Has anyone tried adding 3 stand alone units to one controller?

Yes no problems

Nice to see something different with an 011 Dynamic  Cheesy

The node is running fine. Every time I click start on the miner, the fan starts to spin up for about 0.5 second and then goes back to idle mode. I disconned all the standard units but that changed nothing. Checked all the plugs, green led is is on.

This problem is caused by the RAM and the processor's cache. Do you use an extended ram slot or is it built-in?

If you use an extended ram slot then make sure the power connection is turned off completely. unplug your ram and processor, and wait some minutes it will clear your cash from ram and processor. After that plug everything in properly, it would be better if you plug the ram to a different slot and switch on the Maschine.

Hope everything will be fine if you do that step by step. let me know if the problem is solved or not.

This is an SBC in the Apollo so no removable ram.

...
When I took mine apart to replace the SBC fan it had Bitfury on the chips underneath the hashboard.
Thanks!
No idea why jstefanop is so secretive about info like that but hey - his project, his rules. I do know that BitFury is pretty tight about releasing their datasheets so that may be part of his  Lips sealed

I mean, maybe they didn't obtain pinouts etc. via reverse engineering, but directly from BitFury under NDA. In that case, it might include something like no mention whatsoever anywhere, ever, can be made that you got our chips and datasheets etc.. Just a guess  Wink

But sidehack did mention that some chip manufacturers do indeed agree to give documentation under NDA (which I wouldn't have guessed myself to be honest).

Obviously we are under NDA…can stop our customers from stating the obvious though 😜

I was in two minds whether to say anything. But someone would've done at some point lol.

Once its connected you can use any computer connected to the same local network
145  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New Miner on: August 30, 2021, 09:42:27 PM
You should just be able to hook up power and an ethernet cable and then search for it on your network using an IP scanner. Then you can access via your preferred browser.

Each of our ASICs have ~4k SHA256 engines in them (so ~175k in each Apollo)
Woof! I figured that with today's node sizes there would be a lot more cores per-chip that what was to be had in 2014 but 4k of them? Wowzers!

Btw @jstefanop you're saying 'our ASICs' - do you actually develop your own ASIC chips? Quite interesting since the other guys building home-suited pod miners, GekkoScience, use Bitmain chips.

Not a chance in hell. It cost millions of $$$ to design and produce a mining ASIC chip.
That said it *would* be interesting to know just who's chip you use. eg are they from BM, MicroBt, Canaan, Bitfury, Inosilicon et al?

Heheh, idk - they're so secretive about which chips are used (no mention anywhere, whereas GekkoScience has it openly in shop, bt thread etc.), and this comment (our ASICs) really put the nail in the coffin for me about these being custom chips Cheesy Cheesy

But yeah, last I checked, it also was extremely expensive to have custom chips made.

When I took mine apart to replace the SBC fan it had Bitfury on the chips underneath the hashboard.

So I accidently update the desktop OS and now my apollo won't boot. If I reflash an SD disk, will that solve the problem?

Yea reflash the sd card with a new image. Take out the m.2 drive until after the first boot otherwise you will restnc the whole blockchain. After first boot shut it down put the m.2 back in then start it up.

Questions (happy to tip with $NTBC, NoteBlockChain, just post your address:

1.  Does BTC version allow for multiple pools to be set up ie for fail over? (exists on the LTC version)

2.  Is there a donation option ? (exists on LTC version) or is this being taken automatically on BTC version?

3.  Remote controlling the Raspberry pi4 , can we use VNC viewer? seems SSH is supported natively only. Usually VNC is included with debian versions on Linux.

4.  When node complete (should take 2-3 days), if I shut down, will Node still be in place (will it update blockchain from where left off).

5.  What can we do with Node? Any advantage for newbie or are we just helping the network in the background

Recommendations:
- multiple pools enabled
- allocation of time / hash to different pools
- we can measure performance on pools
- VNC viewer included in FutureBitOS

happy to tip with $NTBC, NoteBlockChain
www.notebc.com

1)  Multiple pools arent available yet but I think the dev team are working on it.

2) No Donation option.

3) The SBC in the Full Unit is an Orange Pi but not sure what flavour of OS its running but I'm sure you could install it. From what I've seen the Dashboard runs through firefox so if you have a viewer installed it should show you that.

4) Node will store all data upto the point at which it was turned off. Then once powered on again it will update from the last known block. So the longer its off the longer it will take to update.

5) Node is just there to help the network for now. I think jstefanop has said you can use various apps etc to utilise the node but not sure how to do any of that myself.

Also its a Mini USB port so not that easy to come by round my way. But I have found a place and ordered some. IF it needs changing I will but I’m hoping its just because my cable is stressed all the time that its given itself a bad connection, which hopefully I’ve resolved.
In the UK try Farnell who are the parent company of Newark in the US https://uk.farnell.com/
Plus, DigiKey also has a UK branch https://www.digikey.co.uk/

Totally forgot about those two *face palm*. If the ones ive ordered turn out to be rubbish I’ll order some from there.

EDIT:-

I'm calling it problem solved now. Had two power outages today due to a dodgy steam iron and both times it came back up and running and is running at 750m V5 just like it used too. To say I'm pleased to have this sorted is an understatement.

EDIT 2:-

Now running what it was originally, 800m V5 getting 1Th  Grin

It could be where the usb connects the board - does your r606 have the notch cut out where the usb plugs in? One of mine had an issue and it was the one without the notch. Sidehack replaced/repaired the board and gave me a case with the notch cut out. I am currently running 4 of these with no issues. What are you selling your pod for @gt

It looks like an issue with the port. My cable always seems to stress upwards. Currently have something wedged in to hold the cable level and it seems to have done the trick. Running 625m no issues. As soon as I take the "wedge" out it starts acting up.

