... It is too late for GUI wallets to make any impact anymore. ...

XMR is 2 years old, so it is unbelievable that it still has any value; when are the bagholders going to grasp the futility of the project, going against such odds after such a long time ??

It not only has value, it has more value as measured by market cap than at almost any time in its history (treating the recent peak and current as a single observation since they are both higher than previous peaks). I'm not aware of any other 2+ year old cryptocurrency to which that statement applies, except Bitcoin somewhat.

Agreed.

As a long time/term bagholder, one thing that I have learned - If you don't believe in the coin long-term, or in the tech and devs behind it, it's just not for you. I love it to be honest. I love how such small swings when you own so many translate into large amounts of USD. Point being - If you don't let your emotions control you and it's not your lifes savings or something crazy, it's just numbers on a screen, IMO. Cheesy

Edit: fixed quotations based on smooth's fixes, thanks. Smiley

Quote
I wanted to use F1 racing (2016 season) as an analogy, but I think some fans of certain drivers will be none too pleased about it.

Well, count me in as an audience. Would love to read this analogy Wink

Let's maintain harmony in this thread guys.
Let me add some humour to this thread.

(F1 2016 season, mainly)

BTC is like Kimi Raikonnen - has been around for a long time, consistent and steady, but the peak may be behind him

LTC is like Jenson Button - everyone knows who he is, but quite possibly past his prime, is his long-time girlfriend the reason?

XMR is like Max Verstappen - up-and-coming child-prodigy driver, the most promising since Lewis Hamilton, but will he ever get a better car?

ETH is like Nico Rosberg - he is at the top simply because he was in the right place in the right car at the right time (ahem)

Other altcoins is like Sebastien Vettel - the masses scurry to him when he wins, but when he fails to make the podium, he blames everyone except himself

okok I show myself the door.

Why is volume so low?

Its going back to normal levels imo, before the recent pump. ALso I expect price to slide down slowly.

I agree.
In autumn there will be the best prices to acquire coins, last year the bottom prices were 0.001.

Perhaps certain people should back up their so-called claims with proper arguments. It would significantly improve the quality of this thread. Alternatively, just stay away.

Speculation wise, the daily MACD has flipped to green and volume is declining, which is probably a sign that the sellers are getting exhausted during this correction which seems to be going into consolidation. It's ironic some people think it will head back immediately to 100k after the substantial drop. Last year's drop from 180k to 100k was mainly caused by a few factors that aren't (yet) present today. Besides, we still have strong resistance in the 165-180k which has to be broken first.

EDIT: Some visualization, as you can see we broke out of the short/medium-term downtrend/correction:

Volume may be low but Monero volume is in second place on Polo behind ETH.

Edit:  The point has been made before that Monero has been at or near the top in volume on Polo since it was introduced there almost 2 years ago.  Over the course of 2 years many coins have been introduced and Polo has grown.

I am probably a buyer at 0.001. However, if it will not go back there I am also happy because I have Moneros. I simply have some btc to invest in cheap XMR but I cannot afford to buy them at the current spot, too poor for that.

If you buy more at 0.001 or below, could it be assimilated to the sunk-cost effect ? "in for a penny - in for a pound"

Any price point sub 1000 usd/xmr is a sunk-cost in my calculations.
Monero is extremely tiny niche at current size of community (the size of community can be seen as a reflection of the marketcap of XMR). Therefore investing in a coin that has this small community of bagholders is pretty much sunk-cost. That being said, Monero has probably one of the largest communities among the alts.

Its been discussed elsewhere, but I'm not sure there's a cogent document about it. Basically, the 1 minute blocktime was put into place by the original developer, thankful for today, when he cloned bytecoin to create bitmonero. If you don't know the rest of the story, the current core team then forked bitmonero to create the chain we know and love today as Monero. If you dive into the historical posts, you can see the disagreement with 1 min vs 2 minute blocktimes, and the post-hoc rationale provided by TFT was that 1 minute blocktimes would increase distribution in the initial phase (more block finders would be solo miners etc), though its probably he wanted 1 minute blocks because short blocks were all the rage in 2014. And it was also put forward that the chain would switch to 2 minute blocks once the primary distribution was over, in order to prevent re-orgs (when presumably the blocks would be bigger later in the chain's life

btc up, most alts down.

I have no answer to your question.

I have sold 0 Monero.  For now the btc I earn playing poker is for buying Monero.  Therefore I have no answer as to when the btc I currently have earmarked will be traded for Monero.

No I won't lose it, that's impossible.

Yeah, I saw that. XMR is now at ~88 cents, which isn't that much of a drop.
