If a government attacks BTC, depending on which government it is, i would expect the price to jump even if the difficulty is reduced with the reduced number of miners from the country in question, some people would even be willing to pay more per BTC just to piss the government in question

It doesn't necessarily replaces ads, but it can compete with them under some circumstances, each approach to passive money making has it's pros and cons.

If you promise to pay back in BTC i imagine it would be better, paying back in USD will return to the lender less than they lend you, unless you correct for the exchange rate by the time you pay back.
|
|
|
To convert USD to BTC divide the USD value by one of those 3 values (18.55, 19.23 or 16.375), or a value between the min and max; to convert BTC to USD multiply the BTC value by the rate you choose.
Or you want somthing like the "official" exchange rate from 'Gox?

I didn't read the info very carefully nor researched it much, but it seems either there was a misunderstanding and the Mozilla peeps intentionally disabled websockets by default for nothing, or there is some serious security concern in the current specifications and they decided it was safest for everyone to keep it off until the specifications are amended. Either way if you feel confident/lucky you can enable it inside about:config , search for websockets in there

What is the point of holding the translation ransom?
I'm crossing my fingers someone else publishes a translation first and gets the money

How hard it is to "land" a satellite into a decommissioned satellite to pass off as space debri?

Will it go over 50 bucks before the end of the year without going down past 50?

Secondly, another difference favoring Bitcoin mining on AMD GPUs instead of Nvidia's is that the mining algorithm is based on SHA-256, which makes heavy use of the 32-bit integer right rotate operation. ...
... Does ATI cards also got an edge with SHA-512 or would switching to 256's big brother give NVIDIA peeps a better chance at blockfinding?

Would it be possible create a constellation of satellites hosting webservers with some sort of wireless connection to the rest of the Internet, assembled and launched in international waters, so that you could host anything and be immune to any law enforcement entity (short of military action against the satellites)?

People don't usually don't call heavy annoying ads "resource stealers"; the difference between this and "(.)(.) Play Now My Lord" is this won't get in the way of you using the site, and instead of wasting processor cycles it is actually turning them into money.
But obviously, an opt-in/opt-out option would be great, not all advertisement bearing sites offer such an option though. Btw, also offering an option of throttling down i expect would help with getting on the visitors good side.

...
... Ads, as annoying as they may be, are at least providing a service to me as the user/visitor of the site by offering me goods and deals I might have been unaware of. There is absolutely not benefit to me from my participation with this miner.
...
The service this offers is a site unpolluted by ads that can still pay the bills

I added the big version to one of the desktops of my Nokia N900 with the help of the Oculo widget, now i can keep up with the prices of BTC on the go without having to manually go to a site

The issue would be when there are less bitcoins for sale than people wanna exchange for Fijibucks, or vice-versa, sure the government would enforce the price inside it's borders, but people could still go to other countries and try to offer an exchange at better rates than can be achieved inside Fijilandia, then come back inside Fijilandia and do the exchange in the other direction and profit lots.

If i was an advanced alien entity, i would teleport all those people from that area and then carpet bomb the region with radiation fallout so it would be inhabitable for at least 10 thousand years, and if after their time out people insist on misbehaving i would repeat the process, but this time instead of using radiation i would sink the damn land and keep it in the deepest bottom of the ocean until Humanity proves they deserve to get that chunk of rock back.

Taking communism with Bitcoin to such great extremes is self-destructive, if it was made real, the more people that joined Bitcoin the less bitcoins would be worth, and if the rich stop profiting with Bitcoin the network will become less safe
