I was reading the 'Satoshi Roundtable V Recap' by Jameson Lopp. Interesting read.

One part got me thinking about how it applies to Monero. It is generally said that running your own Monero node gives you the best privacy.
But don't you actually give away more information broadcasting a transaction from an own node, over using a remote node?

Quote
The solution to most of these issues is to run a full node so that all of your wallet queries occur locally and can’t be surveilled, but on the flip side if you’re broadcasting transactions from your full node it creates a privacy leak for network observers that watch transactions propagate through the network. Thankfully Dandelion should be coming to Bitcoin Core before long, thus obscuring the node from which a broadcast transaction has originated.

I think no, because when you use a remote node you are allowing the remote daemon to select the other ring members for your tx, so a malicious remote node could determine your real tx output, and also link that to your IP if you weren't using a VPN or something. I think your best bet for privacy is to use your own daemon and broadcast the tx over Tor. (Disclaimer: I'm not a privacy geek and haven't actually done any of these things except use a remote node.)

Are ring members chosen by the daemon, not the wallet?

How can you select other dummy tx outputs to use in ring signature if you don't have a copy of the blockchain containing other tx outputs? I'm fairly certain yes, the wallet requests ring members and the daemon returns them.

Zcash had been doing lot of funny things like renaming to electric coin company etc this is not a good sign for the future the coin . Crypto has to be anonymous like BTC, ETH and should never represent a company. Monero perhaps will gain #1 spot for anonymity.

That's true. I don't understand how a "decentralised network" can have a CEO.

Monero perhaps will gain #1 spot for anonymity.

It already has that.

I dont know about cryptonightR but i hope it can prevent asic/fpga for longer time at least.
Lets see if monero can deal with them or not. They have big competition with grin beam zcash and etc ...
I like to see monero on the top 10 market cap because its really unique in terms of privacy.

The question is how can a decentralized network of this kind come into existence without a CEO in the beginning? Someone has to start it although the role of that someone should be in line with what we envision as a "decentralized" network. You need governance as well.

Bitcoin never had a CEO, and neither did Monero.

Is this a bought account? You can't possible have been here since June 03, 2014 and not know the answer to that.

Anyone here know if wallets can be affected by the upcoming hardfork on March 9th?

As in errors or quit working.

Edit - also wondering how anonymous Monero is coming from a Coinomi wallet?

I don't blame you for being concerned about the fork.
But it's not the wallet software that's at risk.
If something bad happens at the fork, it won't be a glitch with your wallet software.
If something bad happens at the fork, it could be much worse than that.  It could be a 51% attack, with double spends.
Your concern about the wallet not working is misplaced.  If that's all you're worried about, you can put your mind at rest.
By the way, linux CLI 14.0.0 daemon and wallet work great.  I'm using it now.
