TBH, these young core of the Spurs now are nowhere near to the big 3 of the spurs before (Duncan, Parker, and Ginóbili). so I don't expect spurs will be successful if they will not get another star players that have already prove himself from a team he is playing with now.
I think we will never see this kind of line up of the spurs anymore, and coach pop time with the Basketball will be over soon, so we can't expect that the one who inherit the coaching job will be as good as him. I heard Timmy has a good chance of getting that spot, anyway, that's just a rumor, but I'll be very glad to see him as the coach of the spurs and let's see if he can be a great coach like a player he was. https://www.expressnews.com/sports/spurs/article/Tim-Duncan-s-future-a-hot-topic-after-San-15105988.phpI agree with that, coach Pop and the big 3 Duncan, Parker, and Ginóbili are a good fit, after they retire, spurs was slowly going down in ranking. This is like coach Phil Jackson Jackson and the Lakers, when Kobe was injured and he left for the Knicks, Lakers suddenly become a non playoff contender team.

If there is one who knows the plays of Pops then it will be him. His patient and can connect with the team so he might be the best for that position. If not, then give him the assistant coach position, then maybe, he could learn more. We know some players don't respect coaches who are not that old yet. Happened with Erik Spoelstra of Miami Heat.

And about the inheriting stuff. That's great if it happens . And I must say... it is the most possible scenario in the future since there aren't any sort of sign who will take up the spurs except Timmy. I believe Timmy would handle the team very well as he's been with the spurs on his entire 19-year career an additional qualities he could offer to the team. And been under the guidance of Gregg Popovich alone since his draft. Imagine the bond, and experiences they shared. Probably Timmy had learned a lot about it, not to mention that he is an assistant coach right now next to Pop.

Unlike Derek Fisher and Jason Kidd, Tim is starting to coach in his past team since the other players know him so well they will surely have strong bond together.

Here's an interview back in March 2020. https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=9CZtYvSXS1MHe was already being trained for the position. The better part is, it was Pops at his side which we all know as one of the best coach in NBA. I doubt he will have a difficult time bringing the new team to respect him. Duncan is someone who had won championships, you could not disrespect a man who have that kind of achievement. The most unforgettable one was that 1 block more for a quadruple double. He actually did it but just didn't put the other block on record.

Well, they have Becky Hammon as the leading assistant coach in that team. Sure Duncan is getting all the attention as the assistant head coach right now because lets face it he is either the best power forward to play the game or he is up there, dude with 5 titles and some FMVP to go with it, so it is not a shock that if you have that option you make him the head coach.
However Becky is not a joke neither, that woman has been by Pops side for years now and she knows every single thing about him in and out. So, if one day Pop decides to retire and Duncan declines the job offer, I would say there is 2 really great candidates, either Mike Bud or Becky. Mike is also a Pop assistant back in the day and he took the ropes at Hawks job and made them a 62 win team and we all know how awesome he is now with Bucks as well. Both of those are really good options if you ask me.

What do you guys think, who will secure those playoff spots?
For the West, I think Spurs will make it, I trust coach Pop in crucial situation like this, then they will upset the Lakers. Here is another bad news for the Spurs, which will cost them this season. LaMarcus Aldridge underwent arthroscopic procedure and rotator cuff debridement on his right shoulder in April and it’s announced that he will miss the remainder of the 2019-20 season. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.poundingtherock.com/platform/amp/2020/6/8/21284396/lamarcus-aldridge-undergoes-shoulder-surgery-will-miss-the-remainder-of-the-season San Antonio is 27-36; 5 games out of the 8th seed. So their chances became even slimmer. I think this is a nice start for him if he got hired as a coach for the San Antonio Spurs. He can prove to everyone what he really got on coaching the team. Unlike Derek Fisher and Jason Kidd, Tim is starting to coach in his past team since the other players know him so well they will surely have strong bond together.
Tim Duncan will eventually become the head coach for the Spurs, he's just waiting for his turn, as well as learning the ropes beside Pop as an assistant coach. Infact, he already had his head coaching debut https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nba.com/amp/league/article/2020/03/03/spurs-tim-duncan-make-head-coaching-debut when Pop was out and It went well for him.

It's not a wrong decision by the Spurs. It's honestly good and better for the team in the long-run. There's no point in keeping a player that isn't interested anymore to play for the team. Kawhi loves that trades. Just too bad for DeRozan as he truly loves the city of Toronto Raptors and that trade really surprised him. Leonard is a special player, while DeRozan is good but inconsistent, this is one of the big mistake the Spurs made in their franchise. If they have traded Leonard to someone else, a star of course, Spurs might still has a good chance to be in the playoff spot now.
It's unfair to just point it out to DeRozan why Spurs will not make it into playoffs. We can obviously see that the team is really struggling this season. The competition in the West is also tough.

You are right, when Leonard got back from injury, I think he hasn't played anymore (correct me if I'm wrong) because he wanted to get traded, Leonard has talent and he had proven that many times but he is not a good fit for the Spurs anymore since he is not interested to play. However, people look two this way. When Leonard was in spurs, he won one championship and has become the NBA Finals MVP. When he got traded to the Raptors, he does the same. While when DeRozan was with the Raptors, they never went into the Finals as they were dominated by Lebron every time in the playoffs.

Well, I think they will replace the players with the other, and they will quarantine that player in isolate room like the other infected people out there. But before the game starts, maybe the players will be tested their health before they play so the player really health and free from Covid-19. I think they will use some protocols for the event, and if somehow, they found one or more players or teams who infected of Covid-19, they use that protocol and use more protection for the other players. The sports management needs to work seriously to handle this Covid-19, and they will make sure that people who work with them are clean and healthy.

