Without a doubt the losers are the fans, if Italy fails to qualify this will be the second time in a row in which this happens, and as you pointed out it is not as if they do not have talent, they demonstrated this at the last Euro, but they are having massive problems wit this format, and if Portugal does not make it then we will miss to watch Ronaldo playing on what was probably going to be his last world cup, and I do not even want to think of the disaster that it would be if both teams did not qualify to the world cup.

I think it is never happened to have the current champion of the EURO not qualified for the following world cup.

The current problem of Italy is the lack of a 1st striker for example in the last game with Switzerland, Immobile, Bellotti, Kean, Insigne were all out for injuries.

I prefer to see the teams that will be able to qualify, challenging the others for the World Cup.. So far, Portugal isn't that team while Italy deserves to be there. Portugal power is concentrated in few players, mainly CR7 while Italy has many stars, unluckily many were injured but it has a huge firepower that will allow it to play finals in Qatar. Honestly seeing Italy out of the tournament will be very sad.

I agree with you. It will be good for small teams. If they have good luck, maybe they can beat the big team and advance to the next round. If two matches were to be played, the big teams would try to perform well in the second match after a poor performance in the first. It would have been more difficult for smaller teams to qualify for the World Cup.

I agree with you. It will be good for small teams. If they have good luck, maybe they can beat the big team and advance to the next round. If two matches were to be played, the big teams would try to perform well in the second match after a poor performance in the first. The Euro 2020 which ended a couple of months ago has given us some insights about teams that may perform well in the world cup next year. Although both Germany and Netherlands got eliminated in the competition, they played some really good football - Germany especially.

On the mentioned Germany elimination I think they got unlucky at the end, or maybe they got under too much pressure for not scoring England before, what has been a tradition for decades (the last time Germany had lost to England in major tournaments was in 1966 - World Cup final). England took the opportunity and scored twice on the final stage of the match (75 min. and 86 min), although the game had been balanced by that moment.
The problem is also that Germany lost golden chances of scoring, even though they reached so close. But I still believe their potential for the next World Cup, and it's important to notice each championship is a unique championship: sometimes teams which play really good at a competition, joins the next one with a completely new performance, which might be inferior.

I would also like to see Cristiano Ronaldo in the world cup. But to be honest, they don't have much of a chance against Italy. They easily beat Turkey in the first match. But in the final, it will most likely be Italy rivals. I think Italy will go to the world cup I think .

I think in turkey vs Portugal, I will say Portugal wins the match 100%. But since the last loss against the Netherlands, they have improved their game and looked better.
