1281  Economy / Services / Looking for blockchain expert analysis on: January 18, 2015, 09:10:27 PM
I'm looking for an expert to track coins on certain addresses and attempt to piece together where they ended up (what exchange etc). I'm really only looking for someone who has has the proper tools/software and expertise to do this, not just a standard bitcoin user as I can make guesses myself where the coins are going.

PM if interested, you name what price you think is fair before we proceed

1283  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin dice games on: January 18, 2015, 01:16:51 AM
Can someone answer me why bitcoin dice games were introduced with the advent of bitcoin?
What makes it possible for these games to exist with bitcoin and not with fiat ?

There are plenty of dice games in the fiat world, they just aren't as common as card games and are a bit different. Satoshidice introduced dicing as more of a lottery system and then Primedice simplified it greatly and took it off chain. Amongst the dice games in standard fiat casinos there aren't really any games very similar to primedice, bitcoin sites seem to be embracing transparency in terms of showing all bets and encouraging social gameplay.

Not having to wait 2-3 days on deposits and withdrawals certainly makes this sort of fast paced gambling more exciting and relevant for bitcoin users as well.
1284  Other / Meta / Re: MODERATORS DO YOUR JOBS STOP THE PONZIS on: January 17, 2015, 02:43:12 AM
Or just get someone in the default trust list to post feedback on the user so people can see and make their own choices.

This is probably even more of a spam issue than it is a scam issue. I agree with leaving negative trust on them if certain conditions are fulfilled, however this probably results in them creating a new account/thread.
1285  Other / Meta / Re: Ponzi "Game" == Negative Trust? on: January 17, 2015, 02:10:19 AM
I am not saying any of that. My argument is that I feel that any ponzi "game" operator are going to scam. I personally think anyone who invests in a ponzi is a sucker who will eventually be parted with their money several times over.

I think that anyone who is actively promoting ponzis (that I think will eventually scam) are enabling the scam that will eventually happen

I think that anyone who plays a dice site is a sucker and will be parted with their money several times over due to the house edge. I think that anyone promoting dice sites are enabling others to lose money.

The majority of people indeed lose money dicing, however the odds are extremely straight forward more so than any other gambling game and the edge is pretty minuscule at 1%. Dice is a sustainable and provably fair game of entertainment, Ponzi games ALWAYS end with users getting scammed as one user's funds are used to pay another user a premium and ultimately someone if not multiple people will lose all their money. They almost never have any value in terms of entertainment, it's hard to call them games when really they are high risk securities if anything.

The core issue with ponzi games right now is that they aren't just scamming one individual, and they are rarely if ever provably fair. There used to be games like the bitcoin bear and bitcoin gem which were provably fair ponzi games. The risks were well advertised and only one user would be losing their "investment' per round. When these new ponzi games get a large enough investment they simply steal it and continue to take further deposits and steal those as well.

I think it's extremely stupid for this forum to allow the serial scamming of users via openly letting ponzi owners advertise here. It shines an extremely negative light on this forum and bitcoin itself and puts the forum at legal risk.

I agree with negative trusting ponzi games if any of these conditions are fulfilled:

       1. Unrealistic promises/ Failure to fully disclose risks. Ex. Not calling the game a "ponzi"  (90% of games right now)

       2. Bought account: If the account they are using to advertise is bought and they are using that purchased reputation they should receive negative feedback.

       3
. Fake users/puppets. Example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=927328.0

       4. Non-Instant games. Ponzis are now 48 hours or weekly and hold all deposits giving them the opportunity to scam massive groups of users. Example.

My beef isn't with classic bitcoin ponzi games, it's with the new generation of games which are highly deceptive and designed to scam giant groups when users believe that an individual "greater fool" will be the victim. It's possible to run a legitimate bitcoin ponzi game, but if you view the gambling section that is rarely the case and thus the majority of these games should either be deleted from the section or receive negative trust if they are to remain.

It's pretty obvious that all these games are being run by a small group of serial scammers who simply repost a new game and make a few design changes after scamming a prior group of "investors". The simple fact that the vast majority of this forum disagrees with these games is enough justification to permanently remove them.
1286  Other / Meta / Re: Please give another section to ponzis... on: January 16, 2015, 11:24:40 PM
This has come up before. The main issue is that ponzis are very similar to both other gambling sites and real investment sites, so it's difficult to create a category that includes exactly the right things. How about this:

Quote
Investor-based games
Games where the main factor is whether or not new "investors" join the game. Also any Bitcoin-denominated investment product with an APR of 15% or more, which are similarly risky even if they're not actually paying interest using investor deposits.

Would this description cover any real investments or non-ponzi gambling sites? Would it fail to cover any ponzis that have existed in the Bitcoin ecosystem?

Also, are any actual users of the Gambling section irritated by this, or are people just trying to hide this kind of game? Is anyone against the creation of this section?

That would be a reasonable compromise, although personally I don't think they should even be allowed to advertise on this forum.

1287  Other / Meta / Re: Ponzi schemes are flooding gamblig section everyday more on: January 16, 2015, 11:18:38 PM
I think they should all be deleted, not just moved to their own section. The forum is facilitating the scamming of thousands of coins from less bright individuals who think they can make easy money and are shocked when they later get scammed. There is no entertainment value in these games, they are just designed to rob funds from random users who are greedy or stupid enough to invest in such a high risk scheme.

Many operators of gambling sites myself included have been discussing forming our own gambling forum. Gambling is a major use of bitcoin and a very popular section on this forum and it's simply impossible to have a productive community that is flooded with scams.

