A4 is indeed a load of horrible engineering (at least from a process node and effeciency standpoint). Innosilicon substantially dropped the specs 2x at least from what the intial goal was. Now, a stated above, the A4 sits barely more efficient than the Titan and most likely - much louder. The Titan is one of the only remaining, profitable home miners - no doubt about that.
The unfortunate part is, the A4 will release and sheeple miners will flock to it and hashrate will climb =(
The good news ... at least Titans will remain relevant for the foreseeable future ... as long as LTC price remains stagnate ... there wont be much demand for more development in the Scrypt ASIC arena.
So, for now ... Titan and A4 are end game for Scrypt(which is a good position for us Titan owners).

It is a familiar story for sure.  The specs on the new A4 are not that impressive to be honest.  The figures now for this miner almost match that of the Titan.  So this is clearly not a leap forward over the Titan.  270mh at 1100w is nothing to write home about.  So I have to admit I am pretty disappointed in the numbers coming from Inno on this first batch.  We are hearing that batch 2 will be in Dec.  Maybe they will improve the numbers over this first batch.

Yesterday I bought new and unused TITAN from ebay uk for  3000€.  Seller was a local and Titan 4 cubes already mining LTC for me.  This is my most expensive purchased TITAN,  but new and unused. Only 1 bad die.
No need to wait for some A4 miner.

so somebody let this sit around unplugged for, how long, 2 years? And passed on 20.000€ mining income?

Do you know the build date?

Isnt this, in a way, expected? Not in the sense that Inno failed to meet some efficiency goals but in the idea that Litecoin (Scrypt) was to be ASIC resistant. Its true that ASICs have been designed for Scrypt (obviously) but they are not as efficient as those that were designed for SHA-256. Granted, a lot more money has been dumped into SHA-256 ASIC development compared to Scrypt but still. Maybe we are reaching the limits of what can be done with our current technology?

KNC hit a homerun with the Titan.

It's possible. I shared one of two new nov 2014 never run Titan 350mh.

eBay buy it now for both of 3500 usd

They could be never run due to KNC lawsuit. (Dumb). And now sold to pay previous KNC lawsuit loss

Of (I heard) like 3-5k per unit on top of 1.5k per unit upfront to lawyers to bring

That suit KNC won.  Glad I did not get in on that class action

I wouldnt think so.... I mean, imagine the effeciency improvement of a Titan on a smaller silicon node.    Innosilicon just failed at their design and success in wafer creation.
Yes, KNC did indeed hit a homerun w/ Titan. In fact, I would go so far to say its the only crypto ASIC that ended up being "far ahead of its time".
2nd behind Titan would be bitfury's 1st gen - its 55nm design was far more effecient then even newer tech for quite some time.

Whats also interesting is Titan's ability to do scrypt-n (no other scrypt ASIC could do that). Too bad that algo died off tho.

Hi,

My KNC Titan is acting up -- I've had it for several years now and it stopped mining about two months ago.  Tried a bunch of stuff, including re-flashing the SD card back to Titan firmware 2.00 -- I had GenTarkin's mod on it for several months working fine.

Turned it off until two weeks ago, and on a lark tried turning it on, and it started mining with all four cubes!

Left it mining for a week, then installed GenTarkin's mod on it again, and let it run for several days.  No problems.

Friday I started running the Energy Saver and now one cube is dead, it shows up with only 1, 3, 4, 5 on the right (the other three show 0 through 7), AND BFGMiner keeps restarting every couple minutes.

When I found it in this state I first power-cycled it (which might have been a mistake...), and then clicked the "Stop" button in the Energy Saver section.  I reset to factory settings (-0.0366 V for all of them).  I've got the MHz set to 325 although I had it at 300 when it started working again a couple weeks ago, and when I ran the Energy Saver; I just increased them after seeing one of the cubes not working, figuring I'll get what I can from the remaining three.  I had had it at 325 for months prior to it stopping working two months ago.

It wouldn't be so bad to have it only running three cubes, but having it keep restarting BFGMiner doesn't seem right.  And I just reloaded the Advanced page and now see 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 for the first cube (but it's not mining, only the other three are).

How can I diagnose this?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Well off the top of my head (others with more expertise can chime in here) I'd say repaste (gelin extreme thermal paste 10z) Get some dc/dc copper heatsinks for them and toss the
knc heat/plate/kludge deal away...buy the maxumark bracket instead for 10 bucks (see his thread on here) get a noctura fan (3000 rpm vs 1500 rpm maybe 20% louder..)

But if the unit is from say Nov 2014 it is almost a full 2 years old ..thus repaste would be my guess (and a good cleaning with alchol the rubber stuff on knc heatsinks craps out
over time and turns to oil)

Anyway the 'slow fade' you mention above got me to clean and do the mods as a result on 700mh I gained 35mh and with gen tarkin software my temps on the dc/dc' dumped
between 10c to 15c

anyway my 2c worth ..hopefully others can address better die fix options then myself for more specifics

Hey guys,

I bought a golden ticket Jupiter long time ago hosted by KNCMiner, but they never shipped the physical unit to me after the hosting date was up. I tried contacting support@kncminer.com and sam personally to no reply, is there any way I can get my unit back?

Thanks so much.

Nope..the shipping from Sweden at best is 150 bucks from back in the day...KNC is now done all equip etc pre btc data hall is now gone imho

I just got a Jupiter off eBay (needed the case for a project..neat cases)  for $30 and $19 bucks shipping if you want to play with it and keep you golden goose paperweight go that way

marketplace in bitcointalk and eBay is the way to go ....they likely will only get cheaper as time goes on Smiley

KNC is now defunct and gone..... bankrupt poof........ebay is your best bet...they likely with shipping will be common around 50 bucks in the future is my guess ... keep an eye out

First you should have upgraded directly to 106S but tyhis is not a real problem looks like your beagle bone is broken...
Just get a new SBC here.
https://www.graperain.com/ARM-Single-Board-Computer/

replace it by carfully removing the old BBB form the control board.

