London's Muslim mayor: I can't travel to U.S. under Trump

London’s new mayor — and the first Muslim to hold the position — warns that a Donald Trump presidency could keep him from engaging with American mayors.

“If Donald Trump becomes the president I’ll be stopped from going there by virtue of my faith, which means I can’t engage with American mayors and swap ideas,” Sadiq Khan said in an interview with Time.

Khan acknowledged New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel for their work and said he’d like to go to the United States  "to meet with and engage with American mayors," but a Trump presidency could jeopardize that. The presumptive GOP nominee has proposed a temporary ban on non-citizen Muslims from entering the United States.

Khan said he planned to visit the United States before January in case Trump wins the White House and criticized Trump’s campaign tactics — which he accused conservatives in his race of using.

“Hope, I think, is a good way of persuading people to vote for you, energize and enthuse people,” he said. “I think to try and look for differences, to try and turn communities against each other is not conducive to living successfully and amicably.”

Khan, a member of the Labour Party, was elected mayor last week.

Palin is not a good choice for the VP pick. She might be popular among the religious nuts, but Trump will be losing a huge amount of centrist and secular votes, if he picks her as the VP candidate.

The remaining 37% were undecided. That is a huge number. (In 2012, Obama had won the state by a 5.5% margin over Mitt Romney).

One of the head-scratchers of American politics is how completely the two sides have hunkered down into echo chambers - and the extent to which the "political nation" has fractured into several echo chambers. In a very noteworthy sense, the political insiders now occupy an echo chamber of their own.

Here's one echo chamber whose regulars insist that President Obama is a Third Worldist whose secret desire is to humble America. Over here is another echo chamber whose regulars are fond of noting that Obama is a moderate Republican in all but name.

New Delhi: Around a dozen members of a right-wing Indian Hindu group lit a ritual fire and chanted mantras Wednesday asking the Hindu gods to help Donald Trump win the US presidential election.

While Trump has dominated the Republican primary race to decide the party’s candidate for the November election, his calls for temporarily banning Muslims from America and cracking down on terrorist groups abroad have earned him some fans in faraway India.

“The whole world is screaming against Islamic terrorism, and even India is not safe from it,” said Vishnu Gupta, founder of the Hindu Sena nationalist group. “Only Donald Trump can save humanity.”

Members of the group gathered on a blanket spread out in a New Delhi protest park along with a collection of statues depicting gods including Shiva and Hanuman—as well as photos of a shouting Trump.

Above them hung a banner declaring support for Trump “because he is hope for humanity against Islamic terror.”

The group chanted Sanskrit prayers asking the gods to favour Trump in the election, and threw offerings such as seeds, grass and ghee—or clarified butter—into a small ritual fire.
