Idea For A Sustainable Alternative To The Signature Campaign To Airdrop Remaining Bytes

I have been following Byteball for some time and I think the end of free coins just by holding the balance was the right decision. However, I do not like the new way to award coins for posts via a signature campaign. Apart from the fact that the benefit to the project should be limited, users who have high levels and probably already own Bytes are preferred. To get new users -- which should be the goal -- this way is rather not sustainable.

So I have another suggestion where everyone can participate and do something good. I have long been an active member of WorldCommunityGrid where you can leverage your free computing power for meaningful projects and research, e.g. fighting cancer and diseases, and other important things. The software of WorldCommunityGrid named BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) is quick and easy to install (all major operating systems and mobile phones are supported). Anyone can set up the software in a few minutes and contribute processing power.

My idea: why do not we start a WorldCommunityGrid (WCG) Byteball team. For calculating small tasks, participants receive WCG points automatically. Via a Byteball bot, members can connect their Byteball address with their WCG username, and then receive free bytes from the bot - say, once a week - depending on the amount of WCG points earned. WCG provides a simple API with which the data can be read into the Byteball DAG via an oracle.

The effort is not big. In principle, only the bot would have to be written. I would have liked to set the task, but unfortunately I'm not a great NodeJs programmer.

If possible, the bot could also accept donations, so that the campaign could also be supported by donations and not only by the remaining bytes to be distributed. I would give a donation myself.

Do good and get bytes!
What do you think about the idea?
This. Distribute the rest of the bytes through POW (This is essentially what this method is - POW). Love the idea behind helping charity/s as well

we need more ideas for adoption than for distribution.

WCG would help adoption too, lots of people do it, most crypto guys would love PoW to be meaningful computations.

Give people a chance to make some money doing something 'Good' and it could go viral in the WCG community.

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

I've been hunting around but haven't found a solid answer to this question...

If I want to convert from a Full Wallet to a Lite Wallet (was going to do some dev stuff, but time constraints have made this impossible), I need to transfer "Assets" (for instance, TitanCoin or SilentNotary) as well as BlackBytes right? These are not able to be restored to a lite wallet from seed are they? And to be able to transfer assets (and blackbytes) I need to have bytes in the wallet to pay the transaction fee, correct?

Assuming I'm correct, and that I have a synced Full Wallet, the process would be something like:

1. Create new Lite Wallet
2. Send GBB (BlackBytes) to Lite Wallet
3. Send "Assets" to Lite Wallet
4. Send GB (Bytes) to Lite Wallet

As a person alive thanks to science I love this idea ! And it would be a transparent and fair way to distribute remaining bytes.
If Tony accept to distribute a part of the remaining bytes via this method, I'm volunteer to code the bot.
It could be interesting to create and distribute an asset too, this way when bytes distribution will be over, there will still be a motivation for people to give computing power. It would be similar to FoldingCoin but with a more convenient layer to move the tokens.

Public assets are recoverable using the seed and private assets are not. I would assume that TitanCoin and SilentNotary are public assets (like bytes), blackbytes are a private asset.

And to be able to transfer assets (and blackbytes) I need to have bytes in the wallet to pay the transaction fee, correct?

Correct.

Assuming I'm correct, and that I have a synced Full Wallet, the process would be something like:

3. Send "Assets" to Lite Wallet
4. Send GB (Bytes) to Lite Wallet

Yes (3 before 2 wouldn't be problematic). The important thing is to make sure you have bytes for the transfers.

And just in case, have a full backup ready Wink.

I think Tony would want to see a concrete plan for the distribution of bytes to participants. Is there a fixed amount of bytes given away per time period, with the amount everyone receives being pro-rated by contributions? Or does every registered participant get a fixed amount per month? How to prevent people from joining multiple times and exploiting the distribution method (maybe only real name attestation users can participate)?

I think the amount has to be discussed. If you make it simple, then you could give a Byte for a WCG point and cap the reward to 100,000 points/Bytes per week for each user. Or as you suggested, each account gets a fixed amount of bytes regardless of contribution size as long as they meet a minimum threshold. To prevent abuse by multiple user accounts a check with exisiting BTCT accounts can be made, if necessary. But I think it is not. I would keep it simple for the beginning.

