Jennifers boss doesn't necessarily share Jennifers views on cryptocurrency.

Just this morning, David Cohen, the Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial
Intelligence at the U.S. Department of the Treasury – and my boss
– delivered remarks on virtual
currency at an event in New York City, where he made a compelling case for transparency and
regulation in the virtual currency space.

However, if levels of adoption increase more
significantly, and if it appears that daily financial life can be conducted for long stretches
completely within a virtual currency environment, we may need to consider whether to apply a
more “cash-like” regulation to the virtual currency space.

This guy isn't the county Sheriff and it's people like him that will set the policy not Jennifer Shasky Calvery.

You don't seem to have fully grasped the implications of cryptocurrency on the "regulatory environment".

There are no counterparties in crypto = so no regulation possible. END. OF. STORY.

Sure they can stop retailers from quoting prices in one cryptocurrency over another, but that's regulating retailing not crypto. Also, one you've allowed one in the door thats the thin end of the wedge because as we all know, all cryptos are readily interchangeable once your holdings are on a blockchain of any flavour.

Regulators do not understand this (understandibly). They live in a world where everything works by counterparties - everything you "own" is registered somewhere. But you do not "own" bitcoin so you cannot possibly be regulated based on that ownership. All you have is a bunch of letters that lets you control an address - that isn't ownership in any classic sense because anybody could theoretically control that address.

Put another way, a bitcoin address hasn't got your name on it as would be required to establish ownership. You've got its name on a piece of paper which means that theoretically, 7.046 Billion other people could have as well with equivalent entitlement as fas as the term "ownership" goes.

Another this regarding your quote:

Quote
if it appears that daily financial life can be conducted for long stretches
completely within a virtual currency environment, we may need to consider whether to apply a
more “cash-like” regulation to the virtual currency space.

Cash can only be regulated because it ultimately ends up in a bank - hence counterparties again. At least, it needs to end up in a bank for it to be of much use for anything other than buying chewing gum or paying off hitmen.

Cryptocurrencies on the other hand do not end up in a bank and, again, lack any counterparty involvement, so no regulation possible. The idea that opaque blockchains and transparent blockchains are any different in this respect doesn't get you very far because both are as much of a threat to the mainstream banking system.

You know what the threat is ? It's nothing to do with "dark currencies". It's the fact that crypto is unlevered base money whereas fiat is highly levered credit money.

Thats the real reason authorities are petrified, not laundering. Economics not criminality.

Great post.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

im new to this thread. does anyone know if there is significance to the dump on june 20th?

I think it was related to the MN fork issue.

Won't happen again, since Evan and the team implemented the "spork", a soft hard fork, that can be turned on/off at will to have the time to prepare it perfectly on main net.

i just want to know, if they dumped and left, or dumped and re-accumulated for eg. its quite alot of volume for the price to push back through

Probably dumped when it was high hearing the news, then bought back when it was low after the panic. Check the volume during the "main pump", it just means there was lots of action.

Because not many people can keep up with the huge number of posts per day, it might be a good idea to recap:

Recent Darkcoin developments:

Improved Darksend, which anonymizes all your coins in the wallet before they are used
  • when sending them, they don't have to go through mixing process anymore, which means instant anonymous transactions (some of the other anon coins need 30 minutes on average to do a transaction)
  • blockchain bloat is greatly reduced which will allow much wider mainstream adoption (some of the other anon coins struggle from severe bloating issues they have to tackle before even dreaming of wider adoption)

Number of masternodes has been on constant rise, the count being 664 at the moment and is expected to keep on rising
  • 15% of the coins are reserved for masternodes making the coin much more scarce
  • hosting a masternode earns you revenue for it, and helps to decentralize and secure the network

Please feel free to bump or add to the list and/or make corrections so we can have the latest situation easily visible at all times.

Evan said "with no upper limit on transaction sizes".
I think "anonymous outputs for instant transactions" has no limit on DRK.

Is this a sign for the opening of the new testnet for RC4 soon?

I love watching the testing for Darkcoin - almost as exciting as the actual release!

Earn your own DRK coins by mining at the multipool. Not only that, you can earn DRK using your old ASIC hardware on SHA256 and SCRYPT coins!

DarkCoin by xpool - DRK Multipool

PROP reward system
DRK Payouts
Scrypt & SHA256 & X11 Algo's
DDoS Protected
High Performance Backend
Simple setup and usage
0% Fees while in BETA
To mine:

How does it work?

xpool offers 3 different sets of coins to mine. SHA256, Scrypt and X11. Each algorithm runs on a shift. Currently there is no set interval as there needs to be enough found and confirmed blocks to make trading worthwhile on the exchanges. We don't want to finish a shift only to find out, the exchanges are going to eat up the payout in fees or limit the withdraw with a large minimum. The confirmed coins are traded throughout the duration of the shift automatically to maximize the profits from exchanging them into DRK. Once enough confirmed blocked are accumulated, the shift is moved into "Trading" status while all the exchanged coins are calculated into DRK and then queued for payment. Once all the coins are confirmed as successfully traded and exchanged, the DRK payments are sent.

As the pool picks up more hashing speed and sufficient DRK can be picked up from the exchanges, the shifts will be set to a schedule and payouts more frequent and less worry about the exchanges. This is a growing phase so the more hash support the better.
If a DRK block is found, there's no exchanging or loss of fees as it can simply be moved into the X11 payout queue.

The advantage of the pool is that you can utilize your older ASIC equipment to earn you the more desired DarkCoin.
Cheers and Happy Hashing!

Donations welcome!
!

SHA256 got 7.9303 DRK and X11 got 15.9875 DRK on our latest shifts.

ZPOOL - the miners multipool! Support We pay 10 FLUX Parallel Assets (PA) directly to block rewards! Get paid more and faster. No PA fee's or waiting around for them, paid instantly on every block found!

He won't ROI till like forever anyways.  Wink

his MN-coins are not written in stone - he can sell them anytime he wants

so he is getting ~ 1 btc each week - for a low EURO-amount for the VPS-server

i setted-up some MNs too - the costline for the VPS-server is o.k. after only 3 days  Grin

Edit: now my masternodes earn cost-free DRKs for 27 days of the 30-days-month - thats really fine Smiley
