I don't know about you guys, but I'm about ready to see a $1000 USD dildo.

I wonder what a $1000 dildo might look like...
My wife's dildo is a $200 model and it's already quite impressive.

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

There appears to be a bundle of evidence pointing to the fact that psychiatric drugs shorten life-span generally. Also and more specifically, neuroleptic malignant syndrome caused by antipsychotics, serotonin syndrome caused by antidepressants, etc., can be fatal. I'm guessing then that the deaths caused by mental illness can be attributed to the medications mentally ill people sometimes take. Side effects, if you will.

Antidepressants are evil. I watched 2 of my family members slip away mentally years before the body finally succumbed, all under doctors orders. One got so bad that they started crying at stop lights because the anticipation of waiting for it to turn green was too much. Won't take any pills myself or seek doctor's advice unless its critical.  Its astonishing how many Americans use these things.  The zombie apocalypse is real.

Care to explain why?

Caring about the environment is for pussies. You're supposed to eat raw meat and fart diesel fumes if you want to be a right wing Alpha in this day and age. If you want to prove yourself go bleach a coral reef and burn down a rain forest.

I am sure that people in Cleveland appreciate that the erie canal does not catch on fire like it did in the 70s, and people in Los Angeles appreciate that they can breath decently well these days.

After a traumatic event i was suffering from depression and anxiety, got SSRI prescribed, took them for 10 months (half dose) and reduced slowly for half a year. Every little step down was a two weeks lasting nightmare. I replaced the SSRI slowly with st. johns wort extract, reduced that for another 2 years. All the three years was hard mental work, but i got finally rid of depression and anxiety. I'd never take these pills longer than i really need to.
Doctors plan was to take them for a lifetime. Only for the best of me, i'm sure...  Roll Eyes

Antidepressants are evil.

If I have a religion, it is my belief in the immutability of the laws of thermodynamics.  I believe they apply beyond the material plane.

There is no free lunch.  All equations will balance.  Joy has no meaning without sorrow.

Any attempt to circumvent pain will be ultimately futile.  Attempting to borrow happiness from the future is ill advised.

There's happiness and sadness. And then there's the total ruin of a normal brain's balance.

Antidepressants have zilch to do with whether you're a bit glum or not.

My own mind's stability is as solid as a reasonably-sized continent but I've seen enough people who weren't to know there was something extremely fundamental going wrong with them. When you think about the infinite intricacy of what's up top I'm deeply impressed at how many functional people there are.

It still amazes me how primitive psychiatric treatment is though. And no doubt many are getting unhelpful 'help'.

My legacy account is broken for some reason such that I can't quote quotes anymore. But^
Word around the campfire is that David Foster Wallace didn't hang himself on account of his depression returning so much as he did because he was in severe protracted post acute withdrawal from an old school MAO-I called Nardil. Similarly, William Styron, author of Sophie's Choice, attributes his late onset mental illness to a prescription for Halcion, a particularly ferocious medicine in the benzodiazepine family. Robin Williams was thought to be hallucinating and out of his mind with DAWS, dopamine agonist withdrawal syndrome, at the time of his death. Chris Cornell was high on Ativan. Drugs are drugs. They worked for me for years. By 'worked' I mean I was functional. But drugs are probably bad. IDK. Booze works for some people but it destroys some of other people. I'm totally sober and no longer functional. Tanstaafl? I was having a lot of fun at the time. In hindsight, being drugged all my life probably didn't do me any favors. But hindsight is 20/20. I seem to remember being a glum chap before medicine. Then I went on to have a solid creative life. Now I'm in withdrawal and my brain is broken in every possible direction but up. I'd like to make a sweeping judgment about it. But I can't.  I just don't know.

Furthermore, I've recently had a lot of fun getting familiar with high quality, 50-States-Legal CBD vape products, and found stuff that works well to further keep me relaxed, calm, and clear-headed.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Bob.  It takes a lot of guts to discuss these things out in the open.  I wish you the best in dealing with your depression.

However, I would like to warn you about the vape products; be extra super duper careful about your sources.  There's no regulation restricting the ingredients of those vape cartridges, it requires you trusting your sources.  I have a cousin who sells head-shop products wholesale, and one of his suppliers substituted a CBD product he normally buys (and uses) with some shady shit of unknown origin.  My cousin got really sick from that stuff, and could have died it was so bad.  As far as I know no one has died from smoking good-old-fashioned ganja.  The dispensaries around here have plenty of CBD flowers that are nearly devoid of THC.  That may be a better option if it's available to you...  Just be careful.

I read it somewhere a while ago, there isn't a single mentally normal human being on earth. We are all mentally sick on a scale from 0 to 10. (0 isn't included)

Ok, whatever. I'm drunk. Rick is out getting his hair cut, so it's story time, I guess...

Mental illness is a very real bag of shit, and drugs are very powerful tools in mitigating symptoms, hopefully allowing for a "more normal" life. I can't remember if I've ever admitted to the thread or not, but mental illness awareness is one of the causes I support; suffering from depression and anxiety myself. Better living through chemistry. I recognize I will be on prescribed benzos and SSRIs for the rest of my natural life, because I got dealt a shitty genetic hand, that we can trace back three generations.

