I noticed ho some people do devcoin giveaways and stuff on bitcointalk... Do you think we should devote a share from the bounty list to be used as a giveaway to increase awareness of devcoin and devtome?

I think I've found the problem with my tx:
I created an address and then used "move" to transfer funds to that address.
The address wasn't seen on the network, since "move" doesn't broadcast anything.
When I tried to send some DVC to Vircurex, it got stuck because the address that had funds was not seen on the network.

Ami I right?

Why did you use move? Whats the proper procedure to use
it if it doesnt broadcast to network like a send?

A simple challenge response system on incoming emails has been added to the SimpleMachines forum at http://trollkeep.com/forum/ . Once the white list SMF system mod is installed it will be used to see if the challenge response is required or if the email can be directly delivered. Right now every incoming email is challenged.

Greetings good folks,

I just started writing for the Devtome last round, and have enjoyed it. Been lurking this thread a little while, picking
up tidbits here and there.

For the past few days, I have been thinking I'd like to do a podcast, tentatively titled "This Week In Cryptocurrency".
I am inspired by a show called "Mad Money Machine" which is a new Let's Talk Bitcoin show. My angle is a bit
more skewed toward mining operations, though I can't quite squeeze it into "This Week In Cryptomining" so I
think i'll have to go a bit more broad, still have to think about the title a bit more. I am so involved in staying up
with various bits of news and what is happening with the (mostly GPU) mining sphere that it just kind of makes a certain sense.

Anyway, what I would like to do, is release such a thing under the auspices of Devtome. So, i'm curious if
there is any way that might be possible, or if people would be into it. It'd be great to be able to do this
and get some shares for it! Otherwise maybe as a bounty of some kind? Something else, maybe a specific Devcast / Devpod
section or site?

So, looking for further thoughts and comments on this idea. I'm pretty excited about doing something along these lines.

All the best,
Overture

Posting the scripts of the shows to DevTome and providing links to the video versions should garner a few shares.  Wink

Yep, I would do the scripts, but there's not going to be a video version, unless I mistake your meaning. Audio-only production.

Hello!
I mounted a DVC node in a VPS with the address:

http://95.85.36.199

I also installed Wordpress to have a nice cms and I put the live stats of the node in the widget area (looks cool!)

I saw in Devtome at the bounty page (http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_bounty_now) they want more nodes and I'm willing to help.

http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=how_to_create_a_devcoin_node_in_a_vps_for_noobs

My question is if I did the setup correctly to be considered? or I need to do something more?

Contact Markm, he'll tell you what is needed and add you to his node list. Until I hear otherwise, I'll assume that your node is working correctly and give you 2/5 of a share as long as it's working. Web wallets can not account for generation devcoins, is your address 1DJb19DHi23yaWXfbGP8fKCxMSizyAiN7X from your computer?

Just a quick question, I got the latest wallet from here: http://devcoin.org/devcoin-wallet.html#Windows

And whenever I open it, it seems to be giving me an antivirus warning when I scan it with ESET, is anybody else getting this? Or is there a known MD5 that I can check against? I haven't opened the wallet yet or unrar'd it yet for that exact reason and usually ESET is pretty good about not giving me false flags

Would better quality writing do anything to address the issues you raise or do you see the whole thing as unworkable? ...
I agree with the vibe of what you write. If I didn't I wouldn't bother being here and I wouldn't bother making these points. Instead I'd just take the money and shut the hell up. But I view your basic objectives and philosophy and draw different conclusions.

Perhaps the simplest way to put it, is that any direct resources put towards one idea or work-ideal cannot be put towards another. I have zero issue with writing. I read. I write on devtome, I'm an admin on devtome and spend quite a lot more time on it than I need to - because I think such efforts matter even if only for concept. But I'm also a realist. I read most submissions, I have a fair idea of content and feel I can draw general inferences on motivations.

You're misunderstanding my perspective. I'm not a developer and I'm not guaging writing as less valuable as anything else. Quite the opposite, I'm repeatedly trying to make the point that a project focusing on open-source should treat all creative forms more equally. Administering a revenue element to one or more forms (paid direct or advertising or other) should be a bonus, not a principle, and justified by that form. Because devcoin serves to reward open-source I don't think it's too much to ask that involved participants play a role in building and supporting their relative creation base first, rather than being takers only. If they don't value their work why should I?

It's not an issue of not being workable/not, it already 'works' - just mostly for some over others. Quite similarly to bigshot bitcoin miners winning over everyone else. But bitcoin doesn't stake any claim on equity or reward for work or open-source. In general, I don't think the 'whole thing' justifyies its subsidy - yet perhaps. So it's simply that while I don't rate writing as less important than anything else I also don't rate it as more important. We should always be trying to objectively question whether the process is working as it should.

I won't take offence at anything you say. In response though, I would ask a couple of questions:
1) Does Devcoin paying us such sums to lay our creative souls bare add or subtract from the concept of growing, sustainable open-source (all open source) support?
2) Would resources be better utilised on those who value their work first for creation's sake, or does incentivising rolling input on content terms for monetary reward trump this?

Thank you for not taking offence, and helping me understand your views. I think maybe my own views are very simplistic and what I hope, or wish probably is not an answer to your questions.

Who do I ask the question: WHY does Devcoin/Devtome pay me for my writing? Is it because it is valued on it's own merit, or is it just a mechanism for building the Devcoin community?

If the latter is the case, maybe its just about deciding how big the resource should be and setting a price that's worth to get done and putting up "bounties" or some such for x number of words on certain subjects like any of the other projects Devcoin funds?

The truth is that it's probably a bit of both: all knowledge has a varying degree of value, and any community that becomes inactive simply fades away.

At the very least devtome has got people talking and doing stuff, and that is valuable. The questions weisoq and the rest have been asking is whether there are more valuable things that could be done either instead of, or in addition to devtome.

It's very tricky putting a price on knowledge...because no one knows when the right ideas will combine in the right person's mind and change the world.

No, is a web wallet, I'll change it, thanks for the observation.

Hola Juan:
En Devtome mencionan que es una característica que pondrán pronto, no hay una fecha aún.

Hello Juan:
In Devtome they say it's a feature they will put in soon, there's not a date yet.

I have a question about the devtome ratings for round 32. It seems that there isn't an article of me on the round 32 list. Last round I got a bad rating because I published a draft (my bad...). I thought I could get a better rating this round. Is it possible to rate at least one article of every writer with > one share in the active round?
