The problem with no backup pool is... miners don't come back so pricing would bounce around like crazy.

Miners would come back right away when work is being requested. At least with cgminer.
Unfortunately not all miners are smart enough to use cgminer and configure backup pools in it. However, making the offline pool optional would be a bonus for those that have a good cgminer config set up already.

Frankly, I think Nefario's claim is a joke at best with nothing to back it up other than a coincidence.

While on the topic though, would it be possible to have the option to LOCK one's GPUMAX payout address in their control panel so that it can not be changed ?

My BTCGuild account has permanent payout addresses and people can login to it all they want, as the worst they can do is mine for me and make me more BTC...LOL

Until someone changes the backup pool and then sets your clients to mine offline only.  Then you're mining for them.

Personally, I would like the option to not have a backup pool on GPUMax.  I prefer to handle my backup pools locally, I would rather that GPUMax just stop sending work when it isn't leased.  That would let the "Lock Payout Address" option be secure also.

The problem with no backup pool is... miners don't come back so pricing would bounce around like crazy.

I'm set up for "Rick Astley" failover.  Never gone give you up...  Never gonna give, never gonna give... Give you up...

+1. I think by default though it should ask you to set up an alternate pool.

Seems like we're still out of public work.

Any ideas when it usually comes back online?

I tried this pool, but something happened and I didn't get any Bitcoins from it.
I would ask them before trying again.

Public Work Woohoo!

Shares are really cheap right now, ouch.

0.00004367/share

0.00004367 * .9 = 0.00003930

So, let me get this straight,  you would rather have work 2 hours a day at 4300, then  20 hours at 3900 ?

No, I would rather have work 24 hours a day at 0.000043.  But I'm not the one driving the price down.  And since I get about 0.000035 at my backup pool, I don't see any point in going lower than 0.00004 minimum.

I call that "the free market," but I wouldn't expect the crypto-anarchist/libertarian poseur camp to agree.

The free market also says, if I have better info, or a better product, etc...  I don't have to share it and can make more money.

If you're pissed because the price on GPUMax went so low, stop setting your rate so low.
