Excellent start by the Srilankan team, they have already wiped out half of the English side before the end of 20th over. I have never seen such a batting collapse from England. The current run rate is below 5, it might go below 4. If they lose a couple of wickets more than England might not even get 200 runs against Srilanka.

Last season's World Cup winner England is not doing well in the World Cup this time as they have won only one match in four matches and are in the eighth position of the points table. If England lose to Sri Lanka in this important match today, they will miss out from the second round of this World Cup. Today's match can never be expected for England from their current condition because at this moment England has lost 6 wickets and collected 122 runs. Although they have enough overs in hand, they will not be able to complete the match today as they do not have enough wickets. So I think it is not sure if England can score 200 runs today. I initially predicted in favor of England but now seeing the condition of England I can say for sure that England will be unimaginably defeated by Sri Lanka today.

Now we can officially come to the conclusion that England is out of this World Cup. Another big upset in the tournament, never imagined that England would be batting in this manner. They might not be able to get 160 runs on the scoreboard. 9 wickets already gone, the batting order collapsed like a house of cards. One of the worst performance by the England cricket team in white ball cricket. This win will boost Srilankan teams net run rate on the points table

England will be lower than Bangladesh if they lose today's match. How can a favorite team come into the World Cup and perform so badly?

There are two possibilities for England's poor performance. The first is that their batters are out of form and the second is over-hyped as the best team to play white ball cricket. Other than that I do not think anything can prove such a poor performance by England. At the moment Srilankan's batting is not looking good they lost their first wicket within the power play. Although the target is so small that if they play slowly they would still win if they are not bothered about the net run rate. I am sure the Srilankan batter would have a tough time while batting on a pitch that tends to get slower as the game progresses.

England is 77/4, and they are in all sorts of trouble. So far so good from the Sri Lankan bowling lineup. They are bowling at tight length after the early onslaught by Malan and Bairstow. It would look bad and at times a waste of resources but in the long run it's good for the overall health of cricket and arguably the only way.

No one will be interested if we had such kind of tournament, that is why the qualifiers are in place and only certain number of teams are selected to play at the big arena. If associate nations wants to be there then they have to make a statement that they can be a capable team by qualifying to this stage.

I feel AFG will be the next big team in cricket based on their performances in very short period of time and also they got good set of batting and bowling talents at young age group so in the next 4 years they will be sure enough for big competitions.

If no one will be interested then everyone should stop dreaming about 16-18-24 team WC.

As I said the less interest from the viewers force the entity to keep system like this. I do want to see the growth of many countries in the cricket while imagine India is one of the country cricket is the considered to be a festival even there we can see no support for neutral teams like what we witness in Eng vs NZ opening match the stadium looks completely empty.


It's time for the England to book their tickets and starts to make the necessary actions to their team and its really pathetic situation for the defending champions.

Even before today's match, it was pretty sure that the side that lose will be out of contention for the semi-final stage. And now it is clear that England is going to lose and they don't have any chance of qualifying for the SF stage. Bangladesh and Netherlands are already out of the semi-final stage and England becomes the third team to achieve that honor. Sri Lanka will get a huge boost to the run rate, in case they can win with 25-30 overs to spare. But that won't be enough for them, to overtake Australia in the points table.

Really surprising and disappointing performance by england,

They were less then 1.3 odds pre match and managed to score only 156 runs

Sri lanka were never in danger,except the first 6 overs maybe when it was  45-0.. Insane  to think england lost TEN wickets and scored only 111 runs.. wow

This game is so weird as in England batters got destroyed on a spin track, which means the England batters were not prepared. England skipped or was not available to test their batters on the pitch like the one they were playing today. Ultimately it is now evident that these guys were so much overconfident that they lost today against a weak team. I personally do not consider Srilanka a big team that can sneak into the semifinals. Another example is how much the English team thought of themselves as the best team to play a white ball game. They forgot that this tournament is not a 20-over cricket but a 50 overs cricket.

Even before today's match started, it was pretty clear that the side that lost would be out of contention for the semi-finals. What a win!
Sri Lanka won by 8 wickets. Points table could have been even better if they hadn't lost to Pakistan. Yet Sri Lanka has a better chance of staying in the competition for the semifinals.

Sri Lanka played exceptionally well against the defending champions, England. This loss is England's fourth in this tournament, which places them in 9th position.
England is now out of the World Cup. Quite a surprise!!!!

Even if they win their next match (vs Afghanistan) and Australia lose theirs (vs New Zealand), Australia may remain at the top. At this point, Australia has a NRR of +1.142 (received a considerable boost after their massive win against Netherlands). On the other hand, Sri Lanka is having a NRR of -0.205 (this is after their big win against England today). I am not saying that it is impossible for Sri Lanka to overtake Australia, but that is going to take some more time. And that alone may not give them a ticket to the semi-finals.
