Where did slave owners get the power to force people to pick cotton without their consent?

They consented themselves Grin  And the trend hasn't changed as far as I've seen.

4006  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Pizza for ripples? on: February 22, 2013, 08:13:42 PM
Kinda funny Grin  Since everyone on this forum got some ripples for free, I don't think they're going to be worth much.  Considering they plan on continuing to release 50 bil ripples, it probably isn't going to be worth much...ever.
4007  Other / Off-topic / Re: Opinions needed on: February 22, 2013, 08:01:51 PM
Something real quick,

no should be no.

were should be where

its should be it's

"no subscription payments" should have a semi-colon ";" instead of the comma.

Otherwise looks professional Smiley

I'd like to see how they'll average out the wage.  If bitcoin's value is going to be jumping back and forth, you could be getting paid great one day, and then blam, minimum wage or less.

Pretty much nowhere, I think...  It's brand spankin new
4013  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wouldn't it be more fair if the bitcoins were shared equally? on: February 22, 2013, 01:10:18 AM
Again, he's not arguing for re-distribution of wealth or the re-destribution of coins. He thinks the system should have started out with a base already in place. In a way it did, except that base was 0.

The Ripple giveaways are interesting to watch in this regard. If the giveaways after Bitcointalk progress to places like the streets of Mumbai, rock festivals, knitting forums, newspapers, etc. that might help get that intermediate "currency" into the hands of diverse enough people that it might help it gain momentum. I hope they emphasize its use to convert between currencies and send money to people, rather than as a "get rich" scheme.

Yeah that's the disconnect.  Doesn't help that ripples are disguised with a three-letter abbreviation similar to the other currencies, either.
4014  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How long should we give Wired magazine to retract their story and apologize? on: February 22, 2013, 12:22:25 AM
Funny that the writer managed to piss off nearly every single reader there Grin  But yeah, this article is a waste of space.  He got paid to have an opinion.  I wonder how many people could perform that job.
4015  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple: 100% premine on: February 22, 2013, 12:09:00 AM
We are working on some videos that should hopefully explain the concept more clearly.

Thank you!  That would be great Grin
4016  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple: 100% premine on: February 22, 2013, 12:02:21 AM
I'm still trying to figure out ripple myself.  Website isn't helping much, it's too vague on what the ripples actually do.

Is it like this: Joe in America wants to send Mod in Thailand some money.  So his USD gets transformed into ripples, ripples get sent to Mod, and then the ripples can be translated into Baht?

Your word processor put all your periods at the end of your text instead of between sentences. You might wanna download a patch or something.

Macrosaft Ward doesn't need any patches it works perfectly fine and for anyone making fun of him thats not cool because periods aren't even that important so what if my sentence runs on for miles you can still read it........
4019  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Missed out on Ripple! on: February 21, 2013, 11:42:34 PM
Thanks for putting my mind to rest.

I've not found out how many ripples there are, but I would assume its loads , so yes, I'll just wait! Wink

Is there a history of new currencies popping up every now and again and doing similar give aways?

100 billion I believe is the amount of ripples Tongue

It happens occasionally, Litecoin has been giving away for quite a while now.
4020  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What could really stop bitcoin now? on: February 21, 2013, 10:45:36 PM
I think a first world government crackdown would only strengthen the BTC. We are here because the government is flexing too much.

Agreed.  Unless they come up with some pretty convincing tales for the sheeple, it'll be real hard to outlaw Bitcoin, and would only prove how much they fear it.  Just look at the great job they're doing with torrenting Grin