Jordan Peterson recently made headlines for speaking about his dependency on Klonopin during his wife's cancer treatments, and his subsequent difficulties in weaning himself off of benzos, experiencing indescribably horrific withdrawal symptoms, that I had temporarily undergone during the process of my therapist working to balance me out on what works best. Benzo withdrawal is not something easily describable to those that have never undergone the experience. (tl;dr: take all the psychic horror of "Dante's Inferno", and inject it directly into your heart)

I was briefly undergoing a Klonopin regimen, after recognizing that "fast acting" Xanax was starting to wear off on me too quickly, during one of my spirals. The therapist changed me from the Xanax equivalent of Klonopin, and I started about two months of popping Klonopin "like candy" (6 times a day - a bit fruity, if you ask me...)

Anyway, we had a breakthrough after I complained about the dosing frequency of Klonopin, and finally got balanced on Xanax Extended Release doses every 6 hours. I can live with that.

Furthermore, I've recently had a lot of fun getting familiar with high quality, 50-States-Legal CBD vape products, and found stuff that works well to further keep me relaxed, calm, and clear-headed.

As for the SSRI's, yeah, they aren't perfect, they have side effects that are unpleasant, but at the end of the day, I would rather have knowable side-effects than be crippled with depression. I do worry about the long-term exposure to the benzo and SSRI drugs, as I've been on them for a couple decades now, and fear I'm likely to develop low-grade Parkinsons later in life, but I'll deal with that bridge if and when I get to it.

CBD on the other hand, is really nice. Glad that is available to me, legally. Some very high quality, 50-States legal products are entering the marketplace. It will be a wonderful world when THC is 50-States legal.

Keep on HODLING, brothers. Back to my beer. It's starting to get warm.

 *hugs and kisses. no homo*
Wow, what a journey brother, keepin it real, love it! Thanks for sharing CBD feedback. And congrats to passing yet another achievement! 2000 merit mark.

Most therapists would tell you that there isn't such a thing as "normal" if you are judging normal by comparing yourself with others.

As long as depression is a reaction of lifestyle, you can heal it yourself. I don't say it's easy, though.
For example, i had a combination of poor self esteem and using the very wrong substance (LS*) after a traumatic stress event.
On this last trip of mine, the whole fucking world became dull and dark, every human being i saw was just crawling in its own sadness. "Noone can ever be truly happy as a human".
When i came down, everything went gone but these feelings persisted. I came over this with temprorary use of SSRI and changing the mindset that led to my poor self esteem.

On the other hand, when depression is the cause, not the symptom, because of unbalanced hormone levels or brain chemistry, medication is about the only option.
It's just that doctors tend to get used to easy solutions that work, so both types of depression are treated quite the same way.
That's part of the unhelpful help problem, i guess.

To say that I am "up-to-date" on the current black market problems plaguing the nation, would be an understatement. Compassionate and rational THC legalization is another cause that I am passionate about, and it's extremely troubling to hear about the black market problems causing harm to people people. To me, it seems the only rational thing to do is federally legalize and tax THC product, requiring licensing and lab-testing. It would neuter the black market overnight.

I'm not sure why manufacturers are using Vitamin E Acetate as fillers, for example. How does a product that tests over 300% for acceptable Myclobutanil entering the marketplace ? It converts into cyanide gas when heated and inhaled.

As for the 50-States-Legal CBD vape products, it's completely above board, lab tests proudly displayed, and self-regulating towards wellness. At least with the legitimate sources I have settled on, after a four month period of sampling a wide variety of offerings.

One of the big problems with mind altering drugs is that, well, they make permanent changes to the physical brain structure. And people being different as they are, there is no way to know how a given person will react to a given drug without trial and error.

Drugs are an easy and quick fix, but for most people it is not a matter of a broken biology but of living in an environment that is in conflict with their biological nature. If you know psychology and understand yourself, then there is a healthier way to fix things.

I had a lot of stress, to the point where I was functionally broken. I couldn't be around people, couldn't deal with them, just stayed home and was drinking myself to death. We don't have a culture of drugs in my country and no real help for those that need it unless they are literally going to die without it, so I had to fix things on my own.

I identified the causes of my stress. This is different for different people because, again, people are different. For me the solution was to buy a boat and sail into a storm until it got boring. And it worked. 75% of my stress disappeared. I started doing some in-person trading with people, and can function on a base level in wider society. But there is still a long way to go, and the next step is to travel the world until I find a country with a better culture than the one I'm in. It's a lot of fucking work and expensive and slow, but it works and it works without drugs. Except alcohol. It's needed to regulate stress levels until I find an environment that fits my personality.

what about oil? the oral stuff...

If you are asking about CBD tinctures and sublinguals, there are a lot of high quality products available. There is one vendor I came across, both for vaping and tinctures, that I just can't stand the flavor profiles of, but check out "For the People / FTP" CBD as an example. It's full spectrum phyto-good-shit CBD all testing <0.3% THC, with the extraction processes being so refined and clean, that you might as well be drinking pure organic juice-cocktails.

CO2-extraction methods are one helluva fucking thing.

We (wife and me) settled with a local product. Grown outdoors, bio stuff. $35 for 10ml at 10% CBD and less than 0,3% THC and therefore legal. The dude that makes this oil is into hemp since decades.
I should try to vape it.

The growing right wing of our government wants to ban CBD, though. Don't ask about arguments, because they ain't got any.
Tomorrow is our re-election. I'm curious of the outcome.
