Why are people talking about digibyte here it's just a shitcoin compared to monero. Between the two i'd pick monero any day as it has proven to be the top privacy coin in the market right now, even ranked higher than dash which is a grand achievement

That’s my fault... sorry, my bad.

I’d just mentioned it in passing cuz I’d thought it was actually maybe one of the decent older bitcoin clones having been launched early on and before everything went so stoopid, with all the ICO’s and shit last year... but as noted I guess I never really “did the math” on it, either.  So... I dunno. Sorry. LOL

DigiByte IS “fast” though, and their iPhone wallet app is pretty slick. So, yeah, no: shitcoin? Sure. But it might still do something. WhoDaFuk knows?  Fuckin DASH is clearly a shitcoin too... LOL.

Anyway as I said IMHO nothin fer sure about anything anymore till CryptoWinter passes, & prolly back to basics now is the only safe move. And “basics” is just Bitcoin and MONERO.

Nothing wrong with making cake offf of shitcoins to support your real habit XMR. Smiley

“Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing.”
Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

^  *cough* ...  *cough*

I think it's better not to say anything.  Lol.  But yeah, I agree.  I'm not the one to judge one or the other a 'sh*t coin'.  I leave that one to the people who know what they're talking about.  But still, I don't listen to them cos the 'scammiest of scams' seem to get all the action.  Smiley

Why Bitcoin Matters for Freedom  http://time.com/5486673/bitcoin-venezuela-authoritarian/

It has funny end.

Less than 1% of the world’s population — no more than 40 million people — have ever used Bitcoin. But, according to the Human Rights Foundation, more than 50% of the world’s population lives under an authoritarian regime. If we invest the time and resources to develop user-friendly wallets, more exchanges, and better educational materials for Bitcoin, it has the potential to make a real difference for the 4 billion people who can’t trust their rulers or who can’t access the banking system. For them, Bitcoin can be a way out.

Truth is that all this 4 billions cant use Bitcoin. The other 4 billions can, these can only use Monero.

Not even a minuscule fraction of the 4 billion can use Bitcoin which is why I sold out of Bitcoin into Monero over 3 years ago. By the way Lighting Network will not solve this issue. Just read the LN paper https://lightning.network/lightning-network-paper.pdf page 55 where they talk about 133 MB blocks under very optimistic assumptions just to open and close LN channels.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

133 mb blocks for 7 billion people all running their own nodes opening only 2 CHANNELS PER YEAR with zero on-chain transactions. Those are some wild assumptions! Shocked

My raspberry Pi lightning node has been syncing for 30 days and is only at 85%. We need smaller blocks not larger Roll Eyes The bitcoin maximalists have some serious cognitive dissonance to resolve. The good news for them is their chain is likely to be superseded before they have to resolve these fundamentally incompatible design goals.

Who actually thinks you can have 4 billion people using the base layer of XMR at this point?

I think Monero (XMR) is very interesting.

i don't think that was said... i think the point was that once monero gets second layer solutions, the first layer can scale to meet whatever demand is placed upon it by the second layer due to the adaptive blocksize.

... And also due to it's inherent fungible state.  The fact that 1 XMR = 1 XMR seems to be so overlooked by people all the time, and not a lot of people see the benefit of that.  If you are off-chain and are transacting "privately" then why go back on chain and have the chance of getting back tainted coins, and therefore might run into the issue of you not being able to cash out at your favourite exchange site?

I think so. The second lay similar to Lighting could scale the network further.

Happy New Year! And may 2019 be easier on the cold wallets than 2018. I'm tired of sleeping on the couch! Wink