Oh crap! They lose their offensive and defensive player. 8th seed will be difficult to achieve now. The NBA suspended tests for recreational drugs when the season stopped due to coronavirus, and as Charania reports it will stay that way for the rest of the year. That means the remainder of the NBA season and the playoffs will be the most stoned sporting event of all time. No debate.
Sorry JR, but I think you’re the guy everybody thinks of when it comes to playing in a NBA game while high as a kite. Hell, there’s a YouTube video called “JR Smith weed-night vs Spurs,” which features Smith throwing up countless airballs and not making a single shot in a blowout loss:
The beauty of JR, though, is that this could have been him completely sober, and that’s why he was off. It’s hard to tell the difference from him being high and not high when he would chuck up all those shots anyway.
As time passes, and more and more people seem to be coming around on the legalization of marijuana, many former NBA players have flat out said they got high before games on a regular basis https://sports.yahoo.com/remainder-nba-season-going-most-204340563.htmlHilarious, intriguing, and alarming. They admitted, so they are really doing it. It's just funny that it was JR Smith which was focused here.

The spurs are over now, they can't win this very important games without LA, who will provide these average to the team? https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/aldrila01.htmlI think we will see the Blazers in the coming playoffs. People would not back the Spurs to win without LA as he is one of the most consistent points provider to the team.

I couldn't say that it was already over for 'em but it would be very tough for the team to bound in, that is for certain. 18 ppg was a big thing considering that there aren't many shooters or who average in terms of point the same as or as close as to Derozan and LA 'cause the rest are averaging 11-10 ppg below . Not sure about Blazers (is Dame gonna play the remaining 8 games? 'cause if he's sure, it'll be a different story). However, in their conference Pelicans and Grizzlies are the heavy favorites. On top of that, these teams I mentioned, many of their players are averaging in double figures. Not to mention Kings, they are pretty scary team as well .

Poppovich has Tim Duncan right there if he decides to ever retire but if he wants Tim to continue the legacy and if he wants to make him into one of his great line of assistant coaches, it will require some more years to work together, I would say considering this season was a small loss, at least another 4 or so years working together to make Tim a great head coach.
If not, there is Brett Brown, Mike Budenholzer, Mike Brown, James Borrego, Jim Boylen, Ime Udoka and obviously my favorite Ettore Messina who now went back to Euroleague but definitely worth of the position.

I think I am late to the good news. So as I've read, there could be four choices format. 1. Sixteen teams go in Playoffs - Both Top 8 teams Eastern/Western. 2. Twenty teams Olympic-group style play - Just like World Cup. 3. Twenty two teams that will play/finish more regular games, and play-in tournament. - For the 8th seed. 4. Thirty teams that will play/finish the 72 regular games, and play-in tournament. That said, more favorable for the decision to choose is number 3. According to the NBA youtube channel that have 1 million subscriber. The NBA suspended tests for recreational drugs when the season stopped due to coronavirus, and as Charania reports it will stay that way for the rest of the year. That's the old news, format has been decided and approved few days ago. Here is the article with all you have to know https://www.nba.com/article/2020/06/04/board-of-governors-approves-nba-return-official-releaseLaMarcus Aldridge underwent arthroscopic procedure and rotator cuff debridement on his right shoulder in April and it’s announced that he will miss the remainder of the 2019-20 season. Damn, some bad luck. That's it for Spurs i guess. Even with healthy Aldrige it would be very hard, almost impossible to reach that spot, and without him it will be impossible. Unless some miracle happens. If anyone can do it, Popovich can. Last time Spurs missed playoff was 1996/1997 season (it was also Pop's first year as Spurs coach), it will be a shame to end that great streak, but all good things come to an end. Another good team that will be much weaker is Jazz. Their 2nd best scorer, Bogdanovic will be out for the rest of the season due wrist injury. Jazz going out of the playoff in the 1st round is probably a safe bet.

Jazz is one of my favorite teams in the NBA, I have high hopes on them to compete well in the playoffs, it was unfortunate that Bogdanovic would not be able to give his contribution, they need a good 3 point shooter, so I hope other players will step up to for Bogdanovic. The effect of Bogdanovic out for the Jazz is not that big compared to LA out for spurs, so I would still bet on the Jazz here as they are very well playing as a team. Since there is no home court advantage in this series, I'll always consider betting the Jazz on whichever team they will play, without Bogdanovic which is a big contributor, I think they will be an underdog and I like that.

That is true, with Mitchell, Gobert, Conley and Clarkson Utah has much deeper roster than Spurs, but they might face some tough teams in the first round of playoff. Currenty they are 4th seeded, with 1 win advantage over Oklahoma, Rockets and Dallas. If they manage somehow to keep spots 4 and 5, I would say that their chances in first round are still pretty solid, but in case they slip to 6th or 7th place, that means they would face Nuggets/Clippers/Lakers in the first round, and we all know that means end for them. Without Bogdanovic they could easily slip to those spots. At least they have pretty good schedule for those 8 games that gives them chances to finish top 4: Thunder, Pelicans, Grizzlies, Lakers, Lakers, Spurs, Spurs, Mavericks.

Clarkson had been scoring good numbers in his season and I think they will need him more at the playoffs without Bogdanovic. I am worried about players avoiding injuries at those 8 games. It could affect the way they play knowing they are already at safe spot. They should be reminded it is just 1 win away from the 5th to the 7th rank.
