1181  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAMMED 14K :( @ M.Bitwallet.Finance, and BitProCorp.Com on: August 18, 2022, 02:56:32 PM
Alternatively, OP could check if their case is tax deductible in their country, see: https://koinly.io/guides/ (consulting a CPA is likely needed to be extra sure)
1182  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN][EXCHANGE] ░ Godex.io - NEW EXCHANGER WITH FULL PRIVACY FEATURE ░ on: August 16, 2022, 11:45:29 AM
Can anyone tell if this exchange is legit?
Their Trustpilot seems kinda sus since they have like houndreds of 5-star reviews and a few legit looking really bad reviews about coins not being transferred.

I got an ad for this in brave browser and thought it looks kinda good as a dex without registration etc.

Well, their page has been flagged by trustpilot lol. I'd look for an alternative in the Instant exchanges thread

Alert
We’ve found out that this company is breaching our terms of use with the way they’re displaying Trustpilot content. They could be showing an inaccurate star rating or TrustScore, or displaying reviews they’re not permitted to use. This could be misleading.

We wanted to let you know that this company hasn’t been playing by the rules. We take the integrity of our platform very seriously, and when we uncover misuse, we put a stop to it.

I'd also like to add that it's best to treat these instant exchanges as a CEX without registration since they're also centralized. They can block your funds and request KYC, not to mention a lot of them probably gets liquidity from CEXes like binance, hitbtc etc...
1183  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin ATMs with no PhotoID in Australia on: August 15, 2022, 01:03:37 AM
@op, you may wanna check out: https://kycnot.me/ for possible alternatives.

As to OP's question, I've visited a few BTCATMs around where I live (they seem to be everywhere nowadays), and I'm pretty sure all of them have a camera pointing at you.  Even if its function is to scan an address's QR code, you'd have to assume that it's also taking a picture of you as well unless you know otherwise.  There was one I used that required a picture ID, but the rest of them didn't.

Another thing to consider is how much CCTVs are covering you on your way. For starters, wearing something to make your face harder to recognize would be a good idea e.g. face mask, cap, etc.
1184  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: EXMO.com ALERT SCAM/FRAUD - HELP - All Withdrawals Blocked [Error 10220] on: August 13, 2022, 01:05:03 PM
Same thing again? It was working fine for a few months, now blocked all withdrawals (including crypto). Then later shut down the site.

Website's back now, still can't withdraw?

Just for clarity, the link in the OP is exmo.com but in your screenshot, the link is exmo.me. Are both links from the same site?

Looks like some domains are for certain locals. For instance, if you go to exmo.com and change the language to russian, you'll be redirected to exmo.me.
1185  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Issue with the new Bitpay APP on: August 13, 2022, 02:26:53 AM
Does the good old pressing down to paste the text not working?

In any case, an alternative is: (also on android)

select which coin wallet > in your upper right, select the 3 dots > share address > you'll be presented with available apps for quick sharing
1186  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: south africa has launched a SMS service to send bitcoin without internet on: August 12, 2022, 09:44:13 PM
SMS are easily intercepted which makes it insecure, see: https://proton.me/blog/stop-using-sms?

I guess if you understand the risk, you can do amounts you're comfortable losing but significant ones? nahhhh. Let's not forget that someone near me can easily pluck out my sim card with some sort of needle and if they replace it with a new one, it would probably take some time for me to notice.
1187  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Another one bites the dust! But this one's different. The Hotbit case. on: August 12, 2022, 09:07:50 AM
it's a bit strange if Hotbit claims to be headquartered and comply with Hong Kong regulations.

Well, the only hotbit out there in hongkong is marked as "dissolved" (unless they go by a different name).

Cancellation Date: September 04,2020
Active Status: Dissolved
Date of Dissolution/已告解散日期:2020-09-04

It's interesting because they still claim to be registered according from their about us... so I couldn't help but to look into Estonia's as well only to find out they were registered only a year ago despite hotbit claiming longer than that.

