I'll use crypto to buy a Fiat

Say to mine 1 BTC it costs a total of $510 and lets also say current value of BTC is $500.  So to mine 1 BTC is COSTS you $10.  So you are mining at a loss of $10 per BTC.

Now you could invest that $10 in saving into buying BTC or you could mine at a loss of $10 per BTC to sell them at a higher price later.

So I was saying it would cost $510 to mine 1 BTC that right now is worth $500.  But say in 1 month it could be $650.  So $140 profit.

It's all speculation of FUTURE value of a coin.  But it CAN MAKE A LOT OF SENSE TO MINE AT A "PRESENT" LOSS!
Okay, so it costs you $510 to mine 1 BTC. Why is the alternative to only invest $10 in buying BTC? The alternative is to invest $510 in buying BTC, as that is what you have saved if you turn your equipment off.

Mining scenario - invest $510 to receive 1 BTC, value increases to $650, $140 profit
Invest via exchange scenario - invest $510 to receive 1.02 BTC, value increases to $663, $153 profit

When you mine you are converting fiat into coins via the cost of electricity, it never makes sense to pay more in electricity than you could get the same coins for from an exchange.

Doh, yea that does more sense Smiley

Although at only $10 difference on a $500 coin it's probably a toss up due to brokerage fees.  But yea I forgot the "true" cost to get that 1 BTC was $510.

BTW, any idea the best place (fee wise) to convert FIAT to BTC or other coins?  As an Example getcoincafe.com charges 6%.  In this case it's still better to mine at a loss then pay brokerage fees. Smiley

I had a pretty good experience with coinbase.com, but the delivery time takes a LOOOOONG time.

That is a risk to our pool, we will try to contact this miner and confirm he is not faking this hashrate with some special method which is already known to us,  if no response from him received , we will have to ban this miner.

Quite easy to check: Nr of blocks found vs hashrate vs global hashrate. No 'marginal' differences, then no problem. if you do 1/3 of the pool it is noticable if you cheat ...

Well, I'm not writing it, so I cant say for sure.. but I was just interviewed Friday by a really cool reporter at a "very large" tech blog about the KWG TW exploits among other things crypto. I was explaining how HVC already has a solution out in the wild as well as some of the other innovations it offers. Pretty sure the article will be released early next week now, and should provide a lot of good exposure Smiley

Probably shouldn't have said anything here though since I have no control over the articles content or release... just got excited.

@Reorder: are you working on next version of CGMiner now? :-) When can we expect it? I hope not somewhen in the middle of night (EU timezone). Last time when I woke up, the 2014-03-27 version was already 6 hours out. :-) Would be good to publish at some more convenient time when EU,US and ASIA are not sleeping so that all miners have more or less the same chances to download it at the same time. (well, if you tell me release time, I will set-up a buzzer.  Grin )

Anybody mining at heavycoinpool.com? My estimated payout has been hovering around 3 for 8 hours... Are there such things as never ending rounds?  Huh Frustrating. 11m/hash - 3 coins in 8 hours. Almost zero invalids and a decent share rate.

i left that pool after only getting 24 coins in 8 hrs at 124 mh/s.

I left after spending a week to get 50 coins with my 15MH/s...

Damn. I'm glad it's not just me... but what's up with that? Small pool size? I've tried just about every pool. Currently at 1GH. Lack of dashboard means I'll have to wait another 24 hours to get a good feel for profitability. :fingerscrossed:  Roll Eyes

With 1GH you can check your balance at the following URL:

I use justcoin.com, they are great and don't charge you anywhere near as much.

Considering it's a project at Github, I'd imagine that those particularly worried about others having a 6-9 hour lead (.. Europe's doing that daylight savings thing tonight, right?) could simply set up a cron job to check the repo and, upon commits, automatically grab it, compile it, run it, and check output to make sure you didn't just compile something that was part of a multi-stage commit / performance is worse).

Done when it's done Smiley I have only 5-7% improvement to this moment, and feel like there is more to crank out of it, but it is all trial and error now.

I think you get some notification from github when a project you have in favourites changes, but I may be wrong.

1GH added new Asia servers. I get much better ping times to it.
Was around 260ms to the US server but now down to 170ms for me.