Right now I'm wrestling with the idea of whether or not I should negative trust all ponzi operators if they do classify themselves as a "ponzi"
1288  Economy / Gambling / Re: 999Dice.com - Just Launched - 0.1% house edge, faucet & earn BTC on: January 16, 2015, 10:53:54 PM
Something weird happened.
I visited 999dice and a guy on chat warned me to go away else I will loose all my coins. I have seen a lot of scam accusations on this site so I just wanted to try out whether the accusations are true or not. But before depositing money someone scared me off. Now I am just wondering that was that guy telling me that you are doomed to loose while gambling or is 999dice rigged?

In my opinion this website is a scam. If you read through the history of the thread, the owner launched claiming to have 100k's of coins wagered in one day along with a sizable bankroll which I pressed him to prove and he agreed. After agreeing to that he left bitcointalk and never returned and never demonstrated that proof basically admitting that he was lying.

Also I believe that this JakeM is JakeMcrs a confirmed scammer who developed the site gigadice and simpledice, so he certainly had  the code for it already. This is likely the case but isn't something I've been able to prove 100%.

Why people continue to use this site blows my mind, anyone who loses funds to them deserves to lose them at this point.

damn i was gona rain but seems as if pd just died

Everyone should have access right now, try refreshing www.primedice.com and let me know if it works for you. Pending cashouts have been pushed through as well. The "something in the server error" should not appear for users anymore.

Site is going down for maintenance for a bit while we sort out withdrawal delays & other issues. Hopefully back in an hour or less.

If coins continue to decline in value, we'll consider greatly increasing the max payout per bet.

How is that going to work out for you? Isn't the current max payout a % of your total coins? Because if it is I'm guessing that increasing the max payout would increase the risk on your part.

Good question. We cut the max payout in half from 40 to 20 after losing 2300+ coins to hufflepuff and over the past couple months we've regained a large percentage of these coins back and are able to offer higher bets again if there is the demand for it.

All in due time.
1295  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Interview with bagholders Thread on: January 13, 2015, 10:32:13 PM
When I was working on Primedice the price of bitcoin was exploding from $10 to the $100 range over an extremely short period of time. Having sold absolutely no coins, all of my bitcoin holdings are heavily devalued in terms of USD. That being said, this fall will prove to be a long term blessing as I will continue to accumulate cheap coins.

It's pretty fun watching all the people who were looking to get rich quick start to squirm and panic. When I first got involved with bitcoin I was probably the same but after using it for the past two years I've gained a deep appreciation for the technology behind it and firmly believe in its future.

I'm sure there are plenty of bagholders who are pissed off that they missed their opportunity to sell. I can only say that I regret not selling some coins at 1k+ only because I could have bought 4x back now. I'm quite certain that OP is the type of person who will panic buy bitcoin when they begin increasing in value. All I can say is that when bitcoin has 100% made it, there will be no greater feeling than watching all the naysayers talk about how they almost won big. In a few years I'm sure I'll look back at my post history, see this thread and smile.

Regardless of how things end out, I'm more than happy to be apart of this experience.

Faucet will now be 200 satoshi's unless your wagered is over 1 BTC. If your wagered is over 1 BTC your faucet will remain the same prior to the update and will increment in the same manner.

I just logged in and my amount wagered has disappeared, I had wagered well over 50 BTC and it was reset to 0 and my faucet correspondingly went down to 200! Although my total "profit" of over minus 2 BTC was still there. Smiley Was this an unintended consequence and will I get my faucet back?

Thanks!

What was your username?

Hi Stunna, thanks for looking into it. My username is ianoob2.

Best wishes!

Fixed you up, let me know if that looks about right.

I really vote against hotkeys but you said that you would make it customizable. I would hate to mash my keyboard and then bet it all on a 1%  bet and lose.

This would be turned off by default if added. We'd likely disable any features by default that could have that sort of unintended consequence.

Some impressive stats. Any chance of getting alt-coin gambling on this site?
I think that might happen in the future.
I hope it happen soon. Always wished for alt-coin Grin

I think adding new alt-coin to casino requires much work: new betting interface, new faucet, new deposit-withdraw system...
why to do this when you already can win bitcoins and buy any alt-coin you want?
IMO such features give more advantages to alt-coin than to casino

Adding an alt coin would be incredibly easy, especially if using a third party service/API which there are quite a few of now. I don't think bitcoin has any competition currently, if we were ever to add in alt coin support those coins would have to be converted to bitcoin on deposit and back to your alt coin on withdrawal.

I've been overseeing the creation of a friends list which should be useful in keeping connected with people within the PD community. This will appear right next to the chat either replacing the PVP tab or placed right in-between the main chat and PVP tab. It will take a bit of time to get fully implemented and tested but once ready you will be able to see the online status of friends you have added and will be able to see/respond to private messages in a much more organized manner. We've also received a ton of feedback on features from a prior thread I posted and via email and are considering implementing a variety of features such as hotkeys which will be turned off by default but customizable in settings.

It's also pretty safe to say that we will be unveiling new games in 2015, we've made a few in the past and held off releasing them as they weren't up to our standards. We're working hard to create something custom which is as original and entertaining as PD was when it launched nearly two years ago. Within the Primedice team we are dividing up to create very tiny groups of individuals each working on their own custom game, the best game that comes out of this will likely be our next release whether stand-alone or integrated into PD.

We're looking into doing some big giveaways, right now there just isn't an effective or fair means to do so as dicing is social but not competitive by nature. If we ended up launching additional social games they would probably be better equipped for this. I've credited all the mods a bitcoin just now and they can give away small amounts to quality contributors to the community as they wish.

Edit:Posted an update on our blog going into a bit more detail on what I mentioned here: http://blog.primedice.com/post/107620828282/new-year-new-challenges