If it is anything like the Titans you need to replace it with the exact BBB model in a Neptune (or if a Titan a Raspberry pi B+ 512mh) ...on the Titan that is the ONLY board
that works...I assume it may be the same as the Neptune. (If this is what you are referring to above)

luck to your fix

KNC did some wrong tax related calculations. Suddenly they had to pay more taxes than they had been able to pay. So they went bankrupt.

KNC did some wrong tax related calculations. Suddenly they had to pay more taxes than they had been able to pay. So they went bankrupt.

Really? you have any links ...even if I have to use google translate.

Is that from a real KNC bridgeboard?

C

yes, it's real real small, needed 2 pairs of glasses, to double magnify it --  and it's on qberty b1 and b2
Hm. Is qberty2 possibly cold-soldered?

C

My local manufacturer seemed to have screwed up the second batch with part sourcing which actually doesn't happen often. Unfortunately, I finally realized there is nothing I can do to the boards to prevent the Pi's from smelting them like a lightning bolt. However, for working Pi's i'll be making more bridges.

If anyone wants a bridge for a WORKING Pi, PM me. Everyone should know, that my first batch worked fine, but my larger second batch did not. So i'm going to be doing smaller batches from now on so they can be looked at with more detail before shipping. I'm also limiting customers to only those that have proof they have a working Pi, or those that accept that refunds aren't possible.

Again, I realize everyone that ordered batch 2 became royally screwed, and i'll be mailing out replacements from the third batch. If enough people want to buy the bridges to warrant a third batch.

PS. I'm also working on a way to get a PC to push the titans instead of the controller (as i've reverse engineered some of the stuff on the board and figured some things out using a cyclone IV exploit, more on that later). I just want to get rid of the Pi's and the bridge altogether instead of having to rely on them. Maybe a simple rewire board that anyone can make or that can be provided super cheap and a main controller pc/laptop.

I'm actually under an NDA due to my manipulation of the cyclone, which is why I haven't chimed in to tell anyone any of the parts. However, I assure you as soon as the sale goes over and KnC is cleared up (legally), I can divulge anything you want.

As for why the Pi is fucking with the boards themselves is just poor choice of product. If they stuck with a beaglebone this stupid problem wouldn't have been an issue in the first place. The old Pi's have a voltage flutter that the bridges absolutely cannot tolerate. This is very much a Pi problem and is present in all Pi's of version 1.1 and 1.2 when dealing with their I/O hardware connections.

I can tell you there's some double tracing going on with the board and it tends to happen when you design a PCB like that (which is why my Batch 2's were messed up after first test use). I'll be back and forth with some people, but as soon as I can I will post the exact part.

KNC is legally bankrupt sold and gone. You can contact the bankruptcy firm to confirm. The company is Kaput...miners have been liguidated on a fire sale (I got 6 of them at 1900 bucks each 400mh with shipping) this last July.

So you have been off the hook for months Smiley

Still confused on what you mean by a 'proper working pi' all my pi's were/are NEW Raspberry Pi B+ 512mb replacements....they all work.

Also the bridges of qberty 2nd batch I tested fried nothing. On my Titan board or my Pi or anything. Just sat there and did not light up. I know this because I got a ''used' Titan Pi bridge
for 0.5 BTC (figured what the hell overpay I had 100 bucks in a Neptune 6 port board and 50 bucks in Pi by that point anyway...so for (at the time btc was) price of 325 usd
I got a spare titan bridge out of it ...when you get lemons make lemonade or so my roundabout way of justifying 0.5 btc for a working bridge works)

Anyway ..used all same Neptune board parts ribbons PI Sd card etc on the 'used titan bridge' and all was hunky dory worked just fine

So again ..nothing screwed up at my end...nothing fried...it just plain did not work ...and I had 3 of them 2nd batch bridges all the same just did not light up ..board and pi
are fine that tested with above...and all working fine on the used bridge after the fact

Well shoot your info to Lightfoot... your NDA also back in the day LIKELY did not apply to telling a Tech how to FIX your product bridgeboard. on your permission to make a production run that your NDA was involved with.....otherwise you could never have told the techs in China how to reverse engineer it...if you can tell folk outside of the NDA how to make it and what parts etc..you certainly can tell your tech folk (employed or contracted) on how to fix them Smiley

If you are really paranoid tell Lightfoot the info and get a NDA out of him and have even cover if it makes you feel better.  But again KNC is gone...I have their equipment and others bought out the rest of it.

They are no more.

Well things work a little differently with intellectual property that's assigned to an entity or person. Simply liquidating their assets doesn't mean their patents or trademarks or company secrets get laid out. If that were the case, the Titan wafer specs and board pcb layouts would have already been available for free on the net.

Anyway, I never said anything was screwed up on your end. I already admitted that the second batch was botched because of a retracing/outsourcing problem with that manufacturer (which is why i'm switching to a different local fab). What I mean by working Pi, is a Pi that has no noticeable voltage fluctuations.

I've noticed the most severe Pi's that cause the bridges to burn, is the ones that ALSO have an "iffy" RJ45 jack (ethernet port). I've tested almost 100 Pi 1.1 and 1.2's and the evidence is pretty obvious. Sometimes the port just fails, and then miraculously "fix itself". This is all due to the poor optimizations of power within the Pi. This isn't to excuse KnC's design of their boards though. Their boards are poorly designed.
