Looks like Chinese are buying ripple like crazy for some weird reason. Not sure what's up but you can see BTC's market cap going down and Ripples going up.

Oh, how I'm looking forward to 20 years from now... It will be so satisfying to quote all those anti-Bitcoin posts from the recent breed of self-proclaimed prophets announcing Bitcoin's demise. Just like the Internet in the 80s and 90s, when it was all text and command line...
Keep posting anti-Bitcoiners. Verba volant, scripta manent.

Don't like ripple in any way but at least it is not intentionally malicious like blockstream Glad they are deplored by everybody with a functioning brain
I am retarded Yes. Hmm why'd you change your "*sigh*" to a "Yes." Just didn't pack that punch you were looking for? The paid, organized shilling of blockstream is traitorous to the principles espoused by Satoshi Nakamoto and the values this community was supposed to be founded on. That's Fact. Historians will know this, plain as can be. Yes. No. We will see. Look, if you are gonna shill, at least do it with style and with some (even if dubious) arguments like jbreher do. There is absolutely no point in just coming to this thread to vomit your anti-bitcoin statements. There is even less point in me trying to argue anything about your nonsense.

I'm not here to argue because we know where the score falls. Those who have comitted to lying will continue. Those deceived by those lies will continue to believe them. And the reality will continue to be true.
Bitcointalk is a censored cesspool of deception and countries are actively seeking to ban such discussion forums.

I had the impression that Jimbo actually wants his new laptop to have Windows 7! And so right he is... I'm on Windows 7 and extremely satisfied. I'm going nowhere near a version number > 7 unless I absolutely have to. Absolutely. That's the reason I chose this model. Win8 and Win10 are malware. I managed to scrape together the cash to buy one of them without selling any coin. The other I'll get in a few days. Pretty nice machine for the price... HP ProBook 450 G3 Notebook (W0S81UT#ABA)... Core-i5, 8GB DDR4, USB3, HDMI, and best of all, a Win7pro DVD in addition to the usual recovery stuff. Not high-end by any stretch but a serviceable "business class" laptop with a nice 15.6" 1080p display for under $700CAD. I was surprised to see someone still selling a decent new system with Win7. I thought I might have to get a refurb to avoid Win8/10. It's getting harder to find a decent system with legacy BIOS and my trusty old Win7 (all versions) by the TheThingy doesn't work with EUFI systems. ______ It also includes a Win10 DVD as well but that can go straight into the trash. I hate malware.

so guys
I just spent over 2 hours learning about hashgraph. I am not shilling for anything, in fact I'm not even sure there is a way to "get in" on it. They DO NOT have an ICO. It looks like they are doing some really innovative platform/protocol work to build scaleable, secure, fair ledgers.
I seems to me that one of the founding tenets of the small block philosophy is the acceptance that bitcoin can not be all things to all people. We will need robust real time ledgers for a multitude of uses, economic transactions being just one.
Not even going to link...not shilling...advising that it may be worth a look.
There is no mining. Which tells me that the network is vulnerable to Sybil attacks because there is no cost to massive spam. I have an open mind but would like to know how Iota deals with spam attacks. http://www.swirlds.com/downloads/Swirlds-and-Sybil-Attacks.pdfit's a pretty deep dive Hmm. I read that and the IOTA white paper (which is also a hashgraph / Directed Acrylic Graph). I think the answers are unsatisfactory. On Sybil attacks the Iota white paper says Sybil attacks will succeed until there is a plurality of honest actors. This is the killer quote on page 19. This indicates the need for additional security measures, such as checkpoints, during the early days of a tangle-based system. Pretty much an admission they have not solved for Sybil attacks. Bitcoin has the same problem but Sybil attacks come at a horrific cost due to proof of work. A hashgraph without proof of work has no such protection. I will stay away until I come across an approach that seems to resolve this issue.

If you are an early adopter, post which was the first GPU you ever mined with. Mine was the Radeon 6990. It was very expensive but it mined Bitcoin at almost 1GH/s, mined LTC at 800MH/s, mined X11, mined XMR, mined ETH. 40nm technology compared to the 16nm we use today. The card actually can still pull in $2-3 a day. Ran at 90C and never had any failures or fan issues.

I suspect that is why they are rolling out with permissioned networks first. There is no reason a proof of work can not be implemented in layers or modules where it proves to be necessary. I share your concerns, clearly there is a cost to everything. I do like that they are not focusing on peer to peer cash...but peer to peer...everything.

The real old school miners. They still mine but video is screwed up on them.

Can also vouch for HP ProBook with Windows 7. Still have one of these. Mined a 50 LTC block with it in late 2012. Only worth about $2.00 at the time and screwed up the HD and embedded AMD Radeon that cost me around $1K. But their multi-years warranty allows me to basically replace the components and I learned not to mine with laptop again.
