I want to elaborate a bit on the comment on Monero I made on October 3, 2014. At that time, Monero traded at 0.00315 BTC and then dropped by -71.11% to 0.00091 BTC. XMR is still down -44.44% from October 3.

This is what I said back then:
Quote
"...There is no big enough reason that XMR outperforms these other assets yet. XMR would need much more awareness and traction to make it outperform."

This is still true in general.  Currently, Monero is #17 in terms of market capitalization.

It was likely around #12 or #13 when you wrote that though. That was the typical position (peak at #10 or #11 I think) for most of the lifetime of Monero until will into the post-August slump (even for much of the slump this approximate rank was maintained).

You make a good point about awareness certainly. Even at #12 that means there are 10 alts above it (plus BTC of course), and most non-specialists don't really have the time or desire to analyze 10 alternatives.

yes, this is exactly the issue. It is still possible to overtake, but it requires disruptive and challenging innovation and marketing.
A great book covering those strategies is this one - just not sure if it exists in English: Commitment Marketing. Markentreue aus Begeisterung Gebundene Ausgabe – 2002

We don't have the memes and the cars yet, just the trolls and paid-Fudsters spamming our threads. Not sure it's laughable enough yet. You might have to come back later.

On a more on-topic note, that stability all of a sudden is quite unexpected and sweet. Maybe I sold a bit too early after all.

Did you buy high, sell low? Idk if you did or not but it always surprises me when people use this tactic. With the advent of instant online buy/sells people panic much more easily than when brokers were required in the past I'd imagine.

Nah didn't panic. I did expect a correction after such sharp rise thought. Can still buy back and be in the green. So far so good.  Smiley

Yep. I'll prob be buying this evening. Hoping for. 0014

Edit if any early adopters want to sell me XMR at 0.0010-0.0011 I will love you forever. I only need about 300-700 right now.  They will be held, not dumped. PM me if you want to remain secretive.

I'm not sure correction is the right word for an underpriced coin.

Maybe when XMR hits 0.0065 we can say "XMR has now corrected."

Until then, business as usual.

It depends what you mean by early. All of the OTC trading was below that, and that went on for almost a month.

I am also planning on a long hold, 3 year minimum. Talking with my friends right now - we have a loose investment group, trying to eventually buy an island one day.

Whats a decent amount of monero to hold? I'm thinking of buying around 4000 XMR soon and then another $1k worth every month.

That depends entirely on your own personal finances.

Total supply is a bit less than BTC.

I would urge everyone to limit their holdings.  Excessive concentration of ownership will damage the upside.  At some point, if you own too much, it will be worth less than if you owned a lesser amount.  Set a modest target.  Once it is reached, invest your time and money into building the technology, the economy, and public awareness, rather than in owning more of the supply.  It will pay you back better.

I have placed a strict limit on my holdings (the exact amount of which I will keep private) for this reason.  I can't compel you to behave rationally (although I would if I could), but I can urge you to be enlightened in your self-interested behaviour.

This is no doubt true. Do you have any suggestions on some appropriate numbers though?
