Hey, does anyone know how I can unlock my PPCoin wallet so that I can generate POS without jeopardising my wallet (So that a my balance can't just be emptied)

Also, Sunny, any chance you can make a locked wallet generate POS without unlocking a wallet (Kinda of like how you can solo mine coins with Bitcoin without having to unlock the wallet file)

Thanks

Add a 'true' at the end of walletpassphrase command:

ppcoind walletpassphrase <your_passphrase> <unlock_time_duration_in_seconds> true

In this 'mint-only' unlock mode, one cannot send transactions but can mint blocks (including both proof-of-work and proof-of-stake).

It's more secure than the general unlock mode but less secure than a locked wallet.

Thanks

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

How about searching and replacing all/most instances of "bitcoin" with "ppcoin" ?
The 0.3 client mentions "bitcoins" several times.

This is a copy of a post from me in another PPCoin related thread.

Two of the bitcoin properties are:

* It is deflationary.
* Is is decentral and not controlled by goverment/central bank/bank/company.

This two properties are independent from each other. It is possible to have a decentral and uncontrolled crypto currency without inbuild deflation. PPCoin demonstrates this.

The slight inbuild inflation of PPCoin reminds me of the very sucessful monetary politics of the Deutsche Bundesbank (German Central Bank) in former decades, when they were much more independent from politics/EU/NWO and much more concerned about the value of the Deutsche Mark and the german economy. Every country around germany was pissed off because of the hard and successful politics of the Deutsche Bundesbank in stabilizing the value of the Deutsche Mark.

The concept of PPCoin reminds me of the former Deutsche Mark. The difference is, that the Deutsche Bundesbank was hacked by politics/EU/NWO. Something that can be avoided by the decentral crypto currency concepts.

Many people don't like the name PPCoin (PeePee-Coin or PiPi-Coin  Cheesy) .

If SunnyKing reads this - I vote for a name: dCoin. Which can be officially interpreted as digitalCoin. For insiders it can also mean deutschCoin, in memory to the Deutsche Mark.

I also vote for - if necessary, I cannot say so much in specific about this - of a adaption/improvement/redesign of PPCoin to mimic more of the good properties of the Deutsche Mark.

I can also imagine a new fork to implement/establish something like the dCoin. For example the implementation of scrypt may make sense. NovaCoin(?) has implemented inflation and scrypt, but the people behind NovaCoin do not convince me.

If someone or some people as a team, serious and reliable (I like the very constant element in Sunny King daily updates) would do this (I cannot do this, not enough specific knowledge about cryptography/technology/economy/public relations), I would like to be informed to be able to profit from the early adopter bonus.

I think that a decentral and uncontrollable crypto curreny with slight inflation will  provide a lot to the economic well being of mankind in 21st centrury Smiley ...

We can all start referring to it as PPC instead of PPCoin without the brouhaha.

what about nvc premine?

I don't really discriminate against premined/taxed cryptocurrencies as to whether I would help them or not, if they can survive the market backlash that is. To give Balthazar some credit, the destruction of 110K premined coins is an action not every altcoin operator would take.

As I said, I would even help an altcoin that I strongly dislike.
The whole pre-mining issue is ill conceived. Everybody who comes too late to a party will always have missed out on opportunity. So for a newcomer there is not really a difference between someone who pre-mined, and an early adopter who hashed at a lower difficulty, or even a trader who had picked up the coins at a low price point.

The pre-mining strongly connects to the issue on how to reward code development and maintenance, a question which is far from settled. Apparently cryptocurrencies haven't really found a solution to this deficiency at all. Once the code is introduced, there's little incentive for the developer to maintain it, other than reputation and ideology. A pre-mining can alleviate the situation by providing a cash-out schedule for the developer. The idea of taxation on the initial distribution, as proposed by freicoin, was certainly innovative, but poorly communicated, and thus lead to a wide spread knee-jerk reaction.

