My mining rig is a cardboard box (but it's that GOOD quality cardboard).

I cut vents in the sides, and sliced out a viewing window on top with a piece of plexi-glass taped over it (to avoid an Schrodinger's cat mysteries with the stuff inside).  Then I cut a crude hole on top and I have an "O2Cool" fan sitting on top of that.  You can buy these fans at Wal-Mart in the States for about $6.00.  They are USB powered, but come with a USB power adapter (only 500ma, so not good for much else).  It moves a decent amount of air for what I paid for it.  Keeps things pretty cool in there.

And inside of the box?  Just a said little $15 USB hub, that will be maxed out on power if I ever add a fourth block erupter.

I do some dodgy stuff, but that just looks a fire hazard.

running non-stop they will last you maybe 3-4 months..  I've gone through 2.. on my last one..

Currently trying out one of those silverstone usb fans... not bad and is actually rated at 50000 lifetime hours

I'm sorry if I am stating the obvious but the setup is probably a joke or an attempt to parody people that share pictures of their setup.

Have one of them, but they are hard to get. Better and cheaper to build your own by cutting off the plug of an old usb cable or phone charger and connect the ends to a new, strong pc case fan

Just look at the airflow path, most of it just bypasses the block eruptors. He needs to mount them on some sort of tower, in the throat of the fan air intake. I'd have used meccano in my time, but that's a bit uncool these days (great stuff though, used to have it in our labs at uni). Perhaps that kinetix stuff, or even lego (comes with cool figurines too, can set up a nice montage to display the BE's in their mining glory).

From touching the heatsink the one directly on top of the ASIC is completely cool, so is the end of the heatspreader.

Would anyone be interested in a set of the ASIC sink, a little VRM sink with thermal tape applied and a pre cut piece of 3M thermal tape to attach the other side of the stick to any heatsink.

Considering the heat from the ASIC on the BE basically all goes in to the PCB, you wasted your time and effort putting a heat sink on top of the chip.  It's like mounting your heat sink to the back of your motherboard in your PC.

I was looking through the thread for ideas for mounting  ASICMINER blades but didn't see anything other than the guy with the production Rackmount case.   What are the "blade people" using to mount and cool overclocked blades?

For all those saying BE+ cardboard is bad.. you do know that cardboard does not combustion till 450f+? if your BE;s get that hot you have bigger things to worry about.

Same problem in the UK. We got started with metrication in the 1970s, then got all hung up half way thorough, leaving us with a right dog's dinner of a mess. Petrol in litres, milk and beer in pints, but pre-packed milk in litres, spirits/wine in millilitres, roads in miles and yards, but heights in feet and metres (stops the continentals crashing into bridges), meat and veg in kilos (but also priced up in pounds), standard pack sizes in kilos, or (soft-metricated) pounds at 908g ... I could go on.

And I may have been wrong about Ray Bradbury. seems to be some disagreement about the auto-ignition temperature of paper according to that popular online encyclopedia (see what I mean).

Anyway OT, perhaps we should stop there?

I have taken some cost effective precautions to avoid a fire.  I filled a milk jug with used cooking oil, and it rests just on top of the box.  If the heat causes the box to ignite, it will melt the bottom of the platic jug and extinguish the flames in a non-conductive coating of fry oil.

Because this cooking oil is used, it provides a few benefits.  1) It is nice for the environment.  2) It's free materials.  3) Even though your mining rig is on fire, you can't deny how much it smells like french fries (and that's a great smell).

The only problem I can see here is the false positive that a smoke alarm would play, so I have disabled that to prevent any unnecessary panic.

Those look like various IBM redundant PSU. At least 1460 watts, I'd say. FYI you can get 2000 watt bladecenter PSU on ebay pretty cheap! ($60 or less).
