You would still need some epic luck.

I think right now if you really wanted to break a block you would need over 1 Exahash to have a really good shot.

Just don't forget every hash has an equal chance of being a block so even with a large rental it's no guarantee you would find a one..

Code:
1 Exahash
Chance per block: 1 in 88
Chance per day: 1 in 1
Time estimate: 15 hours

Just don't throw money at a rental that you may need in future your basically gambling with any funds you throw at solo mining.

Hypothetically you have 0.1btc of income you want to spend/gamble/ call it whatever you want what would you do aside from invest it would you look at going at a altcoin grin/etc/dash/EXT.....

what would be the best use or should you just go to Bitstar and gamble it HAHAHA

I don't think anyone will jump in with you to be honest your a new account with limited history.

I know some here do group rentals every so often I think the coordinator was philipma1957 you could ask about but the risk is a user rent's or points hashing power to your account you find a block then don't pay the member this is why most people just go it alone or wait  for a trusted member to organised a group mine for a shot at the glory.

We did it years ago 5 btc was kicked in and we hit two blocks of 25 coins each.

so 5 btc became 50 btc

I rented 1 ph for 25 hours.  the diff was 67,000,000,000 vs 12,900,000,000,000

so it is now 200x harder to do then it was back then.

I got the rental at very close to real cost.   that meant a 5/25 chance for use to hit a block.

and a 25/625 chance to hit two blocks.

ten people were in and we all paid .5 btc to get 5 btc.

i think btc was only 200-250 a coin.

To do this now we would need 2.5 btc. or .25btc a piece. 10 players and if we hit we would one block get 1.2 btc with a tip to ck.

I am not sure I want to handle 7200usd x 2.5 = 18000usd input

and 7200 x 12.5 = 90000 output

If we got  lucky and hit one i would be holding 90k
If we got really lucky and hir two I would be holding 180k

Not so sure I want to have much responsibility.

Dear all,
I'm new here. BUT, meanwhile past two weeks, my miners history shows that they have found 17 Blocks(!) in another pool. But I get only 0.02BTC or slightly more.
I decide to try my chance here as solo miner. I have not a lot of PH per second. But I think it would be better if I could find even 1 block by myself instead of a long term waiting for a group mining and a neglectable income.

I wish best for all and a good XMAS prize for myself.

I realize I don't have any rep. on this forum but I have been GPU and ASIC mining for a few years and switched to solo over a year ago. I currently have ~235TH pointed at the solo pool and, although it's meaningless, my best share up to this point is 2,302,303,126,450 which unfortunately is too low by a factor of 5-6. With the difficulty being so high, the odds are stacked terribly against me that I will ever hit a block. I'd like to buy in with 0.25 or even 0.5 BTC if you move forward with this, assuming you're OK with that.

Okay no coin don't send a thing.

a list lets try .125 coins  would be a total of 10x .125 = 1.25

Our chance would be most likely  1.25/12.5    = .10%  or 1 in 10  at best  that would assume  we get rentals close to

0.195  more likely we would get a rental of 25ph for 2 days 12 hours

giving us about a 9% shot or a 1 in 11 chance.

So put your name down to see if   we can raise the 1.25 btc

If we hit  I would tip ck .25 btc

I would split the rest 10 ways.

1. philipma1957   0.125 btc

lets see if we have 10 fools.

don't send coin

don't send coin

put your name and that you would put up 0.125 btc

no obligations.  I still may decide to not run this.

this is just to see if there are 10 fools left on bitcointalk. Grin

If I run it  I will use a trezor address.

once 1.25 btc is collected I will move coin to nicehash  since it is more then 8000 usd.

I will send 4000  rent and mine it then send 4000 rent and mine it.

this protects us from a nice hash hack.

I have a ledger with a legacy account that generates legacy addresses so  the address will be a new legacy address.

@ ck  your pool can handle that correct?

And I will run it in 2020 not 2019.

please don't send coin until we get the 10 fools.

That sounds great. Fool number 1 is in. Thank you for being willing to do this. If allowed to do so, I'd be willing to send 0.25 BTC for 2 spots if we have gaps to fill. I also have a couple of mining friends that may want to buy in through me if that's allowed? If so, I will check with them and put them down as well under my name if they agree and you approve.

For the nicehash rental, I just rented 1PH for a bit under a standard order. Hash rate fluctuated all over the place and I paid 0.022 BTC/PH/day. I have placed a fixed order through nicehash in the past and pointed it to ckpool solo and had issues that led to the order eventually being cancelled automatically. I don't understand why that happened but has this been resolved or would we be forced to submit a standard order?

For the nicehash rental, I just rented 1PH for a bit under a standard order. Hash rate fluctuated all over the place and I paid 0.022 BTC/PH/day. I have placed a fixed order through nicehash in the past and pointed it to ckpool solo and had issues that led to the order eventually being cancelled automatically. I don't understand why that happened but has this been resolved or would we be forced to submit a standard order?

Would one please tell me, When a miner have a number other than 0 in its Foundblocks, that means really the miner found a block?
I have 220 TH but my miners show that they found 17 block within 14 days! But this blocks belong to pool and my share was neglectable.

No just plain and simple no.

220th  will not hit 17 blocks of btc in 14 days.

It is more likely that you could step off a cliff and fly.

some math  1 th earns around 0.0000193 btc a day

so    0.0000193 x 220 x 14 = 0.059444 btc in 14 days

or 0.059444/12.5  to 1 block in 14 days  that is about 0.0048 to hit 1 block   so

0.0048 x 0.0048 x 0.0048 = 0.00000011 to hit 3 blocks in 14 days  and you think you hit 17

so 0.00000011 x 0.00000011 x 0.00000011 x 0.00000011 =

0.000000000000000000000000000014641  that you hit 12 blocks in 14 days

or

0.00000011 x 0.0048 x 0.0048 = 0.000000000002534

then 0.000000000002534 x 0.000000000000000000000000000014641 =  stupid hard to do

I think the number is

 0.0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 3710029

or 3.7100294e-40

far more likely   you just  were mining some other pool due to pool switching.

It is more likely to pick the single exact grain of sand on 2 trillion planet earths then to have that number of blocks in btc be hit by your 220th

the guesstimate for grains of sand on planet earth is 7.5 x 10  18th power

while you are talking  3.7100294e- 40th power here
