3621  Other / Off-topic / Re: Meanwhile in cyprus... on: March 22, 2013, 04:37:11 PM
Unfortunately, the decisions of Eurozone to tax save accounts on Cyprus soil, was just one of the last broken promises that we have seen, since the beginning of the economic malaise in Euroland. Maybe this choice was made to decrease the value of the Eurocurrency to more acceptable levels for domestic export; maybe it was an attempt to tax Russian capitals for Euro-crisis. It does not matter. It was a political decision, while the ECB was primary designed to sustain the stability of the Euro without interferences of policy makers. The idea was that an independent monetary policy would better succeed in building trust in this new currency for the long run. Now "Cyprus" is responsible to drop to the bottom level the confidence of Euro citizen regarding Eurobank System.

How dare you come onto this board and say something logical and sane Tongue

Dank, this is the one and only time I've actually agreed with what you're saying. Even if fluoride wasn't dangerous, there's no need to keep it in water, when it's been proven not to be beneficial when ingested. That's suspicious.

3624  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitBillions New on: March 22, 2013, 05:46:51 AM

They're trying to market something that is free as a revolutionary item. I'm sure this is not done by furrycoat/'charity scammer' siesatsu as even he will not insult our intelligence like this.

What scares me most is if people are actually buying into this.  I don't want to wake up sometime in the next few months and start seeing referrals in sigs for this thing Sad

Sweetheart, I hate to break it to you, but VPN is already a thing.  If privacy is the only upside to everything already existing being repackaged into a pyramid, you're not making it look very lucrative.

Tell you what.  I'll strike you a deal.  Provide all of this for free, for everyone, lose the foundation members, lose membership period.  Ask for donations without requiring donations (justify it as you please, it is a fee)  Hire a web designer, create an elegant website, state clearly what you're doing and how you're going to do it (I'm talking about technical details, not 'Oh, first we're going through this phase, and then this phase')  Then I will take back everything I said and consider BitBillions something more than a get-rich-quick scheme.

But it won't happen.  The name itself is just all wrong.  What you're trying to promote is not new technology, else your name would be, I dunno, BitCloud, or something.  If you weren't trying to run a ponzi, and instead trying to create a wonderful, new thing, you wouldn't have money on your mind.  This is not how people normally operate.  We, human beings, do not create with the expectancy of payment (and anyone who says they do hasn't created anything worth mentioning.)  Your intentions are transparent and your greed is overwhelming.

Whoa, Bitcoin isn't a currency?

Weird.  I've been buying stuff with air this whole time, apparently.  Tongue
3627  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US plan calls for more scanning of private Web traffic, email on: March 22, 2013, 05:18:24 AM
If they didn't know about potential security threats before now, how do they come to the conclusion that invading more privacy will reveal more information?  You can't know what you don't know, so you have to know what you don't know.  With this logic, they can take away any privacy they please.

This is another attack on the American people, and an attack on anyone who interacts with them.  This has nothing to do with security and everything to do with an out of control government.

The Venus Project is an interesting take on a future society.
Checkout the Zeitgeist Movement for ideas to live within the Venus Project ideals.

This!  I'm actually a big fan of it Grin
3630  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will do to the banks, what email did to the post office. True or false? on: March 22, 2013, 05:00:12 AM
Post office was not killed by email because it was subsidized by printed fiat money. Bitcoin will kill fiat, so the postal office won't be subsidized, so it would need either to shut down or provide a competitive service at higher prices. Since much less number of letters would be sent over for fair high prices, the total amount of paper mail will be greatly reduced. And digital contracts will replace the need to transfer paper certificates and ink signatures.

Sounds like a win-win to me.  Paper is going out the window; it takes too long to move around, and can get quite heavy if you have a lot of writing.  I can't remember the last time I mailed a letter...

At best, the postal office would stick around simply to deliver packages.  I'm okay with that, as long as it stops being subsidized.
3631  Other / Off-topic / Re: Pocket Change Brings Its Rewards-Focused Virtual Currency To iOS on: March 22, 2013, 04:46:27 AM
Lets you spend reward points in shops, could be interesting if it grows. Wouldn't be able to do it without fees but if they're on reward points and not the price then the consumer never has to know about them.

Ahh, I gotcha.  Use the app, get some rewards; I'm assuming this is supposed to be incentive for the consumer to purchase the app, kind of like Coke Rewards, since the developer doesn't get anything extra when it's used.

3633  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The end of government is rapidly approaching, due to crypto-currency on: March 22, 2013, 04:35:51 AM
well because their are still exceptions, their are still companies that will seek to hold monopolies or exploit the poor or damage the planet for profit, we will still overfish and cut down forests, the rich will still get preferential treatment, So anarcho-capitalism won't solve all of our problems, the dark side of capitalism has bought our elected representatives and is what is doing the damage aforementioned,

I don't know what the solution is but I'm willing to give Anarcho-capitalism a try, (has to be better than fascism that we have now) but ultimately people naturally like to be in groups and these groups compete so eventually you probably end up with one group using force, breaking its principles and morals and the same shit over again.

3634  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there a way for me to accept credit cards on my site through a third part pro on: March 22, 2013, 04:08:53 AM
Nothing like that, but I believe bitpay allows that service the other way around Tongue
3635  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A pictorial guide of Bitcoin? (interest check) on: March 22, 2013, 04:08:15 AM
That would probably help alot; AFAIK, there aren't many comprehensive guides about the inner workings of Bitcoin that are made for the absolute beginner.

I mean, not that there's anything wrong with reading.  But pictures can make it a whole lot more understandable.
3636  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-03-21 National Review "How Washington Plans to Regulate Your Bitcoins" on: March 22, 2013, 03:59:19 AM

if you were to buy this man's house for 6,750 bitcoins like he's asked for,

The house in question is in Alberta, Canada, so if Washington somehow finds a way to insert itself into the transaction it would be, umm, an interesting development.

Indeed. Likely scenario: Canadian citizen buys house off another Canadian citizen, in Canada, with Bitcoins. No foreign government intervention is permitted under Canadian law!

U.S. intervenes anyway, both citizens are unlawfully extradited to the U.S. in the name of the war on terror.

And then they both get evaporated by drones Tongue

not just a couple of weeks ago I remember seeing the news bragging about how we were all doing fantastically well and on the way to a recovery >_>

Yeaaaah they're trying hard to turn the other cheek, eh?  I keep hearing advertisements that the economy is finally picking up and everyone should run to get loans to start businesses at this bank or that bank.

3638  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin is WAY too confusing for the average person on: March 22, 2013, 03:54:01 AM
BitCoin is confusing, because the average user doesn't understand the banking structure that they take for granted. Cheesy

Yes.  Yes!!

3639  Economy / Economics / Re: Cyprus -> Bitcoin Will Go Super-High on: March 22, 2013, 03:52:30 AM
The proposal didn't go through the parliament of Cyprus.

Doesn't matter. People have realized the possibility of such theft. That's going to be sufficiently spreading fear.

Exactly.  It's like SOPA and its brothers and sisters.  Government attempts to pass it once, they're going to keep trying, under different names and different circumstances, until they get their way.  Not as if the first time a society says "No, we don't want this to happen, thank you very much" ever mattered much to autonomy.

You can only kick the can down the road until there's nowhere left to kick it.  Then you've got a long hike home.
