What happened to tsitsipas in today final he was doing good on the first set against coric and he was leading 4 2 after managing to break coric serve and then his performance started going down he lost his serve and lost 7 0 in the tie breaks not to mention the second set that was a disaster, either way coric did well today he seem in a great shape a totally deserved win.
he gave up in the second half, Tsitsipas got three chances to break in the first game of the 2nd set but failed, we could have seen something different if he succeeded, but when Coric kept putting pressure on Tsitsipas serve while winning his easily, it destroyed the hope and motivation for Tsitsipas to comeback, great tournament and run for Coric, well deserved.

Tsitsipas gave hard fight, and he looks so tired. It was same as the set against Medvedev, but things didn't worked out this time. If I'm not wrong, Coric have pre-planned the match after the defeat of Medvedev. In the past we used to see only certain players in the finals. Now those scenario have changed. In the doubles semifinal Tsitsipas and Rune have given a walkover which according to me seemsto be out of injury or being tired don't let him perform.

Tsitsipas wasn't into it at all. A 2-0 win by Coric is shocking. Odds must be like 8x?

Anyways, he deserve to lose Smiley Check this out : https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/wubdbt/interestingly_tsitsipas_is_on_toilet_break/

He was getting coached again by his daddy during the break(which is not legal if the player is off court).

Coric's recent climb is magnificent, from #159 to #29 is amazing. Proud of him Cheesy

Amazing to see Coric win a Masters event. Tsitsipas played pretty well but Coric looked fresh throughout the match, not dropping his level. Isn't it very rare for a player rated over 100-150 to win a Masters event? Well, Coric always had the skills to be in top 20. He was ranked 12th in the world, not too long ago. Good to see him back in form.

Brilliant from Coric, In his first service game of the first set he got broken, he couldnt hit
a winner ans Tsitsipas was exceptional, it looked like he was reading Coric's play but
Coric came back into it and blasted his way through the tie break. I went to bed after
that and hoped he could win the second too.

Cant believe he did so easily 2-6.

Did anyone have Coric to win in any way?

Wow, huge win for Coric, I never expect him to win the tournament. And during the firs set I was able to caught the score at 4-1 Tsisitipas. And then when I came back, it's 6-6 and I said that Coric is going to win this set and maybe the tournament.

There are really a lot of surprises for this year, at least it was a good year as there are a lot of players winner 250, 1000 masters and there is no single dominant player that we have seen so far.

congrats to Coric, did bot believed in him, but he earned this title, kicked-out Nadal, and few other top players, with Tsitsi last night
did not looked that way in the beginning, but he stormed through tie-break and saved three break points in his first serve in second set, that eventually leaved Tsitsi broken down

should put close eye on him at US open

As I said yesterday, Tsitsipas on hard is exactly the type of opponent you hope to get in an ATP1000 tournament final.
Čorić was playing well throughout the tournament and really does deserve this, it is his first tournament win since 2018.

should put close eye on him at US open

I think he'll jump like 100 places with these points which should earn him automatic qualification to US Open. A tournament win at the right time Grin

Not just qualification, he is now top 30 and that is enough for him to be seeded. Meaning he should have 3 "easy" matches before needing to play another one of seeded players.

Watched the match and Coric was good, but it was Tsitsipas breakdown that granted him the title. When both played their best tennis Tsitsipas was better but Coric kept his levels through whole match whlie Tsitsi was full of ups and downs.

What's extremely shocking about the game against Tsitsipas is how Tsitsipas gave away the first tie-break. He isn't bad at serving at all unless he is just about losing his nerves and that is what happened when he was down 0-2 in the tie-break. If he can't be more solid during exactly those moments in big tournaments, then how is he ever going to turn into a world number 1 candidate? So many people thought he is the next shining star, but certainly not this way. Even the second set was pure disappointment but it could be expected as it is typical for him to lose focus after getting beaten that way in the first set.

I think it is disturbing that there is still no clarity about Djokovic's participation at the US Open. Whatever the decision will be by the people in charge, but why wait until the very last moment? He would be the favorite for sure. Although I really hope that Nadal doesn't have to give up halfway through because of any of his injuries that recently seem to be reappearing again and again.

After this win now Coric has big jumped with ATP 29 Tsitsipas is much better play but have no good touch in this final against Coric which give him bad defeat and Coric done good job throughout tournament and have his title after few year's absence. There is no doubt he deserves a close eye in US Open because few years back he was one of the best rising player but with unknown off the field problems he was out but back with bang.

