1441  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blocks and bitcoins? on: June 13, 2011, 12:51:10 PM
The blocks are the components of the block chain, when you mine, you're doing some heavy math with the data of the blockchain trying to find a lucky number (it's way more complicated than how i'm explaining), you download blocks to know where the money is, and when you know the whole story you have the means of trying to create money out of nowhere (if you don't got the whole story others will not approve the result of your mining and you get nothing).

That heavy math and everyone else checking if you didn't cheat to find the lucky number helps making sure people aren't making money for free and also helps ensure once someone spends some money they can't spend that same money again.

The blockchain is like a crazy shaped jigsaw piece, it gets a new shape with each new block, mining is kinda like throwing a bunch of debris in a box with some glue and shaking, then seeing if the resulting piece fits the blockchain; it is easy to see if a new piece fits, but you gotta shake lots of boxes till you finally get somthing out that fits.

I probably made lots of mistakes in this explanation, and missed lots of important details; could someone better at this explain things better please?
1442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin should be calles "digital currency" instead of "virtual currency" on: June 13, 2011, 12:26:46 PM
So you're saying Bitcoin is more real than government issued money?
1443  Economy / Economics / Re: Is there such a thing as absolute value? on: June 13, 2011, 12:25:11 PM
Entropy-coin? Nice!

Hm, converting dollars, gold, carrots etc into a Planck based unit in such a way that their exchange rates are respected without the assistance of arbitrary constants? That does sound like an interesting challenge...

Even though LL tries to get their asses out of the line of fire by saying L$ is just make believe monopoly money, people still trade it back and forth with official government money; what could make that any less real than Bitcoin?
1445  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Eelectrity: How much do you need to pay per KW/H on: June 13, 2011, 11:48:13 AM
I wonder if i get any current from the phone wire even though i don't got a line subscription at the moment...

Also i wonder if i could steal electricity from the phone company with some gizmo hooked to the phone plug leeching the energy while the phone is on the hook...
1446  Economy / Economics / Is there such a thing as absolute value? on: June 13, 2011, 11:44:36 AM
Is there somthing that never changes value, like somthing you could use to evaluate how much a currency is worth at any point in history without being relative to other currencies nor the price of a BigMac nor anything, somthing that has the same (non-zero) value for anyone at any point in history? Or you can't give somthing value without considering how it's value compares to the value of somthing else?

If right now you can only afford bitcents, i could accept that; working with photos is somthing i enjoy doing, and with the stakes being low it would be a nice way to get my feet wet without all the pressure and stuff Smiley

You want a bank to hold your bitcoins? Save your wallet into a flashdrive and put the flashdrive in a safe inside the bank (write down the address(es) in that wallet so you can make deposits without needing to go plug the flashdrive).  To spend those coins, bring a laptop with cellular internet connection (or get a bank that offers WiFi inside the safe), then send the coins you wanna spend from your savings wallet to another wallet you own or directly to the person you wanna pay.

For buying BTC, you don't need to use one of the big exchange services, if you find someone you can trust, just deposit regular money in their bank account and have them send BTC to one of the addresses you own.

I agree, geeks understand virtual is just another type of real, but the general public thinks it's make believe
1450  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Photo touch-up/doctoring service - You choose the price on: June 13, 2011, 11:13:11 AM

1451  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Call for investors. Let's build a huge bitcoin mining DC together. on: June 13, 2011, 11:04:05 AM
Looks interesting, i'll keep an eye on this
1452  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Photo touch-up/doctoring service - You choose the price on: June 13, 2011, 10:40:44 AM
I'll do things like removing/smoothing out wrinkles, zits, eyebags etc, removing people from photos, tunning up scans of old photos so they don't look so aged, replacing backgrounds etc.

You pay me 1 BTC to hire me, and then i'll try to do my best, once i'm satisfied i'll send you the result and you pay me whatever you judge it's worth (please check with me first so i can tell if you if i believe i can do what you want me to do with the photo so i'll not need to send back the 1BTC). Oh, and if after accepting a job i realize it's beyond my skills, don't worry, you will get your 1BTC back,  you can trust me.

Depending on the work, if i judge necessary i'll show you intermediary stages, previews etc to confirm i'm going in the right direction and if you got any suggestions or comments on my approach to fullfililng the request etc.

Any questions, comments, feedback etc?

1454  Economy / Economics / Re: Sh*t just got real... on: June 13, 2011, 10:15:16 AM
Wasn't German news that a while ago fabricated a story about real children being raped inside Second Life or somthing along those lines?
1455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Predict when 1 Bitcoin = $100 on: June 13, 2011, 10:05:34 AM
I'm confident it will reach 100 bucks before the  next worldwide rolling  fireworks party; i dunno exactly when though, could be in just a couple months or it could be around Xmass.

Do you got any firewalls running on that machine?
1457  Local / Português (Portuguese) / Re: Bitcoin Legal on: June 13, 2011, 09:37:04 AM