Ive got one with the notch and an orange/beige PCB. Just finished work so going to investigate further, got some replacement ports coming soon so hoping a port replacement will sort it.

Only selling as I'm hoping to grab a couple of Ferrari sticks and only have so much desk real estate to play with. Plus the electricity cost of course. I know im mining at a loss anyway here in the UK but if I can reduce the electricity cost then its obviously better.

I have the Gekko Hub and Fan Stand sitting on the shelf from when I had the Newpacs, so its only the sticks I need.

Also its sidehacks gear so can run it through cgminer and not have any problems mining to the pool I like  Wink

ok so not the notch issue - if it has to be angled up that port is prolly def the issue. good luck at getting it fixed. I think I see yours on ebay its the only one there and its in the UK Smiley

And I agree - love sidehacks gear for sure.

Yea going to take it off ebay for now until im certain its sorted. Just wanted to sell it and give myself time to buy the new sticks. But I'd rather sell good gear than anything with problems (which I thought were resolved  Roll Eyes )

EDIT:

I hopefully optimistic. Took it apart for a closer inspection. Tried the USB cable in it and noticed it had some free movement. Also noticed that on the port itself is some sprung tabs which locate on pockets on the cable. I nudged them down a bit and the cable grips really nicely now. Plugged it all back in and shes on her way upto 700m V5 on the first try!! Just keeping my fingers crossed she stays stable now.

Hi, I'm just getting started.
Not the easiest to set up the BTC version. The LTC Apollo much easier (I have one also).
I seem to be mining on slushpool.
for URL eu.stratum.slushpool.com:3333
I have a user name, but it does not show on slush pool.

QUESTION: on the LTC version I can have multiple pools (great for testing performance; testing set up and spill over)
- BTC version you can only have one pool set up.  Why?

QUESTION: on LTC version it is easy to delete your pool set up and start again
- BTC version I can't delete, the pool seems to be always there on reboot
- seems to be always connected to slush pool so I can't delete my worker on slush pool
- slushpool says [auto] disabled and workername offline under "state" but it is mining ...

Thank you

You need to make sure your username on the apollo matches your username on the pool. you can add a worker extension so.... "username.worker"

To change the pool details I going to assume you havent clicked the "SAVE" button at the top once youve changed it. If you dont it will revert back to the last saved settings.

Ah, okay...... so the issue has been somewhat narrowed.  Unfortunate that a weak connection may be the culprit. Just as a point of reference I had something similar happen a few months back where it would start hashing and then immediately fade to nothing.  Turned out there was too much draw on the one supply I was using although it was the same it had always been.  I changed psu's and "eh voila" it was back.  Still running strong at 738.   As you replied to me on e-Bay I am interested and do have several Newpacs available that are no longer in use if you're interested in a trade/exchange.  Would be great if you could get the pod sorted first of course, ha ha.

Yea the aim is to sort the pod first before sale. Hence the high price aswell. Thanks for th offer of the exchange but I’ve had Newpacs and sold them to get the R606. Now im trying to sell the R606 to get the new ferrari sticks. Basically trading up at each generation.

I was meant to update this. Its got me stumped. Currently running at 600m V5 for the past couple of days without issue. It could well be a problem with the Pi instead. But I don’t know. It works fine when it works. When the issue arose then it would take a couple of power cycles and then it would work fine on stock settings.

I would suggest removing all other sources of interference and working from the bare minimum to start.  Replace the USB cable; they are notorius for failing and causing these types of issues. Try plugging into another processing unit or pc to see if the issue persists.  Eliminate the Pi as an issue before moving on.

Yep tried three different cables all all experienced the same thing. Can’t try another pc as its windoze 10 and an arse.

Coincidentally this evening after knocking my desk, the cable moved and the problem started again. I’m going to take a look at the micro usb socket on the board and see if I can replace it.

Well the issue has returned. Managed to get it to run at 500m V5 for a while, then just starts resetting the Target lower and lower until it just ends in a boot loop kind of thing.

Any ideas anyone?

My guess is you have fallen victim to the temp sensor.  Its a very well known issue so perhaps you should contact whom you purchased from to find out what, if anything, you can do.  Selling it on e-Bay the way it is isn't the solution.

If you can get an answer from your provider then perhaps you can decide which way to proceed; otherwise its rather unscrupulous to pawn it off on on somebody else without providing the above information.

Finally tried out some of the other modes on the Apollos in the last few days.
Had a very delightful and surprising discovery.

In Eco mode....  I was getting 2 th/s @ 76w per th/s
in Balanced mode.. I get  2.5 th/s @ 64w per th/s    Shocked

So, not sure why but balanced mode actually offers better wat per wat performance for me.
Also, it was a more substantial hashrate increase than I expected too, with 25% performance gains over eco.

So, if your out there just chillin on ECO with your miners, I recommend trying out the other settings and seeing what you get.
 Grin Grin Grin

Same here. There isnt much in it between ECO and Balanced. I think ECO was more for keeping noise down. Balanced is the best for me really 2.5Th at 66w Th/s. ECO was around 62w-ish for 2Th.

Thats exactly what I was hoping it would be. Same process just different location to pull from. So the instructions I followed before would still be relevant. When will the new "kano-gekko--cgminer" be ready?

Thanks kano.