Tsitsipas was in bad shape and have no answers which were asked by Coric in this final even he breaks his serve early but then lost first set in tiebreaker after losing first set in second Coric not allowed him to fight back and won this title.

Thats a massive jump up the rankings by Coric, top 30 player now so he should start
climbing further if he can keep his current form, he had some really great winning
shots in that match, and yes the U.S Grand Slam should be very interesting for him and
hopefully we can make some Satoshi's in the early stages with him.

Yes, although I'm a big fan of Tsitsipas, seems that he is really broken up mentally in that game. I mean you had a huge lead in the first set, how can he let Coric come back strong and win it? And in the second set it was all Coric, Tsitsipas has no answer and as you have said, great winning shots so he can't be denied.

Will look for him of course in the next Grand Slam, or maybe he could be the dark horse of that tournament if he get to the quarterfinals.

Alexander Zverev will not take part in the US Open. That is a pity of course, but also rational. Because it was already clear beforehand that it would be very close. He would have had 720 points to defend in New York. These points are now gone. So he could lose the second place to Nadal.
But it looks good that Zverev will take part in the Davis Cup in Hamburg, Germany in September.

Chances were indeed very low. In order to play such a tournament you have to be in the best shape possible. He couldn't achieve that after his injury and having surgery. The ankle is such a critical joint for the tennis player. All the balance and movements is coordinated with the ankles.

It is sad to not see him playing there. I think he could have played a good role on hard court even against Nadal. Against Djokovic I am not so sure, I think Djokovic would take it home if he is allowed to play.

The names that many spectators are interested in are somehow dwindling recently. Nadal is injured more and more often, Federer doesn't return, Djokovic is not allowed to play and some players are injured or not playing consistently on a high level. In a couple of years the time of Djokovic and Nadal will also be over. I think the tennis world will be quite different by then and less people will be watching it.

I personally started watching tennis quite a lot exactly because of players like Federer. But that's how it is in sports. Messi and Ronaldo are soon gone. Schumacher was once gone in Formula 1 and Hamilton will also soon be gone. Hopefully those gaps will be filled with new superstars.

I also used to be a big fan of Tsitsipas but I think he has changed his attitude in the last
2 years or so. He has become one of those players who is walking on the very edges of
the rules in order to compensate for short comings in his abilities so I have kind of gone off him.

Nadal does it too but in a more routine based style, he does it all the time, its just his style,
Tsitsipas does it only when things are going against him.

His infamous bathroom breaks and then speculation that he is getting coach that time.

Nadal does it too but in a more routine based style, he does it all the time, its just his style,
Tsitsipas does it only when things are going against him.
I agree that probably Tsitsipas has lost his game because he doesn't have the strength within him. When he is broken, hard for him to comeback and overcome his opponents specially if they can match him stride for stride. He really needs to overcome that in order for him to win bigger tournaments in the future.

Many players already in cycle for replacing these legendarily because it's life one day we have to be replaced by our siblings, and they have to be replaced by new generation players as right now we have few like Medvedev, Tsitsipas and Thiem these are good players in next few years and have their best for fans around the world. While I was growing then German Stars were ruling on world like Boris Becker and Stefi Graf I really love to watch them but sadly after these two we have no big name and after big gape now we have another player but sadly until now he fails to give any impression.

Alexander Zverev is a quality player but due to injuries and his other activities he fails to have any best possible result because few years back I was positive about his future, but recently he completely fails to have best result.

Safia Kennin seems to be back to her usual self. She's playing really well against a fairly consistent player in Begu. Kennin just won the first set and if fitness isnt an issue, I don't see her losing the match. She's been going through a lot of personal matters as well as foot injury that has kept her away from tennis for a fairly long time. Good to see her back, playing at a good level.

Anyone read this news?

Nick Kyrgios to be sued by Wimbledon tennis fan after '700 drinks' comment

Quote
Nick Kyrgios is set for more courtroom drama after a Wimbledon fan he accused of having '700 drinks' revealed she is is suing the Australian tennis star.

Polish lawyer Anna Palus released a statement confirming legal action against the 27-year-old for his comments made during the Wimbledon final he lost against Novak Djokovic.

https://www.sportingnews.com/us/tennis/news/nick-kyrgios-be-sued-wimbledon-tennis-fan-after-700-drinks-comment/tedbzrvxafiohbzyz2vqvq6w

For sure even if Nick will win this case, it will take a lot of toll from him and might not perform at peak continue in the US Open. Not sure about the case  if it has merit or not. So we shall see what happens next. When Nick was really doing good lately in the last couple of tournaments, this is going to bite him for sure.
