2041  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Namecoin attack threat - Please withdraw your Namecoins ASAP on: September 13, 2011, 10:28:29 PM
I've just approved a bet on the success of the attack:
http://betsofbitco.in/item?id=101

Whats the biggest bet you are willing to accept?

Yeah that would make sense bet on the game with patriot vs greenbacks and then make sure you are betting with the head coach of the patriots on who is going to win the game.

lol

Also, one of conditions for bounty projects (which GG will traditionally have, stand by for list) will be that they are made open-source, so that everyone can benefit from them

a wonderful laundry service that guarantees 100% squeaky clean GeistGeld (mined, no history attached)

Eh ?

So instead of being open and telling people about your 7 mil pre-mined coins, you expect people to deduce that you mined some coins by the fact that you said "bounty" and using "100% squeaky clean" coins. Well, bounty coins can be mined after the coin has been published. And 100% squeaky clean coins can be mined afterwards for your laundry also. It doesn't necessarily mean you had to pre-mine them. But that's besides the point. You purposely did not mention that you pre-mined 7 million coins because you knew people would not mine your coins if you did that. Tell me that's not true.

I don't doubt that you have good intentions with those 7 mil pre-mined coins. But hiding information is not a good way to go about it and it definitely hurt the trust people have in you and your coins now.

+1 Agreed. Lolcust needs to setup a circle of trust with community members to hold those 7,000,000 coins in a decentralized manner.

I trust him but what's to say that he gets pissed off like coinhunter and decides to do something rash?

Eh ?

I suggest you create a set of board members who will hold each an equal amount of those 7 million for bounties so that there is accountability.

Say you had like 10 people with each 700,000 GG and they were reputable in the community. I think users of GG would be more apt to want to put trust in this project.

Here's your first post. Now explain how you can conveniently "forget" to mention this important thing about 7 million pre-mined coins.
I mean I'm ok with pre-mined used to benefit a coin with bounties and the laundry idea. And 7 million might be a bit excessive. But not mentioning it before you got people to mine your coin is unacceptable.

Good point. Where did you say anything about 7 million premined coins?

You just said "bounties".

As I indicated it will take the network at least 93 days to generate 7million coins.

You think 3 months head-start is more than enough time to get things in place?

But i'm not trying to troll I'm just wanting answers like coblee.
2045  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who is more arrogant? BitcoinEXpress or CoinHunter? on: September 13, 2011, 08:05:19 PM
A lot of bickering going on in here.

More mining less complaining/bitching please.

Tell me this. What's to stop you from dumping them on the exchange when one does come along?

The fact that I will earn, at most, a grand 'o bucks in bitcoin, while instead I could use the Superfund as bounties (or convert small fractions into bitcoins to pay folks who don't like being paid in Geist) to make Geist better, implement optimizations that will prevent it from choking to death on its block-speed and c00l tricks like Contracts, hidden transactions and shit-whatnot, make my laundry, and insure a steady income from helping simple Joe Sixpack Bitcoinlaunderer   launder dirty bitcoins via "DirtyBTC->GG->LolcustLaundry->squeaky-clean GG->Squeaky-clean BTC (from a different exchange)" scheme ?

I could earn a grand o'buck by smuggling cellphones into Belarus.

What I want is to take a stab at viable alt-chain, with possibility of stable (if small) completely automated income via provision of much required community service Cheesy

Not everyone is a dim short-term maximizer, dude.

This is starting to sound like the ixcoin story all over again...

Only with actual, you know, differences, and actual benefit to community (which has already manifested in the form of Timetraveler-eviction patch)
7 million premined coins in a single block? How many blocks did u get?

1 worth 7 mil, and 200 worth 7. You see, Multicoin code allows to put X into first block, and then apply a different ruleset to the rest. Neat feat.

I have given away every single Geist in the latter 200 blocks (to which any subsequent Block-exploration will trivially attest)

You bring up valid points.

There are major difference and improvements yes.

Who did you give the 200 blocks to?
2047  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MOONCO.IN BACK UP!!! on: September 13, 2011, 08:00:26 PM
The fact is you were WRONG.. you claimed mr_moon ran off with all our money, and only you were wise enough to see it. No use crying about it now, YOU WERE WRONG.

and you are also wrong about solid coin and the kill switch but what ever. And of course anything can be theoretically exploited before you know wtf it is. "lets not forget the bitcoin new encrypt your wallet feature can be exploited and people can be held hostage to end up paying money to get the pass to their wallet" see I can do that too.

And yes you are a stupid douche, anyone who attacks a chain, when their is a testnet set up for that very purpose is a stupid douche bag.

