now, and in tournaments that don't have these all-time greats playing at their peak, the favourites are not such huge favourites as we are used to. We think because they are favourites, they will certainly win, but it's just not the case, because there is not that supreme dominance. The unpredictability makes it interesting, but it's difficult for betting.

Since it was announced that he is going to be an Alfa Romeo driver as of the next season, he has collected more points than Hamilton and Verstappen.

Bottas : 51 pts
Verstappen : 36 pts
Hamilton : 35 pts

EZ game for him, this statistic is useless Cheesy.

On time Hamilton and Verstappen collided for 0 points in the race for both.

And both of them got also a penalty with -20 position for Max and (for now) -10 for Hamilton.

That's exactly what I was going to say!

it is not easy to come-back after break and surgery, and I would like to see Murray lifting some trophy, even on smaller tournament, he is obviously a fighter

Yes, he's a fighter and he's hugely talented. He was also briefly ranked #1 and unbeatable for a good few months just before his injury. In any other era (or just without Djokovic beating him every time in the Australian Open final), he would be in double figures for slam titles.
I'm not convinced he will ever get back to his best, but he will keep trying, and he is at least able to give the top players a decent match now, which wasn't the case when he first came back. I hope he continues to improve, but I think it's unlikely he'll win another big title.
1133  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: October 13, 2021, 02:05:25 PM
Bottas will fade into obscurity at Alfa, how long did Bottas get a contract, after that will be the end of career.

It must be really difficult for drivers who are in a top car, but then get moved to a car that's further back on the grid. I don't know how they maintain their motivation. Bottas will be an example next season, but it happens plenty of times. Vettel is perhaps the most notable of the current drivers, or maybe Alonso. It must be frustrating for these drivers to see worse drivers overtaking them simply because they have better cars. Of course we can say that the best drivers will always gravitate to the best teams, but it isn't always the case because with only 2 drivers per team, and multi-year contracts, it's rare that a space opens up.

let’s hear all your thoughts from a betting perspective.

One thing I never bet on is fastest lap, because it's rarely given to the driver who is actually the fastest. Often anyone who's in the top 10 and has a 20 second gap to the next driver will gamble with a late stop, and use the combination of fresh tyres and an empty fuel tank to go for the extra point. I suppose it does add a bit to the race, but they should really rename it, as 'fastest lap' suggests fastest driver, which is often not the case at all... because the fastest driver is at the front, not willing to gamble throwing 25 points away on a dodgy pit stop even if they have a decent gap to 2nd place.

Perez vs Hamilton fight there was something awesome to watch as well

In general the second drivers haven't been good enough this year. It's been all Hamilton vs Verstappen. If you have two teams fighting for the title, then the performance of the second driver is crucial. Bottas should be taking points off Verstappen every time it's a circuit where Mercedes dominate, and Perez should be doing the same to Hamilton every time it's a Red Bull circuit. Plus, at every track the second driver should be able to cover off any potential undercut by the #1 driver of the opposing team. But it was nice this time that both second drivers played a valuable role.

I don't see any point in extending this discussion; we're not getting anywhere, and are unlikely to reach consensus on even the tiniest detail. When I read your posts, I just see misguided nonsense or outright idiocy, and I'm sure you feel the same way about facts mine.

This could be a serious contender for the stupidest thread on Bitcointalk now that the flat earth one is locked.

It's either this one, or "The Guy who broke the system!", who "serves it up to Einstein, Newton and the holy grail Gravity".
1138  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The vaccination issue is not bipolar on: October 12, 2021, 07:10:48 AM
4.5 million people have died from Covid so far. A vaccine might be a good idea.
How much is it in relative %? Not much, hm?
The maths is quite straightforward. If you're incapable of calculating, it's about 1 in 1,750 people globally. And rising.

A vaccine might not be a good idea, when we consider all cons, including fact, that nobody knows if it will work just a bit to future mutations.
This thing solves our current problem. But it might not solve future problems, so let's do nothing instead. Brilliant.  Roll Eyes

it must be very depressing, when someone shoot with your own weapon, isn't it?
Are you suggesting that you've won some argument? I can't see that you've even managed to make a valid point yet.

anti-waxers, considering them as responsible
Anti-vaxxers contribute to the spread of the virus, help to keep it in circulation, and help to create new variants. Yes, of course. This is not controversial.

but you are angry when someone talk about consequences of action for pro-waxers and you considere discussion as finished. Isn't this behaviour strange? Doesn't we call it hypocritical? Do you even try to thing how could other people who lost their jobs and bussiness feel and live because of your action?
I'm irritated with you because I find your position morally indefensible. 4.5 million people have died, and this number would be far higher without lockdowns, and of course without vaccination. How many people have died because their business lost some profit? No need for exact figures, just give the answer to the nearest million.

There are huge, independent datasets from most countries in the world. And not just from governments, but also from universities and professional bodies. Do you really think this is all fake? Why would it be?
Because of money and power like always.
You are outraged not that millions have died, but that some people have lost profit. And yet you won't accept data from anywhere, because you think it's all motivated by money. "Doesn't we call it hypocritical?"

I have no data, because I didn't do any research
Really? Because that's not coming across at all.  Roll Eyes

Oh the brigade is on on force
I do find it quite alarming that you believe this stuff.

he serves it up to Einstein, Newton and the holy grail Gravity.
I just wonder, what's your criterion for accepting something as fact? You can't believe everything that is anti-science, surely? You really don't believe in gravity? And how can it be possible to believe in magnetism, but not in Einstein's relativity? Magnetism is relativistic. How could it work if there were a privileged reference frame? I'm assuming that you have at least a batchelor's degree in physics to understand the basics, otherwise you're simply arguing from a position of faith.
1140  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Guy who broke the system! on: October 11, 2021, 03:19:53 PM
And no the whole point is not 1+1≠2 he serves it up to Einstein, Newton and the holy grail Gravity.
Well, if the first few minutes of him serving it up are representative of the rest of the video, his arguments are, to put it kindly, not especially compelling.

I'm not prepared to watch the full hour of this idiocy, but the first comment below the video suggests that it does continue in the same vein...

Ok, this is stupid so far, one magnet yes, like if you have a glass thats half full of water and you fill it with water do you have two waters?  Every Iron atom, in a magnet is aligned in such a way as to create the two poles.  The infinity thing is also ridiculous, infinity is just a symbol, the shape itself has no mathematical value, the 720 degree's have nothing to do with nothing.  and what are these loops he's talking about?  A magnetic field, assuming thats what he's talking about, wont form loops like that try it at home.  and what does infinity have to do with magnetics?  and what the hell does any of this stuff have to do with pi?   Even his graph is wrong, C is a constant, its the speed of light.  If you were to graph like that then C would remain the same, and the line would go strait up from the number he wrote.  To graph it properly you would have to have E on one axis and M on the other.  How does a magnet, that obviously has a mass equate to 0 mass? And the last part of this i can stand listening to, if we have established that the magnet has mass, then its not 0 x c xc (speed of light squared), its the mass of the magnet x c squared, which gives you a measurement for E......
