Could you (or someone else) elaborate on this? In what sense is making use of a public blockchain more secure than setting up your own private blockchain for internal uses?

I’ll take a stab at what I think Jared may be implying.
A public blockchain has the eyes of the world on it, so if it is compromised the whole world will know about it. This is the case for Bitcoin and Digibyte. On the other hand, a private blockchain can only be trusted as far as its members can be trusted, so if private members were to collude they can manipulate the chain without the knowledge of anyone else. This is a bit like the existing setup within banking already. It sounds like a better solution to some banks, it allows them to take advantage of the technology while controlling the amount of wool in front of their customer’s eyes perhaps and we all know we can trust these guys not to pull any funny shit, don’t we?
If it is truly for your own internal uses, then of course this should only concern you but is this truly the case?

mining is not so good now

Mining is the life blood of DigiByte and is always good as it is active membership of the community. Digibyte has 5 algorithms to mine on, a cpu would probably fair better on one that isn’t dominated by ASICs. Only the miners can cut off the supply of new coins or indeed release them all. If you do not mine you contribute nothing to the control of the supply of the coin. It’s true that many people mine for instant profit but community members also mine or should mine to protect their investment. So any mining is good!

We would love to get some updated mining feedback from people. What is working and what is not. As mentioned by Jumbley DigiByte has 5 separate mining algorithms.  Each other counts fo 20% of new blocks mined. Sha256 and Script are mined by Asics.

We would like to get feedback as to the success people are having on Skein, Groestle and Qubit.

Last week was a great week for DigiByte! We have met with a lot of major institutions. This process is a slow one as a lot of talking to the involves educating them.  The gist is we are positioning the benefits of DigByte as a public chain to them. Thanks for the update, so here are my questions;

- Do you agree that it's not very handy to have a wallet that is 10 gigabyte? Will that change in the future? will there be a lite client?

- Can you tell us a little more about updating the code protocol? Will you hire external expertise to make sure the whole system runs nice and smooth?

I think you are doing a great job, the whole picture makes sense and on paper should definitely succeed, however I think DigiByte tecnology needs to get updated as well

Perhaps if Jared gets a lot of questions with regard to explaining 'blockchain' and its uses, write blogposts about it as well and put it on the Digibyte website. If it's good content, it will attract website visitors to the Digibyte website. The input/questions Jared receives can be put on the website including an explanation / answer on the subject, so you have regular new content on your website (which is good for your SEO (and thus findability)). It does not even have to be always related to Digibyte itself, but readers of the blogposts will connect Digibyte as a reliable source of information on blockchain content. However, only do this when you are sure you can maintain the regular content updates; it looks poor/dead if you have only old blogposts.

With my GPUs, I have been staying with the qubit algo, it seems to be the best for power consumption. I have also mined skein & groestl with GPU, but mostly I stay with qubit, and very rarely I'll go back to skein for awhile if I want a change. I keep all my mined DGB from qubit/skein/groestl in my wallet.

I have two small scrypt asics, I used to mine DGB with them, but for the past several months I have them running on a multipool (DGB is one of the coins it switches to from time to time). I seem to get better results this way  I take the coins I mine on multipool and sell them on bittrex/poloniex and use that to buy DGB.

I use the CPU on my linux box to mine DGB-qubit. I know that it's not really a good idea because it uses around 30-40 watts I think. (I'd have to check my kill-a-watt meter). But I do it because it's a fun project and I don't care that much about the power usage.

I've never mined sha256. Sometimes I wish I had a small sha256 asic.

i m now mining ether but i mined a lot on skein, it s the best algo for amd gpu's with cgminer

but it s hard to find information about speed and what algo's for what gpu and what is the best miner to use, the information what you find is outdated and links to miners are dead

i had to figure out on my own, when i bought my gpu's  and figure out that the best deal is R9 380's (then the r7360, the 390 is to much overpriced)  and the r9 270 was the best in the 200 series, and nvidia's are overpriced too for skein mining

for skein mining best is cgminer 3.7.3

Ive stuck with mining Qubit as well.  The blocks Factory used to be pushing almost 3GH but since the price has gone down its fluctuated alot.  There is one big player with over 2GH of power.  I really wish i knew what they were running...

The past 2 months of mining have been pretty difficult, even though we have 5 algos, I only have 1 small rig so the big guns still sway the difficulty a ton.  It is nice to see Digispeed working so well though.

I mined 21000 DGB in the last 24h with 4 GPUs. (3*280x and 1*7970GHz if I remember correctly, total valid 936.79 MH/s for last 12h) cgminer reports the 280x's running at around 270MH/s.
I've thought about trying out Qubit, but haven't had the time. I have also no remote access to the miners and it's a 2 hours drive...
Any information from other users regarding hashrates and amount mined with what algos would be welcomed.
I have another box with 5*280x that I'm going to mine DGB with, but it's not running due to motherboard issues.

but you can setup qubit miner in case, difficulty drops  or skein goes to high

so you have an  280x what run at 270?? weird  because r9 390 does less than 280mh
and r9 380 does 200mh, i had running 20x 380  for 4000mh but real speed with the rejected are more at 3700