Tell you what, you must lost some money when SC tanked huh??

I got 50,000 Version 1 Geist Geld I can send you, post an address! LOL ROFL

LOL send em to me....

2048  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] New alternate cryptocurrency - Geist Geld on: September 13, 2011, 07:56:41 PM
Lolcust exactly how many premined GG coins do you have?
At the rate we have been generating these blocks it would take 93 days just to mine 7,000,000 GG.

That seems like an awfully long head start on bounty coins (over 3 months time at current rates).

2049  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Namecoin attack threat - Please withdraw your Namecoins ASAP on: September 13, 2011, 07:46:30 PM
This place has really gone down hill since IXcoin. It's accelerating to a kind of singularity but one where the man on the street is going the way of the dodo.

I think the next alternate block chain project is going to require licensed mining.

Agreed.
2050  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] New alternate cryptocurrency - Geist Geld on: September 13, 2011, 07:45:20 PM
I have a suspicion that some coins were mined that weren't legitimate. I had my first block orphaned and it containe dover 7 million coins.

Now can someone create a simple block explorer so we can verify the first 1000 blocks to see that no monkey business was done?

Thanks  Wink

The seven millions are legitimate, and are the bounties and laundry fund that I think I mentioned in the first post.

The reasoning behind the sum is the following - geist has neither production drop-off nor upper limit on amount of gg in the chain (well, there sorta is, over a hundred billions, lol) which means no expectation of deflation and thus a lower (compared to other alt-coins) price per unit (when exchanged open)

Thus, I need much more than other coins in terms of bounties.

I also want to organize a "cryptocurrency laundry" that does not suffer from the usual crap of having too little coinage to ensure that you don't get fed your own coins.

After some guesstimations, I've reasoned that I need no less than four millions as buffer for laundry (never to be spent, but instead serve as "clean coin" supply for the laundry while "dirty" coins are accumulated in separate  wallet to eventually become the new buffer, while commission is diverted to yet another laundry) and about a pair of millions for bounties and stuff, so I can more easily persuade competent people to lend their helping hands to the effort.

Then, I proceeded to contemplate how should I organize pre-mining those, since forcing other people to download a crapton of blocks just because I want to start the cleanest e-money laundry of all times would be kinda mean.

I've figured a way of doing so in just one block without ruining the coin's operation via multicoin's inflation trigger thing, thus achieving pre-mining without encumbering the chain with a swarm of Laundry&Bounty Fund blocks
None of that was secret since post one, and BTW those coins are quite "canonical"

Tell me this. What's to stop you from dumping them on the exchange when one does come along?

This is starting to sound like the ixcoin story all over again...

Can any of you explain how is this network really getting shut down and what really happens when it gets restarted.
What if 2+ miners keep the rigs running and people do not download hes "new and improved" client?

Got a new card, now I'm at ~400 mh/s

Still can't get any work in.  Cards will chug away, but even after 10m still at 0/0.  Using poclbm, win7x64, 2.1sdk

I still think I may be doing something wrong... but I can't tell.  So my best guess is 400 is still too low.

Did you do the NTP thing  above ? How many connections ? I've fired up a ghettobox with 250 mhashes some time ago (to test Cosbycoin's complaints of "orphan storm") and it gets an occasional block, though only one so far (GUIminer w poc on Wx64)

Well that would be my problem. The ntp setting wasn't in the config. Thanks.

Oky, sorry for missing it   on first go.

P.S.:
This also nicely confirms that we did, indeed, succeed at evicting timetravellers, lol Smiley

lol back to the future!

The block generation rate appears much more stable. Good work lolcust!

2056  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Geist Geld restart - is it a good idea ? on: September 13, 2011, 05:44:17 PM
Anyone mining this network will likely move on very quickly given that all their blocks will and are getting orphaned.

2057  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Geist Geld restart - is it a good idea ? on: September 13, 2011, 05:39:41 PM
Well for a minute there I had 3 blocks now they are all orphaned.

Lolcust this network is pointless with someone like BitcoinEXpress out there.

2058  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Geist Geld restart - is it a good idea ? on: September 13, 2011, 05:37:51 PM
Moreso why do I have an orphan with an amount of 7,769,999 coins?

Is this a manipulated chain from the start Lolcust?
2059  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Geist Geld restart - is it a good idea ? on: September 13, 2011, 05:35:25 PM
I got one orphaned in 10 minutes.

Obviously bitcoinexpress is on this network.

Once again this is pointless if one person gets 95% of all the blocks.

2060  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Geist Geld restart - is it a good idea ? on: September 13, 2011, 05:33:47 PM
I'm sure you do.