Because of the lack of development incentives in the bitcoin market, I can understand the move of the developers to establish a bitcoin foundation. It's monetizing the social aspect of bitcoin to a degree at which bitcoin code development becomes sustainable.

i was wondering about something, when i was mining, i think i found a block, because the number of transactions got +1, and the miner also reported it. Only the transaction never showed in the transaction history, and when i look with ppcoind listtransactions it says it is an orphan.

Now I know what orphans are and it is normal they happen, but i thought the number of transactions on the overview page of the ppcoin-qt should stay the same, maybe some error, where it doesnt check if it is an orphan? Does the number of transaction get corrected to the right number after a while?

Sunny (or others): I just downloaded the PPCoin wallet from Sourceforge and installed it.

(1) At the bottom is a warning:

WARNING: Checkpoint is too old. Wait for block chain to download , or notify developers of the issue.

Consider yourself notified!
I have 1 active connection, and the icon at the bottom right corner (rotating arrows), indicate that I am downloading/synching, but when mousing over, it stays at 00.00% done, o blocks, even after 30 minutes.
I am currently mining BTC (GPU) and LTC (CPU) successfully.

What should I do to fix this?

(2): How would I mine PPCoin on Windows 7-64? Can I mine while mining BTC and LTC at the same time (not considering GPU/CPU limits, but possible software interactions as they share the same codebase?)

Thanks!

ps: Under options it mentions "Start Bitcoin on window system startup", you might want to change that to PPcoin?

On the other hand it is not secure to put a password/phrase in a command line.   Is there alternative ways of passing it in?

I also would like to know how to mine.

After leaving the PP wallet open for 12+ hours, it suddenly has downloaded all blocks (still with only one connection), so I assume it was because lack of peers/users?

Anyway, I had to kill the wallet as it was consuming 60+% of CPU (I7 2600k), just doing nothing (I am not mining as it is unclear how to). I restarted the wallet and within minutes the same, so something is wrong with it. Anybody else with this problem or knows how to fix/prevent it?

cgminer -o stratum+tcp://coinotron.com:8322 -u xxxx -p xxxx -I 9

First, an intensity of 9 with sha-256 coins will only give you hardware errors. I 5 is about the max setting.

Here is one of my config files from one of my rigs when mining coinotron:

Code:
{
"pools" : [
        {
                "url" : "http://coinotron.com:9322",
                "user" : "xxxx.xxxx",
                "pass" : "xxxxx"
        }
]
,
"intensity" : "5,5,5",
"vectors" : "2,2,2",
"worksize" : "128,128,128",
"kernel" : "diablo,diablo,diablo",
"lookup-gap" : "0,0,0",
"thread-concurrency" : "0,0,0",
"shaders" : "0,0,0",
"gpu-engine" : "0-900,0-900,0-900",
"gpu-fan" : "0-65,0-65,0-65",
"gpu-memclock" : "800,800,800",
"gpu-memdiff" : "0,0,0",
"gpu-powertune" : "0,0,0",
"gpu-vddc" : "0.000,0.000,0.000",
"temp-cutoff" : "95,95,95",
"temp-overheat" : "85,85,85",
"temp-target" : "75,75,75",
"api-port" : "4028",
"expiry" : "120",
"gpu-dyninterval" : "7",
"gpu-platform" : "0",
"gpu-threads" : "2",
"hotplug" : "5",
"log" : "5",
"no-pool-disable" : true,
"queue" : "1",
"scan-time" : "60",
"temp-hysteresis" : "3",
"shares" : "0",
"kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin"
}

Also remember that coinotron worker logons are not the same as your web login. You need to set them up in your account and they are in the format of <your web login>.<whatever you name your worker(s)>

P.S Coinotron does not, or any pool as far I know, offer stratum with PPC.  PPC , as of right now, does not fully support 'getblocktemplate' which is needed for stratum based pool software to run natively.
