You know when the chips should be done.
You know when the chips should get put to board.
You know when the boards should get put into the chassis.
You know when the miners should be tested.
You know who ordered first.
You know how many miners you can produce a day.
You know how to ship the units out.

There is a lot that can go wrong there and that is why there can be uncertainty.

I believe they have revealed that to everyone right?

Where is the inconsistency?

I don't see how it is productive to hound them into changing policy

I'm not hounding them to change their policy. They may never change their policy.

What I am doing is responding to their repeated statements that the miner will ship "on time and on spec" despite the fact that they make no actual commitment to that effect to the customer.

Think of it as a warning to prospective buyers that the structure of the business relationship they are proposing makes their statement not particularly credible.

If they stop repeating the statement, I will stop repeating the warning.

This is a community forum, not a vendor-captive sales marketing channel, so they should expect to have their statements
challenged here, especially when basic logic contradicts what they said. As I said before, if there were really sure they were going to ship on time and on spec, it would cost them nothing to guarantee that in some meaningful way.

That said, it is a self-moderated thread. If they want to (not) address the issue by silencing critics, they have the ability to do that (at least on this thread).

Quote
Can we let the people who are interested in asking questions about the terms and price and other aspects because they want to buy talk? I get you want to push the agenda that buying any miner is foolish.

False. I'm in fact interested in buying miners, and I have bought about two dozen miners of various types in the past six months. I've already said on this thread that I'm considering the SP30 group buy, and I am. The terms of sale are a negative in my evaluation.

It seems pretty obvious to me that they know they could not stand behind the commitment if they made it and therefore don't want to make it. So its a glass half full or half empty situation. Kudos for not making a commitment they know they could not keep, no kudos for not admitting that there is more delivery uncertainty than there is.

Bingo. It's one or the other. They can't have it both ways.

Was not directed at you. My post was in general and that is why I only took the important part that is an important lesson for everyone. YOU MUST ASSUME YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR MONEY BUYING HARDWARE OR BTC. You are being polite and to the point more people need to be like you when discussing this with fabricators. Although these discussions always lead to the dead horse variety as people stop listening to each other. Maybe you can email them and get a more detailed response to your questions. Personally after you question it, you get a response if it is not what you like or expect is fair walk away. That is best advice for anyone here. That again is not directed at you Smooth that is just something for those that are more interested in stirring shit than finding answers. The problem in the miner market is there are NOT ENOUGH SpondooliesTech like companies in this market. Smooth I respect your questions. Don't stop, keep pressing.

I think that Spondoolies-Tech have been - so far, the most transparent we have seen for a long time. They didn't come to market until they had 1st batch ready to go and every little pernickety query has been answered by Guy and his team with respect, tact and intellect. Yes, there are hurdles and obstacles in all aspects of life but we are all responsible for our own decisions. Too many people harping on about 'what if?' and failing to understand how bitcoin works in the long term. I have to say, it irks me to see this; people who just want to have a rig so they can cash-out their BTC for fiat at the rate they can get when they mine it and are continually obsessed by ROI this and ROI that... I ask them to remind me, how many block halvings have we had and where are we in the life of our cryptocurrency?

If people no longer feel like early adopters after only ONE block halving, sorry BTCit-joe, but it may be time to get out of the game and find another trading stock. I've no problem spending $5k on an SP10 and i'll have no problem spending more for the next generation of SP-T rigs, when I can afford it. Sadly i'm missing out on the easter group buy as I can't make the payment deadline but i'll be back for more when I can.

As our friend above says, a lot can go wrong but i'm reiterating the fact...
A lot can go right, also.

I am not adverse to risk Raskul. Spondoolies could be the one fab that does do right by our community.

Like Smooth I am seriously considering some SP30's but I am only going to risk what I can afford to lose. Money that if it goes poof. Goes poof.

Far be it from me to think I am able to advise you on your purchases, I'm just happy to see the hashrate spreading out a bit, and well you all know i'm not a big player, which is fine by me, I like the risk, if i'm holding 4BTC in my wallet and the price crashes, I still look to the future.
for me;

BTC4 does not equal $2k
BTC4 = BTC4

and wherever I can spend it, as opposed to trading it, I will. every time.

Hi everyone,

i'm still waiting for my sp10 to be delivered (still in israel atm Cry) and i was wondering if there is an option to schedule the power consumption ?
in france we have full hour (0.14€/kwh) and empty hour (0.10€/kwh). I would like to schedule full power during 8 hour and "quiet" during 16 hour.
Already implemented ? add it to the todolist ?

