i am running my own hopper. it is a separate system altogether. i don't point gpumax to my hopper, the rig just can't handle it, i realized that long time ago.
there are several techniques where bithopper can't do, only gpumax and perfect timing can.

this is the point of having an additional hashing-provider service, to earn more $?
i stop using service that's unreliable and costs me $ in the long run.

hoppers still hopping, but booster needs keep on boosting, as precise as possible. not 6 hours later.

i'm not stupid enough to point gpumax purchases to pps pools.

Maybe quit being a dick and trying to exploit the bitcoin network to the detriment of honest miners.  Or at least, quit bitching about how gpumax doesn't help you be an asshat.  Also, happy bleepday fuckwad: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=66757.0

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

exploit the bitcoin network?
how?
hopping? hah, that's laughable. that's barely "exploiting".
what i'm doing is not hopping, btw.

profit is my concern. like vladimir said long time ago, "you should only loyal to your wallet.dat, not any pools"
like i said, i'm paying for a service. if i can't get what i need and expected from a service, i stop using it. what's so hard to understand?

if it's a free service, i won't bitch and complain.

OK.. this is just a selective quote since this is the only point I'd like to address:

trying to exploit the bitcoin network to the detriment of honest miners.

Back when the majority of pools were all proportional, I was in the camp of thinking hoppers were pond-scum.

Now, however, the majority of pools are either non-prop or at least offer non-prop alternatives.  Also, the hopping "exploit" is now widely known and there is plenty of information out there about it.  I feel it is very easy for miners to avoid being "exploited" ..  If a miner does not have sufficient motivation to have researched what he is doing to realize this.. well caveat emptor applies.

I no longer have any moral qualms about leasing my miners out to hoppers.

This.
To the above poster; rather than blaming hoppers for doing the mathematically sensible thing, you should direct your anger towards pool ops that (often I think deliberately) allow their members to be exploited, by not implementing a hop proof payout scheme. I say deliberate,  because they get their fees from hoppers and non stop miners alike.

TL;DR, You cant prevent hopping, you can avoid hoppable pools.

i'd rather use the term "boosting", because i don't actually hop or mine at that pool.

and yes, that's what i'm doing right now. my last purchase was 2 hours ago, and it's still not activated.
i'm not offended though.

one has to improvise in order to gain more profit than others. i'm not your run-of-the-mill miner that runs their rig and just hope for the best, while on limited resource.
imagine if you're double or triple stacking, and the purchase didn't go thru until couple of hours later, combined with no pause function, that's plenty of bitcoins lost.

however, if you manage to time it proper and nicely, and having a decent luck, you can flip 24 btc to ~60 btc in a matter of hours.
when timing's amiss, there goes your investment.

I do understand Starlightbreaker. The way it is now the miners and GPUMAX profit. The buyers are not really in a comfortable position. But this service can not run without them. You can hope that some fool is buying your shares but would anyone mining for GPUMAX actually buy shares the way things are at the moment ? I wouldn't !

Since i'm a craftsman i don't know much about how things work in the background. But there are some things i would change if i would run such a service.

- option to limit (choose?) the hashrate, the service sends to the buyer. No more pool flood !
- the buyer can choose how much he want's to pay for one share and sellers are free to set the price they want.
- buyer can time the shares + gets an option to pause and resume the purchased shares.

Not that i want to complain ! I earn good money here and i like the idea of this service. It has lots of potential.

Starlight, you may be able to gain more precision by setting the pool you're pointing hashes to an invalid pool. It would at least give you the possibility to pause your purchase.

tried that, didn't really work.

if i can make it work, i won't bitch and moan here.

it was fine at the beginning, where purchases were activated at the least within 10 minutes after confirmation. but now, it's within hours.
nuh uh, not acceptable. i don't really mind no pause button, but hours late?

nope.

that's why i say, might as well as change the name to gpumaxcasino for the buyers.

*edit
if i'm being mean, i'll pause my purchase by pointing to invalid pools, and let them bleed rejects until i want to continue using it.

....actually, that sounds like a good idea.
hmm.

hmm.

The system auto pauses purchases to invalid pools and you have to wait through the queue again for it to try again.

If you don't like how the system works don't use it.  Trying to bypass how the system works is just going to get your account banned.

I would like to see Pirate setup a PRIVATE PROP Pool for GPUMAX Miners ONLY, that ONLY GPUMAX accounts (through the management interface) can be pointed to......so no outside interference.

This would make purchases USEFUL.....

When no LEASE work is available, it can act as an OFFLINE pool for those who choose.

When purchases are made, people can point tons of power at it and play the 'lottery' Wink

Either way, it's a win/win for GPUMAX.

<EDIT>
Or maybe a deal can be worked out with a known Pool OP that would only allow GPUMAX Proxy connections to a PROP pool ? ...so NO outside hopping possible ?

You only asked 40 minutes ago, maybe it's something that needs to be discussed instead of a snap decision made.
Or, maybe it is a stupid question.

Yes, very stupid.   No, its just something we're asked about all the time.  We've had a few pool ops want to setup a private pool for GPUMAX users.  We just haven't decided on or felt a need for it yet.
