Subscribing and watching. Thanks a lot for this top-level view on a branch of crypto that I don't spend too much time on, but find interesting nonetheless.

Sorry for polluting your thread with ugly fundamentals, but I just took the first harder look at alts again since, well, a few months, and the biggest change I can see is the resurrection of Bytecoin (as evidenced by its market cap).

Can anyone knowledgeable and not overly biased in this matter summarize what went on there? Last time I looked at it, it seemed the consensus was "clumsily obfuscated pre-mine, won't touch with ten foot pole, too bad for the (otherwise) competent devs". Looks like the market changed its mind?

Thanks, glad someone is joining this thread. I'm sure we're gonna have more people in the long run.

The idea of the thread is to check how the sector* "altcoin" is performing in the global cryptocurrencies economy.
At some point, if it isn't (already) dying, the sector should reverse once the rock bottom will be hit and wise/profitable decision will be right under our eyes.

I think it's not polluting the thread if we talk objectively about the fate of an altcoin without shilling it, that's why I like chartism because it's plain fact and market is always right.

* The way I split the sector in industries respectively Altcoin "1.0" & "Crypto 2.0" is questionable, especially the latter. But don't worry it could evolve in the future.

L’inconnu qui a inventé le Bitcoin est nominé pour le prix Nobel d’économie

http://www.presse-citron.net/linconnu-qui-a-invente-le-bitcoin-est-nomine-pour-le-prix-nobel-deconomie/
La presse (et les bitcoiners) sont en mode full retard, Satoshi n'est PAS (encore) nominé. Sa candidature - parmi 3000 autres - n'a été que soumise, c'est tout.

(...) The committee has invited me to nominate someone for the 2016 Prize (...) I am completely serious in suggesting Satoshi Nakamoto for the Prize. The invention of bitcoin -- a digital currency -- is nothing short of revolutionary. (...)

@oda
I'll take some time to read through your posts Smiley
I like being wrong so I can learn.
But.. I know that most financial institutions don't use TA, they stick with FA. I understand how TA works, and I can see the math (engineer here), but unfortunately Bitcoin has a lot of bad TA done, not naming even h&s correctly. TA is all very interesting and I believe it can *help* when trading, but it is not in any way fool-proof.. Actually, there's a lot of fools  Cheesy

I tend to disagree, Bitcoin due to its juvenile and emotional aspects is way more easier to TA than any other markets.
Just zoom out the <2h candles and you'll have very good signals.

However the most over hyped TA geo pattern (like H&S) just sucks. But lines never lies haha.
2093  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 17, 2015, 10:35:07 AM
TA is useless whether the market is rigged or not. It's by chance that your TA turns out correct. It's the fuckin astrology of markets

Guess it's time again to dig out my canned link collection, in response to the claim "TA is just cargo cult / Didn't you know about {strong, weak} efficiency?"...

https://www.cis.upenn.edu/~mkearns/teaching/cis700/lo.pdf <-- Brilliant article. Central claim: Finance is algebraic and numerical math (plus computation), TA is visual, geometric (and largely intuitionistic "algorithms"), hence the gap between the two fields, despite large possible overlap.

# Meta studies
http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=603481
http://www.nber.org/papers/w20592 <-- One of my favorites. They're rather critical of TA, and propose substantially higher statistical thresholds, but also list a few technical factors that seem to be established beyond doubt.

Thx for the list. Interesting.
