Maybe, but then it wouldn't be the all bells and whistles "trust no-one currency" would it?
It must be paranoid by design ... oblivious to the human designer's subjective assessment of trust needed to function.
You're right But that blockchain is a pain to download, and having to catch up every day takes a while. Some find it appropriate to sacrifice that "trust no-one" stasis for convenience.

And adding to that people arguing for taxes will use the old cliche of "If we stopped paying the government taxes then we wouldn't have any roads and people would die on the street".
That's one of their only arguments; along with, "Everybody has to pay taxes, so you have to pay them, too." Because apparently, everyone loves to wallow in their own shit, and if you don't force everyone to pay for better roads, no roads will ever be built. To support taxation is to support violence and the killing of innocent people. Anyone who understands this, completely understands this, and still supports such a system, lacks empathy; you mas as well call yourself a robot, a sociopath, someone who would kill if someone with a shiny badge walked in and said it was okay. Yet we call ourselves "civilized". We're still living as the Egyptians did; the circumstances are better, but the pyramids are still there. Good OP Though I do 'agree' (loosely) with taxes, though I want to 'choose' what I pay my taxes for and who to. In my thoughts this isn't the definition of taxes, it's payment for services rendered. Taxes is just enforced robbery. I don't want to be thrown in prison because I refuse to support wars that banksters are always starting for their bit for world domination.. I don't want to pay taxes for the police to brutalise or intimidate people, I don't want to pay taxes for the 'system' to throw me into prison.. But I don't mind 'donating' to health care for the elderly, or for better education (not the retarded system education), or for child nursery support for people that need it, and more nurses, more teachers... I want the freedom to choose .. Not the promise of prison if I don't give up my money .. Answer - Decentralized government That's commonly referred to as Anarchism And we are in complete agreement.

No need to back up the blockchain, there are already plenty of copies around the world. You should really make the note that only the blockchain copy on your machine has been validated by your own machine .... ... why are guys going to such lengths to obfuscate the dangers of not running your own full node I wonder? Not everyone is quite as paranoid

It's all about the taxes. Which is why I don't understand people who advocate taxation. The money goes in, pays a whole lot of paychecks, gets funneled into war, gets funneled into SS, and then when our roads aren't being built, we assume we need to throw more money into the system so the government can outsource labor to build the roads.
Meanwhile, my poor wall has a hole in it, and the plaster is beginning to fuse with my skin.

"Bitcoin is not going to solve all our problems." -- Some Bitcointalk user or another I dunno whoever it is
The problem isn't Bitcoin. The problem is the State. Deny the State and the events you described will not ensue. Bitcoin is like any other tool, and anyone can use it. Though it is resistant, it's not impenetrable. It's a step in the right direction, but like the Internet, it needs to be protected, until we can overthrow the meat grinder.

Oh no; you mean the existence of pesos, rubles and yen mean "currency" (aka the dollar) can be hyperinflated in substance? Oh, and did I mention, my grocer doesn't take any of those alt-currencies; not even the euro!! Gotta be some kind of conspiracy. Silliness aside, if nobody accepts those currencies as tender, they don't work. Nobody wants to use 100 different altcoins. We're all going to default to a few, and since this is the Internet, we're literally ALL going to default to a few--not just Americans all defaulting to the dollar, not just all Japs defaulting to the yen, but anyone and everyone coming together and using the same ones. OTOH, once a dev releases wallet software which can safely store all the coins in one app, and displays the rates at which each coin translate into how much they're worth in Bitcoin, then we can use pretty much any coin we personally prefer. I can use Bitcoin, Litecoin, Terracoin, Peepeecoin, all conveniently located in the same (secure) wallet. That is, as long as a coin is popular enough to have market data

Raspberry Pi is smaller, but not quite as powerful. I kinda want one but I kinda don't; just to toy with, but I already have a desktop and a lappie, so it's kinda overkill.

I predict Bitcoin or its alternatives will take over the world as the #1 currency of choice. Therefor, mass adoption will ensue, and the price for a single Bitcoin will rise to high enough levels to feed and clothe you for the rest of your life--that is, if Bitcoin remains the king of crypto-currencies.
So if you think this is a bubble, just wait ten years from now, and saying to yourself, "We thought that was a bubble?!"

The sooner this happens, the better, IMO.

TOR was created by "them", and it still gets bad press and misconceptions by the general public...
TOR is one thing. Getting between America and its profits is high treason; nobody working directly beneath them would dare introduce a new currency.
