looks like a good call to me @koryu.
market seems to agree for now.  to go all the way up again would be crazy  Grin

at least there wont be a fight for 145k this time..this war is over it seems

the war? I think pump finished from last week or so. So xmr, is back to regular trading volumes.

I expect there will be more pumps coming soon for the previously #1 digital currency on Poloniex in terms of volume.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Possibile. But I dont see how xmr could reach volumes of eth. Even dash has been continuously traded with higher volume than xmr. I think spot #1 of xmr on Polo is lost, and cant see how it could go back to even being in first 3 spots anytime soon.

These are two possible scenarios where if the scenario is sustained XMR can reach or exceed ETH in volume on Poloniex.

1) Bullish for XMR. XMR rises in value at a faster rate then ETH
2) Bearish for XMR. ETH falls in value at a faster rate than XMR

There are of course other possibilities such as XMR rising in value and ETH falling in value. This is actually quite possible if the current development trends, https://www.coingecko.com/en, for both XMR (81 Developer) and ETH (74 Developer) continue for a sustained period of time.

Edit: Dash has an ongoing funding source for development over at least the medium term that Ethereum does not have. The question of how ongoing Ethereum development will be funded once the IPO money runs out has not been answered.

ETH is gonna crash hard the only question is when. Either ignore the P&D on Monero or play them either way it will be here for the long haul.

I think XMR backers as a whole are very patient, as long as they see some progress. The last month has been nice even if the price is not reflecting that. Smiley

But it cant be forever like this. Sooner or later developers will just go to work on something else, if they see that xmr value and volume trading is stagnant, indicating that their efforts are not recognized by more ppl. The same goes for merchants and miners. Merchants wont use xmr, if no one is using it, and miners wont mine it if they cant cover cost of running xmr mining operations. Less miners will lead to lower security of monero network, etc.

Hey I am new on the board, but I am observing the forum as also the alt coins since about 4 months and have done a lot of research. Monero is one of mine favorite two coins beside ETH. I think there is a fresh wind since a month or two happening in this community, faster development, more awareness for a qualitative marketing and the steps needed to bring XMR to the average Joe with the GUI wallet. In my opinion XMR is right now one of the most undervalued coins out there and on the right path.

This is a fair comparison, because both have independent codebases. However, for Bitcoin clones the development number is skewed because downstream merges (Bitcoin -> alt) are taken into account as well.

The development activity in Monero continues unabated https://www.coingecko.com/en while the price stagnates. Given the amount of development that has been funded but not completed, starting with the GUI, https://forum.getmonero.org/8/funding-required we have to see how long this discrepancy between development and price can continue.

I don't know if coingecko is tracking it effectively but the community on reddit is also doing great, with the two successful MAAM events and new users becoming involved regularly.

The price is not not only stagnate, but going down now. I guess, many xmr holders are dropping it for now, to jump onto the eth train.

The price is not not only stagnate, but going down now. I guess, many xmr holders are dropping it for now, to jump onto the eth train.

It is more like a correction from the 0.001677 XBT high which tested a very long term downward exponential trend line going all the way back to the May 2014 0.01111 XBT all time high. The area to watch on the upside is 0.00145 and on the downside there are the lows 0.00091 XBT - 0.00097 XBT.  If the 0.001677 XBT high is taken out on good volume I would not be surprised if there is a significant upward move in XMR/XBT, since that would confirm a breach of the long term downward exponential trend line.

As for Ethereum I would not touch it this point since I do not like the long term fundamentals, especially with respect to development. People are jumping onto Ethereum because they do not like what they see with Bitcoin and also to jump onto a purely speculative train. These are the wrong reasons to buy Ethereum particularly since Ethereum is not a replacement for Bitcoin but designed to do something else entirely.

particularly since Ethereum is not a replacement for Bitcoin but designed to do something else entirely.

I agree about what it is designed to do, but that doesn't necessarily correspond with what it will do. I see ETH replacing BTC in a broad sense as possible. It would represent a massive shift in the direction of the technology and economics but such shifts are not impossible.

Alternately you could view the events as independent, since you see ETH and BTC as being distinct technologies by design (and I don't disagree):

1. ETH and BTC both do well
2. ETH does well, BTC fails
3. BTC does well, ETH does not
4. ETH and BTC both fail

I also don't disagree about the fundamentals being poor, but a sufficient vote of confidence in the platform from investors could motivate improvements to the fundamentals. With a strong emphasis on could.

An increase in price should help with development funding for Ethereum depending on how much ETH the Ethereum Foundation has left, and improve the fundamentals. What could be more interesting is what can happen when it corrects back down from whatever high ETH/XBT reaches. Will the Ethereum Foundation overspend? They never were the best money managers with the IPO funds in dealing with XBT/CHF price fluctuations. It also reminds me of what happened to the Bitcoin Foundation in the aftermath of the 2013 XBT/USD highs.

I told you all to dump XMR and buy ETH couple of weeks back.. ETH can and will replace everything XMR does in a couple of lines of code! (btw. my ETH stash is worth a real fortune now, thanks monero!!).
I'm now cost-averaging, every XMR I mine  I dump for ETH, whatever the price. Do the same, thank me later.

I call BS. If you want to sell XMR for the highest value and gain ETH at the lowest value, you would be saying the complete opposite--you are either stupid or a liar. I'm guessing a little of both.