Registered 06.04.2021

All this lying ain't a good sign. Makes me even more on the fence about the whole thing since we don't have any outside info at the moment.
1188  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Fake Google Sheets Extension - Scammed | New Update! on: August 12, 2022, 12:42:14 AM
Hmmm. If I were you, I'd opt for a fresh OS installation since we don't know what slips thru AVs and our own eyes. Probably opt out on extensions in the sync settings as well, just to be extra sure.

You can try to compartmentalize if you're dabbling with potentially dangerous stuff like pirated softwares, keeping the data of malicious extensions, etc.
1189  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Bitcoin in Space (Casacius Coin) - What to do with it after it comes back? on: August 10, 2022, 01:36:47 AM
Taking it from place to place would probably get a wider reach specially since we don't know how often the chosen museum/gallery would put it up on display. The hard part is you'd likely have to dedicate a good amount of your time and effort for this.
1190  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do I need a VPN to short trade in the UK ? UK FCA crypto confusion on: August 09, 2022, 12:31:38 AM
If it's really banned then there's no way you can access the site but you said you can access it freely without any restrictions whatsoever? Then I think that is a good sign that the banned have been removed already.

Not really. For instance, there was a time kucoin did not IP ban the fellas from unsupported countries. There was also a case in paxful where a once supported country became restricted however the user in question was still able to deposit, so when they did, their funds were locked. CEXes don't always have the proper restriction in place before you start trading.

I noticed that some comments here talks about how risky it is to use a centralized exchange because it can hold your funds but I think that wasn't the main concern of the OP here plus he is doing a trade and it will be a hassle if he will just pull out his funds every time he do a trade.

the horror stories from people who had their funds freezed by centralized exchanges should always be mentioned especially if one could be violating some current/future policies.
1191  Other / Archival / Re: Scamfari - Report a scam and earn money on: August 07, 2022, 01:40:00 AM
I think the easiest way to meet scammers would be by joining cryptocurrency communities in telegram, reddit, discord etc... and announcing you need some help with your crypto lol.

At the very least, it looks like the addresses of approved reports would be published in their explorer, see scamfari.com in the list of reporters: https://explorer.hapi.one/reporters/
1192  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is there any site like purse.io ? on: August 05, 2022, 11:14:41 PM
this is a old topic but maybe help other users to find a way for purchase from amazon with bitcoin
there is bitoff.io that support both bitcoin and tether (usdt) i use it for about 1 year and work well
also there is purse but only support bitcoin

The effort you made to talk about them is SUS AF.

Buy from Amazon with bitcoin and save up to 30%
Earn bitcoin by purchasing amazon orders.

Bitoff is an escrow platform for earning and spending bitcoin.
We help you earn bitcoin by purchasing Amazon orders for people who like to spend bitcoin on Amazon.
Hi all...
there is a new service ( i use it for about 1 year, maybe its not new)....
In a different board:
this is a old topic but maybe help other users to find a way for purchase from amazon with bitcoin
there is bitoff.io that support both bitcoin and thether (usdt) i use it for about 1 year and work well
also there is purse but only support bitcoin

Trying to pose as a user when you actually own the service is yikes. Good luck getting people from here.
1193  Other / Archival / Re: ZB Exchange - Possible hack, ~$5 million on: August 05, 2022, 10:08:36 PM
What's funny is that right when the address was being drained, ZB exchange sent the very address some 30.99 Ether and 10,000 USDT which was also sent out immediately. How dumb  Grin
https://etherscan.io/address/0xe019d99f9fe03dc5661ad4bb19f9db88d9fa0a62

There is still some 4.966 Ether in the address, maybe the hackers have had enough? From what I know, hackers are usually so greedy.

That's interesting... there's someone in crunchbase proclaiming their group owns ZB.com, EXX.com and BW.com. For those who don't know, exx.com exit scammed so if this isn't some fake information, we might be seeing a pattern here.