Thats a great suggestion. I think Spondoolies can add this to their next FW.

For now, if you're familiar with Linux, you can make a cron job. Its not too hard as all the tools are available in the current FW.

that's an option, but i don't want to manipulate the system since I don't completly understand it. do you have a best practice ?

Good strategy. Look LONG.

Unfortunately we all see the same end game in mining. MASSIVE MINING OPERATIONS... time for the little guys to band together and do the same. Pool Mining is not enough and I dare say a single coin BTC strategy is a waste of resources.

and the policy of selling these sp30's  makes Massive Mining Operations happen.

I   fail to see where selling gear in April to be delivered in August helps the network in anyway.

Helps the seller's pocket no more no less.  They have sp10's they can build them and they are the best gear available today.  yet they ask us to buy for the future. How about they are selling sp10's in bulk to MASSIVE MINING Operations now .  while asking us to buy for the future.

The future is now. Give a decent deal to the little guy sell a lot of sp10's now. At a decent price.  Sp30's don't work for most home style miners like me.

I could squeeze one sp30 in my home.even if I need to use 3 psu's to run it.

many people can't do that. but the miner for the masses (sp10)  they don't sell now.

Ask your self why?

you seem think it's an easy task to run out thousands of rigs per day.. so I challenge you to go do it yourself, and post a thread where we can all question your ethics and morality.

Policy?

That is what is going to happen no matter what. It has happened with BF, ASICMINER and KNC... you think the latest company coming to market shouldn't build more powerful cheaper units that are sold to the public? Or should they simply do what those companies above are doing? You can't lay the blame on a single company. They didn't build the first MMO's nor did they say they would cut the community out and only sell to deep pockets like others have already done. They are giving the community the resources to compete and given their vision as said in this thread I suspect they will continue to do that but the individual is not going to be mining BTC.

Like Solo mining went to Pools hardware has to be collectivized. They are selling the Hammer chips that alone is helpful if we can get DIY fabricators involved as well that spread the network. At this point you might what to think about the network and how it needs to be diversified spread out. How can that be achieved? With cheap SP10's or SP30s and beyond that are CHEAPER per Gh/s? I get you want to protect the masses but right now the war isn't us against Spondoolies. It is everyone against the consolidation of hash power in a few hands.

Where else are you going to buy miners? That is the question I have.

If you are an individual small miner not pooling resources you are OUT of the game already start looking around for a bunch of people to hook up with.

You can't house things like this in your home. You need power you need a facility and they will need engineered systems and cooling.

Don't think it is the company that is doing this it is the technology that is driving this move.

Seriously right you get that these things are getting more juice, hotter and not for home use right?

This is KnC... and you are knocking the SP30 as the evil that causes MMO's wake up dude we are all behind the curve. The only way you stay in this if you want to risk it is with groups of people pooling resources.

Sorry this well offtopic... but people are certainly not seeing the whole picture.

That wouldn't make sense, the SP10 is making 0.1 BTC a day, that's about 35 €.

Far more than your power consumption (30kwh/day), even at 0.14 €, do the math!

Bick no mater how many small guys bound together the pice they get of the pie will be the same.
So individuals can not gain anything from grouping and hooking together.
If you invest let us say 500 bugs in a grou with 1000t you will get proportional ROI based on your investment
You get better price  for the equipment and discount which will be eaten up from group fees that is All
So if you do not have enoug power or you do not want to turn your house into server room buy something small like ants or whatever and you are done. In any case direct btc investment is an option also

Hi.
We will put it in our todo task queue, but not at high priority. What you can do for now is to set that in cron. Note that the time of miner is rather random, and you can not change it's time when it is mining. So do the following:

Set miner time:
1) ssh to your miner
2) spond-manager stop
3) date +%T -s "10:13:13"

In order to start miner in "quiet" mode, "echo 0 > /etc/mg_work_mode; spond-manager start".
In order to start miner in "turbo" mode, "echo 2 > /etc/mg_work_mode; spond-manager start".

Just add cron jobs you want.
Note that the system will forget the time after reboot, and it can reboot if your internet is down for over 5 minutes, so this is not proof solution. We will add timeserver support very soon.
Also note that directory /etc/ is non-volatile, while other directories are volatile.

I believe that we will have something ready within 2 weeks, but can not commit at this point.
