Those other "shit coins" use algos like X11, X13, X15, JHA, SHA3 Keccak.  The devs got lazy here and chose SHA256.  As we all know, there is over 1000PH of hash power available in ASICs and ASIC farms.  ASIC farms have become unrofitable with the drop in BTC price.  Why not switch to a new coin that is 100% hype and no substance, mine it like crazy, and then sell quickly?

If the devs were serious about succeeding, they would have used another ASIC free algo, like Keccak, or X15.

They did not do their proper testing on Testnet prior to launch, or they would have found that their retargeting does not scale up.

If the main purpose of this huge hash attack is just to mine it and dump it for profit, sure I can see the point about the incompetence of the choices made in the setup of the coin to prevent this.

However if there is some political point trying to be made here by an entity mass instamining the coins to punish the foundation here, I don't see their POV. If this particular entity think Bitseeds is a scam, how is harvesting 900k coins, dumping them on the market and making off with the BTC going to rectify that? That just makes one thief stealing from another.

Now if they took those 900k coins and DONATED them DIRECTLY to the Rainforest Foundation and kept them out of the hands of greedy speculators, that I could respect a little more.

If whoever was behind this and is reading this really wants to do the right thing, prove it by doing something positive with the coins instead of just enriching yourself and pretending you're a white knight.

He already pulled this drama stunt last year, he quit Doge because it was a "cult", now he is out attention whoring again.
583  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Jackson Palmer thinks you are all "white libertarian bros" on: April 24, 2015, 02:33:41 PM
Fact is: the community is very white male dominated

Actually the crypto world is dominated by Han Chinese, not white males.

Yes this western speaking forum may be dominated by white males, but so is the tech industry as a whole. Instead of whining about it people like Palmer should be doing more community outreach into urban areas to recruit minorities into the computer culture but the liberal philosophy is to just blame everyone else for their grievances and engage in self hatred.

and there are a lot of anarcho-libertarian beliefs caught up in crypto which many of us really don't agree with. He's no dummy.

So why are you in crypto anyway? It is the exact opposite of big government Keynesian economics where you just solve economic problems through more inflation and paying off debt with debt. What I find strange too is how many Marxists there are in the crypto community around here yet I can't find any connection as to how Bitcoin can bring about a communist world. How can workers own the means of a decentralized production world?

Apr 19 11:48:00 <&Cogburn> This is consensus via mining.

And Bryce is wrong on that as well.

But I don't like a few increasingly centralized miners dictating what can and can't be destroyed anymore than I like the government doing the same.

Let the free market of buyers and traders decide whether they want to buy it or not.
585  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Unlocked Thread!][ANN][BITS] BitSeeds - A Currency that Grows! on: April 24, 2015, 02:19:17 PM
As much as I personally dislike Bryce, how petty do you have to be to turn a 1/3rd of Bitcoins hash rate over to try and kill a charity coin?  Out of all the cookie cutter scam coins that pop up week after week on here this is what they choose to attack? I prefer the market decide what they like or don't like, not outright vandalism.

Sounds like "the market" did tell us what they don't like, with their blast of hash.

1 or a few guys conspiring with huge ASIC farms are not exactly "the market".

I guess you liked the logo of bitseed.org so much, you copied it?

Really I don't like bryce at all but you're grasping at straws dude, it's not like generic fonts and a leaf aren't exactly used all over the place, I say this as a graphic designer

588  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Unlocked Thread!][ANN][BITS] BitSeeds - A Currency that Grows! on: April 23, 2015, 10:15:02 PM
What is the issue with the chain exactly?
589  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GAW / Josh Garza discussion. Paycoin XPY CoinStand Mineral. ALWAYS MAKE MONEY :) on: April 23, 2015, 07:40:54 PM
We've been pursuing legal options against ViK at Badbitcoin.org and asked our friends at a three letter organization for help in contacting him.

We have since learned... he is a she.

She is employed by GAW Miners as a "Marketing Coordinator".