Founder of FundV, Co-founder of Bitbank Group, Bitbank Group owns ZB.com EXX.com BW.com

In any case, I would stay away from any exchange proclaiming similar high volumes despite barely having an online presence.
1194  Other / Archival / Re: ZB Exchange - Possible hack, ~$5 million on: August 04, 2022, 10:07:58 PM
I've always thought they were faking most or at least a large portion of their volume so I wonder how big/small is this loss to them... or did the mantra "fake it till you make it" finally worked?
1195  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FTX SMS Services for 2fa are down ? on: August 04, 2022, 08:58:17 PM
The reason for me to say this is because there is not much awareness of this hacking technique or no one will care to hack a sim as they do not know the use case for this ?  (As crypto is not being known or used by many in our part of the world)

It's one of the most common attacks so I find it hard to believe that there isn't much awareness about it but you probably know your place better than me.

This attack has existed even before the crypto boom and any accounts connected could be targeted e.g. bank, emails, social media, etc... SMS aren't really private so you have no idea if someone is making a profile out of you based on the OTPs you're receiving.

Quote from: UmerIdrees
Also, do you mean to say that only the employee of the telecom can do this sim hijacking or anyone with the required expertise can perform this evil act?

well, you need an inside access to do it hence employees are usually targeted for it.
1196  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FTX SMS Services for 2fa are down ? on: August 02, 2022, 05:52:40 PM
but also there have been countries where getting the sim is highly difficult there are lot of process so it depends.

Yes, but scammers don't always have to obtain them legally. For instance, lookup news about illegal activation of sim cards where scammers use fake/stolen personal information.
1197  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: I have to verify my blockchain account? on: August 02, 2022, 01:59:47 PM
Where are your funds sitting OP? are all of them in your private key wallet/s? asking because there's a 'limited access' tier in their exchange/custodial services where you only have to give basic information with no ID and/or selfie needed. If you've used the said services, some of your funds may still be sitting in their custodial wallets like the trading accounts.

Keep in mind that your backup phrase only covers private key wallets. In case you have some cryptos you can't get out in their custodial wallets/accounts, you'd have to contact the support team about it.
1198  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FTX SMS Services for 2fa are down ? on: August 01, 2022, 09:34:57 PM
However, I hope that for a sim swap to happen, the hacker must be living in the same country as mine. I don't think anyone is capable of doing that here  Wink

Care to elaborate why do you think it won't happen in your country? some sort of rigorous process for sim porting? For one, there were already cases of telecom employees accepting blood money from scammers as a side job so even that wouldn't stop sim hijacking. Not to mention, you could always meet a sloppy employee.

In addition, there are services providing access to numbers from various countries (lookup: sms verification/sim rental services). I imagine scammers could use something 'similar' hence, it's not necessary for them to be in the same country as you.
1199  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: HELP PLEASE Wifey got sucked in,is there a way to get out? on: July 31, 2022, 08:31:04 AM
It's a very popular scam right now.... Scammers DM their victims about how successful they are as a trader and later on offers help. The catch is victims will be redirected to some no one has ever heard website, similar to you. They will try to loosen up their victims by saying "you can always start with small amounts". That being said, few trades will work until the victim does a big enough deposit for the scammer to freeze their account. You might get asked to pay more money to them in order to get your funds out, please don't.
1200  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FTX SMS Services for 2fa are down ? on: July 29, 2022, 07:07:47 PM
This is why I find sms 2fa inconvenient as well, you have to constantly rely on these service providers... there is no need for such thing in TOTP so aside from better security, it will also save you from hiccups like this.

Also, if this is a known issue, is any timeline shared by FTX as to when it will be resolved?

Try to check if your country is undergoing delays/maintenance in twilio, see: https://status.twilio.com/
According from this tweet, they are using them for their SMS 2FA.
