Just read one of dogies hardware guides and he posts settings for BTCG, Eligius and ghash. Maybe have a chat?

Its hard to compete with a pool with no fees and mindless miners who dont know any better.

Do we really need to grow outside of keeping up with the percentage increase in difficulty? I don't mind fewer blocks with larger payouts. As long as we see a block every day or two, the smaller pool is fine with me. I'm sure Doc would like to see if grow though since the bigger the pool, the more fees he collects.

Doc is pretty honest pool op but the game has change a lot. in house 4 or 5th is a home miner top end. maybe 10th. for some of us. In the winter I could run 20 s-3's but that means A little more then I want in house. So I have gear hosted. I can't handle variance too much stress. So I use bigger pools It is easy to use a 5% pool say 10 blocks a day. but a 1 percent pool 2 blocks a day . is a bit harder to do. 3 bad days in a row can mean a lot for some of us.

Are paying hosting fees, etc... daily? Taken over a month or even a couple weeks your payout works our to about the same as any other pool. The whole process is a little less fun when we have to wait a day or more for good news. I miss the days of seeing multiple blocks per day but such is life. If you need the money out of your mining Daily I guess a smaller pool could pose some problems. Otherwise, I don't see the drawback. Is there some other drawback that I'm not seeing? so what do you all do with your old usb miners, (the obsolete ones)? or dont they become obsolete>?
Most people sell them on Ebay or elsewhere just before they become completely obsolete. I have also hear of a couple guys using them to solo mine. In general, your odds of every hitting a block solo mining with old or older hardware is really really slim but maybe, just maybe, you might find a block that doesn't take a huge amount of work. For guys that do this, its kind of like playing the lottery and hoping to hit it big, but knowing that they likely never will.

Separate topic.... can anyone provide some advice for setting up a mining business in the US? Since I'm paying all of this money in electricity and equipment it would make sense to form a business and claim the power costs and hardware purchases as business expenses. My setup isn't huge - only 1.5 TH/s once my new S3's arrive - so we're not talking a ton of money. Any advice of thoughts would be much appreciated.

Believe it or not, I still have mine mining away on BitMinter! They add around 9-10 gh/s to my total (~400 Gh/s) which is made up of a mishmash of equipment, including two S1's. They were my first ASIC miners and got me started. Perhaps, one day, there will be some useful alt-coin using sha265 that I could point these to.

Every time that I check the Live Stats and this block is still going I cry a little inside. Fingers crossed that we crack it soon and see some green numbers in the latest blocks column immediately after!!!!!!