I think Garza is a crook and hope Paycoin goes down but I dislike how Coinfire is playing Batman by working with government agencies who would love to crack down on ALL crypto and are finding their excuse in Garza's operations.

Memo to coinfire, You're not real journalists and you certainly aren't real cops.

Any word on the problems with the chain and the market opening back up?
591  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litcoin at $1.42 on: April 23, 2015, 02:11:40 PM
Litecoin will die because nothing is being done to promote it to the general public

I mean look at this website

https://litecoin.org

It stills says copyright 2014, its cold and sterile, the average person wouldn't give more than a 2 second look at it.

Compare it to ubuntu.com which manages to wrap a open source OS into something more friendly and inviting, i.e less "nerdlike".
592  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Unlocked Thread!][ANN][BITS] BitSeeds - A Currency that Grows! on: April 23, 2015, 01:03:15 PM
@dev

So you are planting 100 million trees now?

Ah yeah and btw:
You get 10 Million coins interest in the first year... other coins in public arena will be around 3million and creating 300k interest. So after 1 year only your interest of 10% of the 100 mln will be more than 70% of the supply in circulation. (total coins minus the 100mln fund).
You probably were too stoned when writing the ann to realize that selling 70% of coins in circulation 1 year from now will kill the cap of course no matter how you put it.

This coin is designed to be worthless. Basic maths and economics about the specs/fundamentals don't add up. I don't see this working out.

I wonder who you plan on selling to because i don't see a possible buyer for this.

Did you not read that the 10% interest will be sold exclusively to donors? Yes this inflation would be a major concern if it were the typical kids around here dumping their coins to buy a video game but most likely these will be prominent individuals or businesses who will be foreign to cryptocurrency and will likely not even sell them for a good long while if ever.
593  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official BitBay Thread |Smart Contracts Wallet UPDATE|Decentralized Marketplace on: April 23, 2015, 04:19:50 AM
Some people want to buy cheap coins? Bitbay is now less than 100 , why not buy?
 Grin

Agree. People are sometimes very dull and not so smart.

Also think about this, if you believed in your hear of hearts pegging can work, why on earth would you pump the price and not accumulate if you were a whale?
594  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Unlocked Thread!][ANN][BITS] BitSeeds - A Currency that Grows! on: April 22, 2015, 07:03:57 PM
Is it normal for transactions to be slow? I know its based off Bitcoin but have had one transaction sitting now over 2 hours without a single confirm.
Make sure you're updated to the proper wallet.

I am on the latest, they are slow on the block explorer as well. The confirmations are just taking forever.

Bryce Weiner no longer works for Blocktech due to their unethical conduct.

There is so much wrong with this statement I can't even.

What happened? Never gotten a story from either party why there was a split.

http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitseeds/

i don't see supply available right now

Looks like CMC has a hard time calculating supply.

I'm curious whether CMC will calculate the supply with the premine.
598  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ARCHCOIN scam - sell this coin on: April 21, 2015, 11:31:08 PM
Actually I heard Architect degenerately gambled away most of the ICO on alts and Okcoin, much like Drak probably did with his Via money. But i'll leave it at that.

Ask Apple/Blackberry why Chinese phones are winning in Nigeria  Grin

Heck i'm an American and my Uncle bought a Huawei Windows phone off Amazon for just $100 before he went to go work in Brazil and it's a slick little device, makes me want to drop my expensive iPhone plan.

It's something but I think a lot of people are buying into an exciting idea without realizing the vast majority of remittance in Africa is monopolized by the communications providers exactly because they have a direct platform for education. There is also the issue of hiring agents to act as intermediary moneychangers -- otherwise the same populations are depending on the same exploitative merchants they use now to convert money, and then carrying out remittance via Bitstake. Which isn't much of a value proposition. Without commentary on these issues it's hard to gauge where the developers are at, in reality.

For what it's worth there is only one other Bitcoin exchange in Nigeria. Is this a brand new market that will be hard to break into? Of course, but with great risk comes great reward. I think the remittance market though is so huge that if even a small percentage of people use Bitstake it could be potentially lucrative.
