I'm just going to leave this here :

Seasteader in legal troubles, platform to be removed......

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general/1661300/seastead-couple-in-crosshairs

Edit: He's possibly in very big trouble here if they proceed with the charges as mentioned.

Highly unfortunate development. I thought Elwar had tacit approval or acquiescence for the seastead. I wonder where the disconnect is.

Very unfortunate indeed. I just recall him saying the Thai's don't really have a say since the seastead is in international waters.

The Thai's seem to differ on this. Sad

He is still inside the Thai Exclusive Economic Zone, 12 miles off the coast of Phuket.  The Thais have the right to control navigation within the EEZ, which is why they are claiming in the article that he is blocking shipping.

Edit: I googled the United Nations Law of the Sea which can be downloaded in pdf here:

https://www.un.org/depts/los/convention_agreements/texts/unclos/unclos_e.pdf

Article 60 is clear that seasteads which are outside territorial waters are still under the jurisdiction of the coastal state if within the EEZ.  I would say he needs to move to more than 200 miles offshore to be out of Thai jurisdiction.

Quote
Article 60

Artificial islands, installations and structures in the exclusive economic zone

1.   In the exclusive economic zone, the coastal State shall have the exclusive right to construct and to authorize and regulate the construction, operation and use of:

(a)   artificial islands;

(b)   installations and structures for the purposes provided for in article 56 and other economic purposes;

(c)   installations and structures which may interfere with the exercise of the rights of the coastal State in the zone.

2.   The coastal State shall have exclusive jurisdiction over such artificial islands, installations and structures, including jurisdiction with regard to customs, fiscal, health, safety and immigration laws and regulations.

3.   Due notice must be given of the construction of such artificial islands, installations or structures, and permanent means for giving warning of their presence must be maintained. Any installations or structures which are abandoned or disused shall be removed to ensure safety of navigation, taking into account any generally accepted international standards established in this regard by the competent international organization. Such removal shall also have due regard to fishing, the protection of the marine environment and the rights and duties of other States. Appropriate publicity shall be given to the depth, position and dimensions of any installations or structures not entirely removed.

4.   The coastal State may, where necessary, establish reasonable safety zones around such artificial islands, installations and structures in which it may take appropriate measures to ensure the safety both of navigation and of the artificial islands, installations and structures.

5.   The breadth of the safety zones shall be determined by the coastal State, taking into account applicable international standards. Such zones shall be designed to ensure that they are reasonably related to the nature and function of the artificial islands, installations or structures, and shall not exceed a distance of 500 metres around them, measured from each point of their outer edge, except as authorized by generally accepted international standards or as recommended by the competent international organization. Due notice shall be given of the extent of safety zones.

6.   All ships must respect these safety zones and shall comply with generally accepted international standards regarding navigation in the vicinity of artificial islands, installations, structures and safety zones.

7.   Artificial islands, installations and structures and the safety zones around them may not be established where interference may be caused to the use of recognized sea lanes essential to international navigation.

8.   Artificial islands, installations and structures do not possess the status of islands. They have no territorial sea of their own, and their presence does not affect the delimitation of the territorial sea, the exclusive economic zone or the continental shelf.

France Passes Bill to Allow Insurance Providers to Invest In Crypto & Tokens

Quote
Known as “Plan d’action pour la croissance et la transformation des entreprises,” (Pacte) the act reportedly allows insurance providers in France to invest in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) with no limit on the amount of investment.

According FXStreet, a dual provision of the act enables insurers to invest in crypto through specialized professional funds, and allows them to offer life insurance policies exposed to crypto. The new measure will also impact professional capital investment funds.

Poor Elwar  Cry  Such a shame.
I hope this won't smash the dream or hit him too hard financially.  Dude is a an inspiration and I tip my hat to him for perusing liberty & sovereignty.
Somehow I'm not surprised TPTB crashed the party so easily.  Guess you can't just step over the government no matter what loophole you exploit. Hoping he'll bounce from this and BTC will offer a much better opportunity soon.

I also though Elwar had got some kind of clearance from the authorities down there. The situation sounds like deep shit. I agree the Thai government isn't going to do anything drastic as incarceration/death penalty trial if the heroic couple beats it quickly. The issues are cost and unconvenience. Is it sane, or even possible, to settle with the seastead 200 miles off the coast? A sensible "what do I know" analysis tells me it's still in alpha stage, beta at best.

What's more, I suppose that now those two names are on some sort of blacklist, so it might be even wise to consider Thailand an unfriendly region.

I wish you good luck. Keep us posted, Elwar!

Unfortunately the one with the biggest wrench oft wins the day. He dosent strike me as the type to not have contingency planning in full effect. Hopefully the whole thing blows over or the shenanigans are confined to a internationally recognized court of law.

At least its not being swept under the rug and now that the word is out a support base can develop.

The Malacca strait is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. It is also known to harbor smugglers and pirates along the eastern shores of Sumatra and so is heavily patrolled by many sea faring nations.

Law of the Sea and Admiralty Law are very different from normal common law and statutes and while you are on the high seas you are literally captain of your vessel. As such subject to random inspection, search, seizure and detainment by law enforcement and naval elements at whim.

I admire the courage and fortitude its taken to get the whole seastead thing going as far as it has but I fear they have a tough road ahead of them. I wish them the best of luck.

Elwar, the Philippines has some 7000 islands, so you can pretend to be some fisherman around here, but not separate from the state unless you set up in the middle of disputed waters (not a good idea as pirates or soldiers or whatever may attack). Plus the PH Central Bank and/or CEZA (Cagayan Economic Zone Authority?) gave licenses to at least 10 crypto exchanges here. (I don't know the other 8, I only use the 2 big ones.)

I suppose he could tow it to local places and just use it under local laws...hey...that is something I guess...

still, a pretty cool way to start a community and get away from it all...

What to say..things look pretty good from where I am sitting. The market seems intent on recovery. Continuation in this price range can be taken as a positive indicator imho. The longer we drift sideways the better our chances for more upward movement and the less likely it become to see lower lows.

It was no small feat to maintain support at $5k after the run up we experienced. Again I take it as a good sign and potentially bullish. #dyor

Right now the 6 hour chart has the best look. Battling sideways along the top of this cloud hopefully.

The Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command and Phuket Marine officers yesterday inspected the seasteading structure but no one was found on the steel and aluminum structure which is attached to the sea-floor. An order to remove the ‘seasteading’ structure is now in the process of being prepared.
