Today I updated the miners I have at home, which saw 11 S3s consigned to a cold state.

Made me think ... stick a plug back on one and put it on here.

440ghs isn't a lot, but a lottery this is, as they say 'you've got to be in it to win it'.

i guess there is one feature everyone would want:
your "best share" added to stats to see how close you have been finding a block
Yes Please! That would greatly help those of us whose miners do not report the best share Smiley

or those that rent miners and have no way of knowing how close they came.

Just curious.. Reading about the chance of finding the solving hash of a block and understanding - I hope - how random that is, what would be the use?

I don't think there is any real use other than a little more information to know what is possible with your hardware. It would be nice to have some persistent information as it is lost on each miner reboot.

Since this is a pool for solo miners, I would assume that you would have better luck here then if you truly solo mined. Is this true? My thought was because the work is split between all the workers instead of all of use doing the same work.

Your luck is the same on a solo pool or on your solo bitcoind.

Nobody is doing the same work either way.

Solo pools usually have better connections to good super nodes so that your block, if you find one, has a better chance of being broadcasted on the network first.  When you solomine it is more likely your block will loose an orphan race.

No.  The only benefit of this pool is that it is well connected to other nodes and you can check your hashrate online.

How can I check my hashrate online?

EDIT: just found out how to do it.

I was trying to throw some hash toward ckpool using westhash, but when i run the pool verificator it gives me a (Error: Extranonce1 size and extranonce2 size greater than 8.) Is there any way to fix this? Thanks for any help.

  use 3334 not 3333.

  to be more clear

use  stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3334   not  stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333

use  stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3334   not  stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333

  IIRC
No, it makes no difference. All ports point to the same pool instance now. The different length nonces were for AM tubes previously but now the pool is compatible with them. No idea what rented hashers need... but it might work if you set up a ckproxy that points to the solo pool and point the rented hashes at the ckproxy. Too many layers of expectation from the rental service...

Unfortunately that's nonsense. There is no such thing as a "standard extranonce size". That is determined by the stratum server sending the data to the miner which should abide by the stratum protocol. The limitation is at their end that they only support one size.

How about you save power because you just run a miner and don't run a server for the blockchain as a very important benefit?

I point a sp20 here. No muss no fuss.  I would need to run a server 24/7/365 with a decent net connection certainly costs more for me if I solo mine at home using a  PC to run the blockchain.

@ Ck what type of server can be used?  What does it cost to build?  I know that running a weak pc won't cut it.  Not sure how good the physical  server needs to be.

moved form here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=790323.msg9998530#msg9998530

I'm trying to run solo via the http://solo.ckpool.org/ but however just a tiny fraction of shares are accepted. Is it possible to increase prevetively the minimum difficultiy form my (miner) side? I see the +diff option was named above. However I can't fid any relevant information regarding this option. How can  I use it with my USER(i.e. BTC address) parameter?

You're posting in the support thread for the ckpool software. The solo ckpool thread is here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=763510.620

However the quick answer is with solo mining it doesn't matter how many shares you get accepted since you don't get paid for shares at all and you only get a reward if you solve a block. Don't worry about what diff it's using since it's just an indirect marker of how hard you're mining.

(there is mistake above, I mean ... _decrease_ prevetively the minimum difficultiy....)

Probably my explanation was not enough correct.  I'm using quite weak Avalon Nano. And Rejections looks like ... Rejected .... (Above target). All of them has relatively low difficulty (<10), but some shares are Accepted (very rare) and the difficulty of accepted shares is significantly higher (>1k). I just suspect that I need to inform pool that I have weak hardware and need less difficult blocks or more time for calculation (in the same way as it done in classical pools with worker minimum difficulty). Or my understanding of mechanism is wrong?

Another problem that Avalon Nano decreasing the speed in minutes to 0, as a workaround I need to restart it with the bash script periodically. So if the pool have any mechanism for difficulties adjustment, it doesn't work in my case as well Sad

As pointed many times it does not matter. Just do not pay attention tou your stats. You need to submit just one share to solve a block. You are not get paid for number of shares. You get paid just for the one which solves a block. And you get all....You need to find one first Wink

odds tells that someone is about to find block in next 7 days..

really would like to know if is it possible to add that users best share in stats
it would make pool( and any other pools using same source) more reliable since then pool would be caught if stealing hashpower to another non public walllet.
not telling that anyone is doing it but it is possible

in my mind: possible scam(or extreme bad luck)= http://bitsolo.net
last block 17th August 2014 - 17:00 , hash power sometimes more than here

Yesterday I rented 7TH for 3 hours just to see if could win the lottery, obviously I wasn't lucky, but it only cost about 0.012 BTC.

Nope Bitsolo is a valid site. If you look at the hashrate it is relatively low compared to here (sometimes has a max of 90Th where this is always in the 100's -- current rate 54th which isnt really much).. the block finder in august found 5blocks and he chucked 250Th at the site.
