It will be easier for a player to get a new club while still playing at a club compared to looking for a new club when he doesn't have a club to play with. But he go to another league? why not, if indeed he still wants to have a career then he should be able to find another club besides in Europe, actually it is not impossible for him to continue playing in the Laliga but of course it will be a little difficult to play at a top club except for a mediocre team who really feel the need for his services.
But wherever he wants to play including in Arab or America or maybe to Turkey and Greece but the salary may not be as big as in Arabia, what he has to have is an offer, the problem is whether there are clubs from these leagues who have made offers for him, but at his age now is not a bad thing to decide to resign and start another career.

Buying a young player for his position (even to have a good reserve) it will be very expensive if we are talking about a qualification comparable to Modric, so extending the contract for a year is beneficial for Real Madrid (I don’t think they will pay him a huge salary for this year) and Modric.
As for the speed, it falls much slower for players of this physique than for relatively "fat" players - a good example is Pepe. He is now 40 years old, but at the World Cup I did not notice that he was slow  

Ronaldo is still probably faster than most players, and yet he is not quick/agile or has the same reflexes anymore and that does change a lot. Modric is still "fast" relative to his position, but will he be quick enough? What about his agility? Or more importantly he is a very smart player, would his body allow him to do what his mind wants to do? All those things are question mark of course.

Plus Real doesn't need to get anyone for his position, they have a team of players at midfield, valverde, jude, tchouameni, camavinga, all could play midfield and this is four players already, usually they have 3, and 2 wingers with 1 striker as well, meaning they have 4 defenders and one goalkeeper totaling 11 players. In the end Modric is a good player, no reason to not keep him, even if they have to pay a lot, he is still a good player to keep, no matter how many young players you have, he is great.

The first mistake was not looking for a striker for options when Benzema couldn't play this season indirectly also made Madrid's condition a little weaker because we know Benzema is one of the players who is always the backbone, especially when dealing with goals because he is the main target but this season, he actually had a lot of problems with his body and it couldn't be denied that it was very annoying, which was unfortunate because Madrid didn't look for striker options in transfers, in fact this backfired for them.
Now Benzema is not there but I still don't see who will replace him as a pedestal whether it will only be given to Joselu and Brahim or maybe someone else who is still not available at the moment.
