It looks like the LTC network switched over about 20min ago... showing no v8 and below in the desired version graph now. (not counting the mean indicators)

Hello,

Further to this post, where I show how you can use twidge and swatch to keep you informed via twitter about share and block events in the p2pool log, it occurred to me that if you are doing well at mining, the notifications can get a bit much.

Here is an alternative that gives you a daily direct message via twitter to tell you how many blocks and shares you created the previous day:

You need to install and setup twidge of course:

Code:
sudo apt-get install twidge
twidge setup

And then use

Code:
crontab -e

And add the following command:

Code:
5 0 * * * twidge dmsend paulkoan "$(cat /path/to/p2pool/log | grep $(date -d '1 day ago' +%Y-%m-%d) | grep -c SHARE) Shares, $(cat /path/to/p2pool/log | grep $(date -d '1 day ago' +%Y-%m-%d) | grep -c BLOCK) Blocks"

What this does runs a command 5 minutes after midnight, and scans the p2pool log for the previous day, getting a count of shares and blocks, then direct messages them to the userid in twitter:

Code:
24 Shares, 3 Blocks

You can modify the message of course, and change this to an update command instead if you prefer to public tweet your progress.  You can of course put the command in a script if you don't want this huge line in your crontab Smiley   You might want to modify to remove DOAs also.

woohoo, I got the last block!  cgminer reports best share is 14.9m.  Smiley

I'm curious why I didn't get a namecoin block too though.  I'm on merged mining, and I thought if you get a bitcoin block, you get a namecoin block.

Do a "namecoind listtransactions" command, see if the last one listed says 'generated'.

You won't see the generated coin as part of your balance until it has the usual 120 confirmations.

Yes all merged finds belong to yourself - there isn't a sharechain for each merged coin - they all go to the p2pool owner.

Ahhh.. right you are.  Didn't realize they don't show up like bitcoins do until 120 confirmations.  Thanks!

Hmm, seems this doesn't work because p2pool cycles the log at a frequency greater than once a day.  Does anyone know how to lengthen the time p2pool keeps logs?

Hmm that's odd, my logs never cycle, but maybe that is windows thing.

It is not a Windows thing. It happens on Linux too @ 100 MB.

10000 namecoins is almost a block of bitcoins at current rates.  If that's a pittance for you, send them my way please. Smiley

i had to disable i0coin merged mining because it consumed about as much resources as the bitcoind client (huge blockchain size)

10000 namecoins are like $600 or something (ed: nm, you'd run out of buy orders.. if you tried to mass sell all at once, maybe more like $400?)

Dacentec, best deals for US dedicated servers. They regularly restock $20-$25 Opterons with 8-16GB RAM & 2x1-2TB HDD's (ofc, usually lots of other good stuff to choose from).  I did a Serverbear benchmark of one of my $20/mo Opteron (June last year), it's here.  Have had about a half dozen different servers with Dacentec, & none have failed to sustain at least 40MB/s (burst higher). My favorite is a 12-month rent-to-own ZT Systems 2XL5520 16GB 2x2TB SATA for $40/month (got lucky with the 'off-brand', haven't seen a RTO 2xL5520 for under $50/mo since -- at least for monthly contracts).  wholesaleinternet.com has some ancient 2-core intel CPUs @ $10/mo sometimes (I got an Intel Core 2 6300 @ 1.86GHz, with a 250GB HDD with 46000 hours on it, LOL. $20 @ Dacentec is much better, if you can grab one). joesdatacenter.com (same location as Wholesale Internet) also occasionally has specials (or if you don't want to wait, it has an AMD Opteron 170 @ $16/mo).

It is in the source, in logger.py.   But that is fine, I now extract the SHARE|BLOCK lines from the log periodically, and save them into a separate file, and then run the scan against those.

We seemed to have made the big switch to v9.

It's helping me, my 12% stale rate is now paltry compared to the pool's 26%.

That also means the advertised 360GH/s is really 266GH/s when you take the stales out.  Could be some long blocks in our future..
