UPDATE!
We're very happy to publicly announce the new game interface, called (for the lack of better name, egh) "Sector 2".

This is a massive, and overwhelming update, so I'll try to address the most important points, and please do ask questions, as I'm certainly missing something.
1. The game has not changed. At all. Like not even a tiny bit. (But more on that later*)
2. This is just a new view into the same world.
3. Everything you learned, know and own is still there.
4. The "classic UI" will continue to receive updates, work and love, probably 20-30% of it will be further AJAX'ified. (But more on that later*)
5. The "classic UI" is still the go-to solution for mobile users.
6. The new UI will probably NEVER be good on mobile, due to it relying A LOT on desktop (and PC games) metaphors .
7. We
do want to spend manhours working on "useless" features such as nicer effects, wider range of animations, more interesting space backgrounds, etc. If you think it's a complete waste of time and we have betrayed our text-based roots, then you will not be happy with some of the updates.
8. The BUGS/TODO list has not gone anywhere, it's as big as always, and we'll continue to chug through it at our usual pace.
9. I'll be marking updates related to new UI with [SG2] tag in my posts.
10. The server is as laggy, as never-in-sync and everything-happens-in-wrong-order as ever. You will still experience weird errors
and problems. Maybe someday we will re-write the server, but don't expect it until 2020.
OK, hopefully that answers the most important questions.
* And, yes. Adding a second dimension gave us new toys to play with, especially in PvP/PvE area; we really really really want to make this portion of the game more exciting, make combat more dynamic, etc.
And having to support old UI in that area is going to slow us down, considerably. So, at some point, you may expect PvP/PvE portion to get skewed in favor of SG2 players, leaving classic UI users at a disadvantage.
