Dark Wallet article in Wired Magazine:

‘Dark Wallet’ Is About to Make Bitcoin Money Laundering Easier Than Ever

http://www.wired.com/2014/04/dark-wallet/?mbid=social_fb

still effectively in beta and they get a wired article......!

Quote
Dark Wallet’s developers admit it’s still at an early stage, and that, like any cryptography project, it will only prove itself and patch its bugs over time. Taaki says, for instance, that the software will eventually combine more than two users’ payments in every CoinJoin transaction, and also integrate the anonymity software Tor to better protect users’ IP addresses. In its current form, Taaki says Dark Wallet protects IPs only by obscuring them behind the server that negotiates CoinJoin transactions, which may still leave users vulnerable to identification by sophisticated traffic analysis. “It’s not foolproof, but it’s a strong tool,” says Taaki. “And it’s going to get better.”

If you have a rig with 15 MH  you will calculate the Manual Share Difficulty like this just on p2pool nodes : 15000 khash * 0.00000116 = 0.0174
The settings will be like this

./sgminer -k darkcoin -o stratum+tcp://scorp.hopto.org:7903 -u WALLET+0.0174 -p x

Ok, I tried my hand at a flow chart again.  I'm not sure this is accurate, but I think it works this way ??  Cheesy

My first though on seeing this was, UGH, this is far too complex! But actually it breaks down to less than 10 lines of code. (Or about 27 unintelligible characters of perl  Cheesy)

There is a poll about DRK price that is sometimes quoted here, showing that ~1/3 of users polled think drk will reach valuation of $1bl by the end of 2014.

Fast forward to January 2015 - I'm sitting happily and thinking "next month it's the Super Bowl... if we only prepared a commercial during the year, and secured aside some drk for it when they were cheap, we could have broadcasted our ad and seen as the 'Macintosh of the 21century' that came to save everyone from Big Brother...

Back to the present - we opened up the Darkcoin logo creative and it brought us far. I think it's time we open-up and start rolling a commercial video via crowd-creative. I found these 2 services but there are probably more.

Thanks for the answer.

If I have my own P2P node and my supposed difficulty of 0.0174, can I set my miner difficulty to be 0.005 to reduce the stale? As the network load is not a problem due to local P2P node?

I agree. We need a good video ASAP. But I'm not sure if crowd sourcing is the best option for video. I think we should pay to have it done by the best talent. Maybe http://www.epipheo.com

Dumb question if someone can help: How can one verify that they sent money to someone if its anonymous?  Is there a way of overcoming this or are there various sending methods?  Anon payments are great but tracked payments have their place as well.

Transactions are still verified by the distributed blockchain as usual, it's just impossible for a third party to determine where the DRK coming out of any given address went by inspecting the blockchain, as they are redirected (off-chain) by the masternode system.

So you can see that the recipient has got it, they can see they've got it, everyone else is kept in the dark unless they have access to your wallet or the recipients wallet, in which case you're screwed anyway.

I've been struggling with this question myself.
From an accountancy and commercial point, such mechanism must be built in.
However, I can live without it for the time being until Darksend is out of beta, tested and accepted as anonymous. Then we can struggle to expand it.

Note that I might be COMPLETELY of-track, and Evan might have already thought and implemented something into Darksend...

Yes, you can set how much you want difficulty, but normally it is calculated like this your hash rate in kH  * 0.00000116.

Are you sure???
Can I get a confirmation on this - that sender receiver CAN SEE the transaction details (i.e. from what address it originated)?
If so, imho it has HUGE implications on privacy breach...

Anyone know why it takes sgminer 45 minutes to start mining Darkcoin.

I am using XUBUNTO

Each and every time takes 45 mins to start.

The first time sgminer starts will create a .bin file (the kernel). If the CPU of the machine is too slow it can take a long time. However this is supposed to happen only the first time it runs and then the .bin file is stored on the directory. If you are using some kind of read-only medium (flash/cd etc) that doesn't allow writing, the .bin file will need to be re-created every single time you run the program. 45 minutes is too long anyway, but use "top" in another console to check memory and cpu use during these 45 minutes. If it's high cpu use, increased ram etc, then the kernel is being created. If nothing happens, then it's something else.

But Darkcoin is not a scrypt-based.  I highly doubt their asic would work with x11. If asics did come it would definitely drive to block reward down to 5 and probably help the price that way... so it probably wouldnt be that bad tbh.  Even though I love mining x11 Sad

It won't work. They made the error of listing Darkcoin as an scrypt coin, which is not.

IMO Darkcoin will need a large number of privately-held ASICs to secure it. We, miners, tend to lose focus of the important thing which is network security, caring only about how our GPU should still mine the X or Y coin.

Darkcoin is not a meme coin, an animal coin, a country shitcoin or whatever the hell coin that nobody cares to attack it. It has a target painted on its back because it threatens the establishment's ability to conduct surveillance on money flows. As such we can bet that the NSA has already X11 ASICs ordered to be ahead of the game. It would be highly unlikely that with their multi-billion $$$ budget they would not have taken such a step.

The question is this: Do we want only NSA to have X11 asics and be able to 51% attack it at any time (or get the bulk of the issued new coins to use them for Darksend nodes), or is it more desirable to have a level playing field?

You can't have a bitcoin-killer that isn't secure or that has a potential security threat due to mismatched level of mining equipment between the adopters and some agency that has orders to destroy the currency, or cast shadows of doubt in its usability.

Ok, I like to mine DRK too with my GPUs but I'd take an ASIC-secured network anyday over me having my GPU to get my 1 DRK vs knowing the NSA has ASICs ready to make my GPU-mined DRKs worthless, along with the entire network.

99% of the coins out there pose no threat to the establishment and as such can toy around with cpus and gpus, knowing that nobody will attack them. Darkcoin doesn't have that kind of luxury. It will need all the hashpower it can get.

It is as good as other algorithms as they are not brokenable for the time being using existing technology.

X11 can be implemented with ASCII as well. The reason that there is no ASCII for X11 is that this market is too small to be profitable for ASCII manufacturers.

Power saving just means the GPU is not optimised enough to make full use of the processors.