This. Distribute the rest of the bytes through POW (This is essentially what this method is - POW). Love the idea behind helping science/charity as well

Yes, it is acutally PoW. But I think it's more meaningful. Because you calculate results that are made freely available to science. For example, in the project "The Microbiome Immunity Project" you help to calculate structures of proteins in the microbiome which can support to fight diseases like Type 1 diabetes and help researchers learn more about how the bacteria in and on our bodies play a role in diseases.

From the project's site:
Quote
Here's how it works: As a World Community Grid volunteer, you download a secure software program to your computer. And when your computer has any unused processing power, it will run a simulated experiment for us in the background. As we receive the results of these simulations, we'll analyze the data to find the most likely structure for each of the proteins in the microbiome. This will help us understand the role of these proteins and therefore allow us to unlock new strategies for treating diseases impacted by the microbiome.

With thousands of volunteers running millions of simulations, we can get this crucial work done in just a few years, instead of decades. And in keeping with World Community Grid's open data policy, we're committed to making the data publicly available to other scientists, which will help accelerate the advancement of scientific knowledge in this important area of research.

This is only one example of several active projects you can contribute processing power to.

As a person alive thanks to science I love this idea ! And it would be a transparent and fair way to distribute remaining bytes.
If Tony accept to distribute a part of the remaining bytes via this method, I'm volunteer to code the bot.

Freefactomizer, thanks this is a great offer. I could support you will all the needed information.
After the positive feedback from you guys, I wrote Tony what he thinks about it.

Very very good, you know, the best part of your tutorial is where you put your email for donation.
People in the so call twitter campaign are using the crypto address, I don't understand why.
I think "in byteball" twiter campaign using a registered email should be a must.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3218859.0

It is discusting to see a cryptographic address in byteball at this point.

My, aren't we dogmatic and judgemental? Why do you assert this? Do you not understand the benefits of putting different revenue streams in different boxes?

Anyone with a campaign ad in their signature -- for an organization with which they are not otherwise affiliated -- is automatically deducted credibility points.

I made a simple walkthrough for the e-mail attestation process.
Nice walk through... pretty comprehensive and step-by-step.

The only improvement that I could think of is that you might want to add a little "NOTE:" that highlights the fact that the $10 "bonus" is ONLY for users with harvard.edu and eesti.ee email addresses. Just before someone skims the post... sees "$10 bonus!" and then complains that they spent 0.5MB and didn't get their $10 Wink

The Betting Bot broke a record last week-end with a lot of bets on NHL, NBA and european soccer.
181 bets and 31GB at stake over 3 days !

You can monitor the bot activity by looking at this address: https://explorer.byteball.org/#YVGYHPL2U4UTYSYEJCI6DAXGKFYWENZC

Lately a new wiki page has been made about sport betting secured by conditional payment: https://wiki.byteball.org/Sports_betting
The third paragraph is a how-to use the Betting Bot.

No bullshit, smart-contracting is already a reality on Byteball !  Wink

I was pretty disillusioned with some of the prior updates but it's cool to see this really getting back on track. There's a lot of really simple things your team can do to greatly boost the value of this, but it's cool to see a focus on the actual product/tech.

Not to derail but if anyone wants to sell some byteballs for BTC shoot me a PM.

The market doesn't seem to share your optimism though. Byteball has lost more than 80% of its value in a matter of couple of months. Other alts have been bleeding too, but the impact on Byteball seems to be disproportionately large. My hope is with the focus on the actual product, the market also realizes its potential and corrects its valuation.

Most currencies have lost 80% of their value in the past few months... it is a macro-problem of the whole crypto echosystem which is in deep bear market.

Byteball seems to have fallen in the relative rankings amongst cryptocurrencies as well. This cannot be attributed to macro problems of the crypto ecosystem. We have to admit that the canceled air drop has affected sentiment. The hope is that future developments more than compensate for this sharp drop.

Long term view on this is that right now despite having a russian dev it is a swiss entity, i like the neutrality, and I am sure that you know better than I do that the tech tonych has developed (along with the few others that help) is top notch. This is where the true value lies.

Wink

totally forgot about the betting bot, really exited about the soccer betting on byteball, soccer betting is non existent in my area, only US sports
